“Poor communication can either delay or tank a project or research work in the high-stakes aerospace field. It can also break careers. That’s why being a technical powerhouse in aerospace isn’t enough. These days, communication skills, research aptitude, leadership and collaboration hold equal sway, as human-centred skills and transferable skills are not an option in today’s world; they are a necessity.
A study from MDPI says that problem-solving and critical thinking are the top skills for PhD hires from 75% aerospace employers. Only 15% of job success comes from technical skills and knowledge, and hard skills and soft skills are responsible for 85% of job success. These are the findings of a joint research by Harvard University, the Carnegie Foundation and Stanford Research Centre.
