Mode of preparation JEE Main form 2026 - NTA requires aspirants to enter their mode of preparation while filling out the JEE Main 2026 application form. This section helps NTA understand how the aspirants have prepared for the JEE Main 2026 exam. The options available for candidates to choose from in the JEE Main 2026 application form include Regular, Private, self-study, and Correspondence. Details regarding the JEE Main 2026 mode of preparation can be found in this article. The last date for session 1 JEE Main 2026 registration is November 27, 2025. The JEE Main 2026 correction form will be available from December 1 to 2, 2025, for session 1.
NTA has expanded the number of JEE Main 2026 exam cities from 284 to 323. The agency said that exam dates, shifts, and slots are assigned through a random computer-based system. The increase in exam cities is intended to ensure wider accessibility.
The JEE Main session 1 will be conducted from January 21 to 30, 2026. The mode of preparation in the JEE Main exam is a compulsory field. The option selected by the candidate in the JEE Main 2026 exam will help the authority create a statistical analysis of the mode of preparation. However, it does not affect the JEE Main 2026 eligibility or the result of the candidate in any way.
The mode of preparation during the JEE Main 2026 registration is a field that indicates what form of study the candidates are opting for. NTA will use this information to build a statistical database. This has to be filled in by the candidate compulsorily, or else the application will not progress further. However, candidates do not need to worry as this has no bearing on the eligibility or result. NTA is expected to just use this information to study preparation trends and evaluate the influence of different modes of learning on JEE performance.
NTA gives various options for candidates to choose from in the JEE Main 2026 mode of preparation. The available options include
Mode of Preparation | Description |
Self Study | Candidates must select this field if they are preparing for the JEE Main 2026 exam on their own. The student has not taken the help of any coaching or tuition classes. This includes learning through textbooks, online study materials, YouTube lectures, and test series. |
Individual Tuition | This option indicates that the candidate is taking private coaching from a teacher or tutor at home or online. This mode provides personalised attention and focused teaching for specific subjects or concepts, which the candidate might be weak in. |
Online Coaching | This option indicates that the candidate is enrolled in an online learning platform or coaching program. The candidate has prepared using digital learning, live classes, and recorded sessions from home. |
Tutorial Classes in School | Candidates who take coaching from their schools through special tutorials or extra coaching sessions for JEE Main, along with the regular academic curriculum, can choose this option. |
Correspondence Courses | In case candidates are enrolled in a postal or distance learning program where study materials, assignments, and mock tests are sent by post or email, this option can be chosen. |
Others | Candidates can select this option if their mode of study does not exactly fit into any of the above fields. For example, a hybrid mode combining self-study and part-time coaching, group study with friends, or learning through open online resources. The mode of study might have to be mentioned in detail. |
