For admission to NITs through JEE Main 2026, candidates must secure a minimum of 75% in their JEE Main exam. Additionally, they must have passed their XII board exam with at least 65%. It's important to note that the required JEE Main marks for NIT admission vary each year, influenced by factors like the overall JEE Main cutoff and the individual cutoff for each NIT. Each NIT determines its specific cutoff based on the ranks achieved in the JEE Main exam.
DASA
Lateral Entry
State-level Quota
Other possible Routes
The DASA allows admission into the top NIT’s bypassing the JEE Main exam. Only the category of candidates belonging to the NRI quota, Persons of Indian origin, and Overseas Citizens of India will be considered eligible under this admission criterion. Such candidates must have a SAT scorecard, Class 11 & 12 marksheet, a passport, proof of residence, and other supporting documents to complete the admission process. They must wait for the seat allocation and attend the counselling process to be considered for admission into NITs.
The candidates holding a diploma and who want to get admission into top NIT institutions across the country can pursue B.Tech directly from the second year. The admission process is undertaken by conducting its own entrance test of each NIT or any other national-level entrance exams. The merit and eligibility will be based on the marks obtained in the diploma or the respective entrance test.
As there are different NIT institutions across the country, each of them will have a home state vacancy of about 10 in number. Only those candidates belonging to the particular state where the institute is located will be eligible for the home state quota admission by giving the JEE Mains exam. Eligible candidates will need to keep all the documents and details ready before filling out the application form. Yet it has higher competition as there are few seats under this quota for admission into NIT without JEE Main 2026.
