Q. What is the Eligibility Criteria to apply for JEE Main 2018?

 

Ans: The following JEE Main 2018 eligibility criteria has to be met by the General and OBC candidates to apply for the examination:

  • Date of Birth should be on or after October 01, 1993. For SC/ST candidates, the date of birth should be on or after October 01, 1988

  • Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination (QE) - Candidates must have passed their Class 12th Exam or equivalent in 2016 or 2017. Those appearing for their Class 12th Exam or equivalent in 2018 are eligible.

  • Number of subjects in the Qualifying Examination (QE)- Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12th/qualifying examination. They must have studied Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/ Technical Vocational subject in addition to two other subjects.

  • Number of Attempts - A maximum of 3 attempts are allowed

Q. If I fail in one subject in Class 12, can I still apply for JEE Main 2018?

Ans: If you appeared for Class 12 in 2015 but failed in the subject and are appearing in 2016, you are not eligible. However if you appeared in 2016 and have failed in one subject, you have cleared it in 2017, you are eligible. If you have failed in 2017 and are appearing in 2018, you are eligible to appear for JEE Main 2018.

 

Q. If I appear for improvement in 5 subjects, which scores will be taken into consideration for JEE Main 2018?

Ans: The better of the scores will be taken in to consideration.

 

Q. Can I appear for improvement in one subject in Class XII and apply for JEE?

Ans: Yes you can. However, it is valid if the attempt is for getting the requisite 75% in Class 12. If it is to get into the top 20 percentile, then you have to appear in all five subjects.

 

Q. I am a diploma student. Can I apply for JEE Main 2018?

Ans: Technically you can appear for JEE Main 2018 but only for the purpose of qualifying to appear for JEE Advanced. You cannot take admissions in the NITs, CFTIs or the IIITs as diploma candidates are not eligible for these admissions.

 

Q. I don’t have 75% in my Class XII? Can I appear for JEE Main 2018?

Ans: Yes you can. However the problem may come with admissions. Admissions to NITs, GFTIs and IIITs are open to those candidates who have qualified in JEE Main 2018, have 75% or more in their class 12 or are in the top 20 percentile of their board.

 

Q. What is the eligibility criteria to apply for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs?

Ans: The candidates should have secured atleast 75% marks (65% for SC/ST category) or be in the top 20 percentile in 12th standard (or equivalent) board examination.

 

Q. How will I know my State of Eligibility for JEE Main 2018?

Ans: The state from where the candidate has completed his/her 12th standard qualifying examination will be his/her state of eligibility. For example, if a candidate has qualified his/her 12th standard examination from Haryana then his/her state of eligibility will be Haryana. The state code of eligibility will be provided by JEE Main 2018 officials and the respective code has to be filled by the candidates in the application form.

 

Q. To be eligible under home state quota for NITs, what should my state of eligibility be?

Ans: To be eligible for home state quota for NITs, the state of eligibility of the candidates should be the same as to which state the NIT is located. For e.g., for admission into the home state quota of NIT Warangal, the candidate should have qualified 12th standard examination from Telangana.

 

Q. I have completed class XII and have taken a drop to prepare for JEE Main 2018. Will it affect my admission ?

Ans: No. As long as the 12th standard qualifying year set by the admission authorities is fulfilled, the candidate will be eligible for JEE Main 2018 exam.

 

Q. I am dyslexic. Will I fall under PwD? What certificates should I submit for this?

Ans: Yes. Dyslexic candidates fall under PwD category. The following certificates have to be submitted by the candidates for admissions under this category:

  • Application for obtaining disability certificate by Persons with Disabilities

  • Disability Certificate

  • Category Certificate

Q. If I have a gap after class 10, can I apply for JEE Main 2018?

Ans: Yes. You will be eligible to apply for JEE Main 2018 examination.

 

Q. I have failed in Class 12 and appeared for the exam again. Can I apply for JEE Main 2018?

Ans: Yes. If the candidates satisfy the 12th standard qualifying year and date of birth specified by the authorities, then they will be eligible to apply for JEE Main 2018.

 

Q. If I wish to apply for JEE Main 2018 paper 2, what is the eligibility needed?

Ans: The eligibility is the same as mentioned above for JEE Main 2018 Paper I.

 

Q. Can I apply for both JEE Main 2018 paper 1 & 2?

Ans: Yes. You will be able to apply for both JEE Main 2018 paper 1 & 2.

 

Q. If I am Biology student but I have studied Physics & Chemistry, can I apply for JEE Main 2018?

Ans: No, you will not be able to apply for JEE Main 2018 since Mathematics is a compulsory subject that all candidates should have studied in 12th standard.

Q. What are different reservation categories for admission for All India Quota seats through JEE Main 2018?

Ans: The categories which will be eligible for admissions through reservation for All India Quota seats through JEE Main 2018 are - SC/ST/OBC category candidates, Women candidates, PwD candidates with 40% or more disability and home state candidates.

 

Q. What are different reservation categories for admission for Home State Quota seats in NITs through JEE Main 2018?

Ans: The categories which will be eligible for admissions through reservation for All India Quota seats through JEE Main 2018 are - SC/ST/OBC category candidates, Women candidates, PwD candidates with 40% or more disability and home state candidates. The category wise reservation percentage are:

Scheduled Tribe – 15%

Scheduled Caste – 7.5%

OBC NCL – 27%

PwD – 3%

 

Q. Is there a quota for defence category?

Ans: No, there is no reservation quota for defence category.

 

Q. Is there a sports quota for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs through JEE Main 2018?

Ans: There is no sports quota for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs through JEE Main 2018 scores.

 

Q. What is the reservation for B.Arch courses through JEE Main 2018 paper 2?

Ans: Reservation will be present for SC/ST, OBC NCL and PwD candidates for B.Arch admissions through JEE Main 2018 Paper 2.
