JoSAA Reporting Centres 2018: To complete the document verification process and accept an alloted seat, candidates have to report at a JoSAA 2018 reporting centre (RC) in person. Candidates must note that JoSAA reporting centres 2018 are divided into two groups – one set of JoSAA reporting centres is meant for IITs, and the second lot is for NITs/IIITs/CFTIs. So, a candidate who is offered a seat at an IIT will report at a JoSAA reporting centre 2018 of IITs only, and not of NIT+ institutes, and vice versa. Reporting at the wrong JoSAA 2018 reporting centre can lead to forfeiture of the seat. Also, in such a case where a candidate has aleady accepted a seat in, say, an NIT by reporting at a reporting centre for NIT+ institutes, but now has been upgraded to an IIT, the candidate has to report again, but this time at a reporting centre of JoSAA of IITs. If the candidate fails to report, he/she will lose both the seats. JoSAA, acronym for Joint Seat Allocation Authority, allocates seats to participating institutes based on JEE Main and JEE Advanced entrance exams.
JoSAA Reporting Centres 2018 – Key Features
Who need to report at RCs: Only such candidates who have been alloted seats during JoSAA 2018 counselling
Report in person: Or else the seat will be withdrawn.
- Purpose of Reporting at JoSAA Reporting Centres: To get ones documents verified and accept the alloted seat. Failing to report at the reporting centre would lead to forfeiture of seat.
Types of Reporting Centres: JoSAA will have separate reporting centres for IITs and NIT+institutes
- Confirmation of Seat: The reporting centre will confirm a seat only after verifying the original documents and making sure the candidate meets the prescribed eligibility criteria.
Reporting at the wrong Reporting Centre: If a candidate is alloted a seat at an IIT, the candidate has to report at a RC for IIT. Similarly, if the candidate is alloted a seat at IIIT, the candidate must report at a JoSAA reporting centre for IIIT. Reporting at wrong centre will lead to forfeiture of seat.
Don’t want to accept offered seat?
If a candidate doesn’t accept the offered seat by reporting at a JoSAA reporting centre, the candidate will be out of the seat allotment process and will not be allowed to participate in any of the remaining seat allotment rounds. However, such candidates have the option of participating in CSAB Special Round that will be held after JoSAA 2018 round ends. Also, CSAB will be for seat allotment in NITs, IIITs & GFTIs only.
What is Dual Reporting?
Dual reporting comes into play if the candidate opts for “Float” option. For example, if a candidate is initially offered a seat at an IIT, the candidate may be upgraded to an NIT (if it is a preferred choice) in a subsequent round provided there is available seats. In that happens, the candidate has to report again for document verification and seat acceptance by reporting at a JoSAA reporting centre for NITs. If the candidate doesn’t report for the subsequent seat allocation, the candidate will lose both seats.
Dual reporting – Key Points
Even if a candidate has reported earlier to accept a seat offered in a previous round, the candidate has to report again to accept seat alloted in subsequent round
If in a subsequent round, the candidate is alloted a seat in:
IIT: The candidate has to report in person at a reporting centre for IITs only.
NIT+institute: The candidate must report at a JoSAA reporting centre for NIT + institutes
If the candidate doesn’t report for verification and seat acceptance, the candidate will lose both seats and also be barred from participating in any subsequent seat allocation rounds.
Procedure to withdraw a seat:
If a candidate wishes to withdraw a seat that he/she has accepted earlier, it has to be done before the last round of seat allotment. This means, if there are seven rounds, a seat can be withdrawn till the sixth round.
Candidates who withdraw their seats will no longer be considered for seat allotment in remaining rounds. Also, such candidates will be refunded the seat acceptance fee after deducting the processing charge of Rs. 1000.
After the last round of seat allotment, seats cannot be withdrawn.
Seat Acceptance Fee:
To accept alloted seat, the candidate has to pay seat acceptance fee as mentioned in table below:
