The JEE Mains 2025 examination is divided into two sessions: Session 1 (January session) and Session 2 (April session). The January session was held from January 22 to January 30, 2025. It followed a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format for both Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech and Paper 2 was for B.Arch and B.Planning.
The JEE Mains paper checked the candidates’ knowledge and application of concepts in three major subjects:
The JEE Main 2025 paper was moderately tough in comparison to the 2024 papers. In all three subjects, Mathematics was the most difficult, then Physics, and Chemistry was the easiest. The paper consisted of more questions from Class 12 compared to Class 11. A large number of theory-related questions were asked in all subjects, and some assertion and reason-type questions were also there.
Physics: There was a question out of syllabus related to potentiometers. 2-3 questions from the topic of current electricity, electrostatic flux, one question on gravitation, and one from radioactive decay were included in the paper. There was a huge emphasis on Modern Physics with 4-5 questions from that topic.

Mathematics : It was quite tough, with questions based on different topics. There were single questions on each ofA.P and G.P, along with another A.P question from the common term concept. There were dominant presence questions of definite integration, vectors (midpoint along the line of intersection), and calculus with three questions on calculus. Further, set, relation, and function had one to two questions, and one quite difficult question intermingled integration and matrices. Subjects such as Circles, 3D, and 2D geometry carried more weightage than others.
Chemistry: It was comparatively easier than Physics and Mathematics. It had two questions from chemical bonding, two from atomic structure, and two from the concept of a mole. Other questions were on biomolecules, d & f block elements, coordination compounds, and solutions.

There were three types of questions included in the question paper:
Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs): These were option based questions.
Numerical Value-based Questions: These questions have a numerical value as the answer. The candidate needs to calculate that.
Assertion and Reason Questions: There were given two statements: an assertion and a reason. Candidates needed to tell whether both statements are correct and if the reason correctly explains the assertion.
Balanced Subject-wise Distribution: The question paper provided a balanced division of questions including Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. No subject felt observed was difficult or lengthy, making it mandatory for dtudents to manage their time effectively.
Moderate Difficulty Level: While the paper was moderately difficult, candidates needed to have great understanding of basic concepts. The paper wasn’t created to be tricky but instead it has tested students’ problem-solving abilities.
Time Management: Candidates who are great with their time management skills performed well in the exam. As all three sections had an equal number of questions and weightage, it was essential for candidates to give sufficient time to every section.
