The JoSAA 2026 dual reporting simply means that shortlisted candidates have to report each time there is a change in the seat allotment criteria. It is applicable in the following cases.
Candidates who choose the “float” option after the first round of JoSAA seat allotment 2026 and are allotted a different category institute in the second round.
Since the JoSAA 2026 reporting centres for IIITs and NIT+ institutes are different, dual reporting may happen if the candidate is allotted to one category in the first round and the other category in the next round of JoSAA counselling 2026.
If the candidate fails to report for the next seat allocation, he/she will lose out on both of the offered seats through JoSAA 2026.
If a candidate reports in the previous round for an allotted seat, he/she will again have to do so to accept the allotted seat in the next JoSAA round.
Candidates who get allotted to IIT or NIT institutes in the second round will have to report to their respective reporting centres of JoSAA 2026.
Candidates can withdraw their seats before the final round of allotment. However, they must note that after the withdrawal of seats, they will not be allowed to participate in the further rounds of JoSAA counselling 2026. The seat acceptance fee will be refunded to such candidates after deducting the processing fee of Rs. 1000. The seats cannot be withdrawn after the final round of seat allotment.
