The JoSAA Counselling 2026 process will start on June 2. The authority will release the complete JoSAA 2026 important dates on the official website, josaa.nic.in. Candidates who wish to gain admission to top colleges based on JEE Main or JEE Advanced merit must apply on time. The process will start with JoSAA 2026 counselling registration and choice filling. Followed by seat allotment, seat acceptance, document verification and fee payment. Based on last year's data, the authority is expected to conduct 6 rounds of JoSAA 2026.

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority will conduct the JoSAA counselling to allot seats in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. The Joint Admission Board (JAB) formulates the policies for seat allocation in IITs, while the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. JoSAA is the counselling authority that consists of representatives from JAB and CSAB and conducts the counselling for admission.
Those who clear the JEE Main and/or JEE Advanced will be eligible to participate in JoSAA counselling. Candidates have to register and fill in their choices online to participate in the counselling
Step 1- Registration for the JoSAA counselling: Students will be required to register online to participate in the JoSAA 2026 counselling. The registration process includes filling out the online registration form by providing the JEE Main 2026 registration number and password. Students can also modify their password and contact details at this stage.
Step 2- JoSAA Choice Filling and Locking of Choices: After completing the registration, students will have to log in and fill in their choices of colleges in order of their preferences. Filling of choices has to be done within the stipulated time interval to be considered for JoSAA counselling 2026. Students will be provided a time period of ten days to fill in and lock their choices.
Step 3- Mock Seat Allotment: The mock seat allotment is conducted to help students understand which colleges they might get into based on their choices. Students will also be able to modify their filled choices based on the JoSAA mock seat allotment. Students must note that they will not be allowed to modify the choices after the locking of choices and after the completion of the last date of choice filling and locking.
Step 4- JoSAA Seat Allotment Result: The authority declared the JoSAA seat allotment result for each counselling round separately on the official website. Students will have to log in using their application number and password to check the seat allotment status of JoSAA counselling 2026. Students will have the option of either accepting the allotted seats or not willing to participate in the next round, or accepting with a willingness to participate in the next round of counselling.
Step 5- Payment of Seat Acceptance Fees and Download of Provisional Seat Allotment Letter: Students who will be allotted a seat will have to download their seat allotment letter. Candidates will be required to log in using their application number and password to download their seat allotment letter. After downloading the allotment letter of JoSAA 2026 counselling, students will have to pay Rs.30,000 as seat acceptance fees ( Rs15,000 for reserved category). JoSAA counselling fees can be paid in online mode or through e-challan.
Step 6- Reporting to the Reporting Centres: Candidates will have to visit the reporting centres for document verification. Candidates will have to carry all their original documents along with two sets of Xerox copies. The officials in these reporting centres will verify the original documents and will submit the Xerox copies. Students will be issued the acknowledgement letter post-document verification. Candidates must note that it is compulsory to report at the reporting centres for document verification within the dates specified in the allotment letter failing which the admission will be cancelled. The complete list of all documents required while visiting the reporting centres is given below.
Step 7- Confirmation of Admission: Students will finally have to report to the allotted institute for the confirmation of admission. The last date for reporting to the allotted institute will be mentioned in the seat allotment letter. Students will have to report to the allotted institute within the specified dates, failing which their admission will be cancelled.

The authority will release the instructions for the PwD candidates regarding the physical verification and JoSAA 2026 counselling dates. PwD candidates will be allowed a longer time duration, along with the choice for selection of the institute where they would like to report for physical verifications of their PwD status.
