However, the sheets can only be used for making rough calculations and in no other way these sheets must be utilized. It is suggested that candidates should write their name and roll number on the rough sheets before starting the examination. All rough sheets after the examination have to be handed over to the invigilators. The lack of cooperation may also result in the disqualification of the candidate, in case he or she does not return the sheets. Adherence to rough sheets helps in time management and minimises the occurrence of mistakes when solving questions. This is very important when it comes to a highly competitive exam such as the JEE Main 2025. For more details on how many sheets are given in JEE Main 2025, candidates can refer to the article given below.
In JEE Main 2025, the candidates will be issued a small booklet or diary only for the rough working as compared to 5-6 loose issued in earlier attempts. It is also not sure whether the booklet will have a certain number of pages or the diary, but for counting the no. of pages for calculation and rough work this can also be used.
Exact Number of Sheets: Generally, rough paper is provided to students in the range of 5-6 sheets during the JEE Mains examination which seems to be enough for most of the candidates to solve mathematical problems.
Changes Over Time: In JEE Main 2025, candidates are allowed to use 6 unintended sheets for problem-solving. However, a change is expected in 2025. For rough working, instead of several sheets, candidates will be given a small booklet/ diary of a small size. This new format has been acknowledged but more specifics are still yet to be revealed.
All calculations and writing work must be done only on the rough sheets provided at the test center in the examination room/hall. Upon completion of the test, candidates must hand over the rough sheets to the invigilator on duty in the room/hall.
Regarding the number of rough sheets for JEE Main 2025: As mentioned above, in 2025, instead of allowing candidates to write rough work on different papers, a small booklet or diary will be given to the candidates. The issue remains unclear as to how many pages or sheets the booklet should contain.
Rough sheets are not checked in the JEE Mains exam. They are provided solely for candidates to perform calculations during the exam and serve no other purpose. But it is a requirement that these rough sheets are surrendered after any exam is over. Submitting them becomes mandatory or else your answer sheet shall not be evaluated.
Organize your rough sheets by section or question: Tear individual rough sheets to individual sections for each question. This will enable you to keep your work systematic and enable you to refer to specific work done at any time.
Focus on clarity, not neatness: Do not bother about the beauty and elegance of your handwriting. The aim is to write in a manner that when you glance through your notes, you can understand what it says in the first instance.
Use abbreviations and symbols: Save time by using shortcuts.
Highlight important calculations for easy reference: If there are any key numbers, formulas, or results, they should be circled or underlined. This will make it easy to search for the files when needed or used to make working relations between different departments easier.
Leave space for additional notes: Do not get in the habit of writing up to the margins of your rough sheet. Make sure to leave room below each task or each step to make additional comments, or to revise as needed in the future.
