WBJEE Eligibility Criteria 2017

 

Nationality Criteria

 

Applicants of WBJEE 2017 must be citizens of India.

 

Age Criteria

  • The minimum age of aspirants applying for WBJEE 2017 need to be 17 years on December 31, 2017. There is no upper age limit for admissions to all B.Tech programmes (except B.Tech in Marine Engineering). Candidates born on or after January 1, 2001, are not eligible to apply for WBJEE 2017.

  • For B.Tech Programme in Marine Engineering, the candidates must be minimum 17 years of age as on December 31, 2017, while the maximum age limit is 25 years as on December 31, 2017.

  • Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying exam, class XII in 2017 are also eligible to apply for WBJEE 2017. 

Domicile Criteria

  • Aspirants of WBJEE 2017 should be residents of West Bengal for 10 years consecutively, as on December 31, 2016.

Or

  • Candidates’ parents must be permanent residents of West Bengal having a permanent residential address in the state.

WBJEE 2017 Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech Programmes 

  •  The candidates belonging to general category must have secured minimum 45% aggregate marks in class XII or equivalent exam, while, SC/ST/PwD applicants must have secured a minimum aggregate marks as 40% in class XII or equivalent exam.

  •  They must have passed class XII or equivalent exam with Physics and Mathematics along with any one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Computer Science/Computer Application as compulsory subjects.

  •  The candidates must have scored minimum aggregate marks of 30% in English in class XII or equivalent exam.

  • They also need to have obtained individual pass marks (in both theory and practical wherever applicable) in all the three subjects in regular class mode.

Institute specific eligibility criteria

 

Eligibility Criteria for University of Calcutta

 

a) Candidates aspiring for admissions to all B.Tech courses except ‘Jute & Fibre Technology’ at University of Calcutta, need to have passed class XII or equivalent exam with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects.

b) They should have obtained at least 60% (55% for reserve category students) aggregate marks with the three subject combination mentioned above.

c) Also, they need to score individual pass marks (both in theory & practical where ever applicable) in each of the subjects and with at least 30% marks in English.

 

Eligibility for Jute & Fibre Technology Course

 

a) For admissions to Jute & Fibre Technology Course at University of Calcutta need to have s passed class XII or equivalent exam with Physics and Mathematics along with any

one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology as compulsory subjects with at least

45% (40% for reserve category students) aggregate marks.

b) Also, they need to score individual pass marks (both in theory & practical where ever applicable) in each of the subjects and with at least 30% marks in English.

 

Eligibility Criteria for Jadavpur University (Faculty of Engineering & Technology)

 

a) For admissions to all B.Tech programmes at Jadavpur University (Faculty of Engineering & Technology), the aspirants need to have passed ‘10+2’ or equivalent exam with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects with at least 60% (45% for reserve category students) aggregate marks.

b) They should also have obtained individual pass marks (both in theory & practical where ever applicable) in each of the subjects and with at least 30 % marks in English.

 

Eligibility Criteria for West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences B. Tech (Dairy Technology) course

 

a) For admissions in B. Tech (Dairy Technology) course at West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences, the aspirants must have passed in class XII with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with individual pass marks (in both theory and practical wherever applicable) in each of these subjects in regular class mode.

b) They should have secured at least 50% (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English.

 

Eligibility Criteria for Neotia University

 

a) For admission to all B. Tech courses except Marine Engineering at Neotia University, the applicants should have passed class XII or equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

b) They must have obtained 60% aggregate marks in these subjects.

 

B. Tech in Marine Engineering (Neotia University)

 

a) For admission to all B. Tech in Marine Engineering at Neotia University, the candidates should have passed class XII or equivalent test with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with at least 60% aggregate marks in these subjects.

b) They are also required to have secured at least 50% marks in English.

 

Course specific eligibility criteria for WBJEE 2017

 

As per the norms and standards of the Director General of Shipping, Government of India, candidates aspiring for admissions to degree course in Marine Engineering must have passed Higher Secondary (10+2) exam of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or equivalent exam from a recognized Council/Board in regular class mode with:

a) 60% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

b) Individual pass marks (both in theory and practical where ever applicable) in each

of the said subjects;

c) Minimum of 50% marks in English as subject in either in ‘10’ standard or in class XII

 

Requirements in terms of Residential/Domicile Criteria

 

a) Though there is no such domicile/residential eligibility requirement for appearing in WBJEE 2017, however, the State (West Bengal) Residential/Domicile requirement is applicable for admission to any Government Engineering/Technology/Pharmacy colleges of the state as well as for admission to any reserved category of seats in respect of any course in any of the enlisted Universities/University Departments as well as in any Engineering/Technology/Pharmacy colleges of the state. The domicile/residential requirement is also applicable for any seat under the TFW (Tuition Fee Waiver) Scheme.

b) The candidate need to download the required proforma and keep the certificate ready to be produced during counselling, admission etc.

 

Criteria to be treated as domicile of West Bengal and applicable proforma of certificate

Only those candidates will be treated as domicile of West Bengal who are either,

a) Residing in the state continuously for at least last 10 years as on December 31, 2016

OR

b) Whose parent(s) is/are permanent resident(s) of West Bengal having permanent address within the state.

 

In case of a), the candidates need to obtain the domicile certificate in performa ‘a1’ or proforma ‘a2’.

In case of b, the certificate needs to be obtained in proforma ‘b’.

 

Note: These Proforma - ‘a1’ and ‘b’ need to get certified by government officials as mentioned below:

 

Proforma ‘a2’ is to be certified by the head of the institution wherefrom the candidate has passed or appeared 10+2 exam.

 

Competent authority to issue domicile certificate

 

Proforma ‘a1’ or ‘b’ must be signed and certified by any of the following competent authorities:

 

a) District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Deputy Magistrate, Deputy Collector, Sub – Divisional Officer, Block Development Officer.

b) Superintendent of Police, Additional Superintendent of Police, Sub Divisional Police Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police,

c) Commissioner, Additional Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner of Police Commissionerate.

d) Judicial Magistrate of any rank or position in the concerned district or Metropolitan locality or Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta or Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.

e) Corporation Area - Commissioner, Additional Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner.

f) Assistant Secretary or above in the Secretariat to the Government of West Bengal (including GTA) or Central Government.

g) Deputy Director or above in the Directorate to the Government of West Bengal or Central Government.

 

Important:

Every official certifying the Domicile status of the candidate or his/her parents must provide his/her full name, designation, place of position with address, landline/mobile number. He/she should also provide his/her identity card number if available.
