In Conversation with Vansh, BTech IT Student at AKGEC Ghaziabad

Careers360: Tell us about yourself and what made you choose the college as your alma mater?

Vansh: I am currently a third-year B.Tech Information Technology student at Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College. I chose AKGEC mainly because of its reputation for academics and placements in NCR colleges affiliated with AKTU. Another reason was the disciplined academic environment, which I felt would help me stay consistent throughout my engineering journey.

Careers360: How would you describe the overall academic atmosphere on campus?

Vansh: The academic atmosphere on campus is quite serious and structured. Students here are generally focused on academics, placements, coding preparation, and technical growth. Since I am interested in AI and backend development using Java, I often see students around me preparing for coding contests, internships, and technical interviews, which creates a competitive but motivating environment.

Careers360: Do you find the library, labs, and digital resources sufficient for your academic needs?

Vansh: Yes, the academic resources are sufficient for day-to-day learning. One thing I genuinely appreciate is that teachers provide proper notes, important questions, and university paper solutions, which becomes very useful during semester exams. The labs are also helpful, especially for practical subjects and coding-related work.

Careers360: How approachable and supportive are the faculty members outside the classroom?

Vansh: Most faculty members are approachable if students are genuinely interested in learning. While interaction outside class depends on the teacher, many faculty members guide students regarding academics, practicals, and exam preparation whenever needed.

Careers360: Are there opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, research, or innovation?

Vansh: Yes, there are multiple opportunities for technical learning beyond the classroom. Societies like the Blockchain Research Lab, Software Incubator, and GDG organise workshops, coding challenges, and competitions regularly. Even students who are not officially part of societies can participate and learn a lot through these events.

Careers360: What student clubs, committees, or organisations are most active and engaging?

Vansh: Both technical and cultural societies are active on campus. Technical groups like GDG and Blockchain Research Lab attract students interested in development and coding, while cultural societies keep the campus lively through events and performances. Coding competitions are also organised frequently, which helps students improve problem-solving skills.

Careers360: Are events like cultural fests, sports meets, and social activities held regularly at AKGEC? If yes, did you participate, and how was the experience?

Vansh: Yes, events like freshers’ parties, cultural programs, technical competitions, sports activities, and social initiatives are conducted regularly at AKGEC. One experience I particularly remember is the freshers’ party because it was one of the first opportunities to interact openly with seniors and classmates outside academics. I also found the Blood Donation Camp meaningful because it showed the social responsibility aspect of campus life.

Careers360: Do you have a favourite spot on campus? If so, what is it, and why does it stand out to you

Vansh: My favourite place on campus is probably the labs. Since I am interested in backend development and technology in general, I enjoy spending time there during practical sessions. Labs feel more engaging compared to traditional classrooms because that is where concepts become more practical and interactive.

Careers360: How effective is the career services/placement cell in guiding and preparing students?

Vansh: The placement cell is quite active in guiding students regarding aptitude preparation, technical interviews, and placement activities. Regular training sessions and coding preparation support help students prepare for recruitment processes. The environment naturally pushes students toward placement readiness from the third year onward.

Careers360: What challenges do you face in balancing academics with extracurricular activities?

Vansh: The biggest challenge is balancing academics, self-study, and extracurricular activities together. Being under the 75% attendance requirement sometimes makes it difficult to fully focus on independent learning or skill development outside the curriculum, especially for students preparing for technical roles.

Careers360: Are there any suggestions/ improvements you would like to see to make campus life better?

Vansh: One improvement I would like to see is a little more flexibility regarding attendance for students who are actively working on technical skills, internships, or projects. More industry-level hands-on sessions and project-based learning would also make campus life even better for students interested in development and research.

Careers360: What is one memory from your time at the college that you think you'll cherish the most after you graduate?

Vansh: One memory I will definitely cherish is the beginning of college life during the freshers’ event and the friendships formed afterwards. Engineering life becomes memorable not just because of academics, but because of the people, lab sessions, event participation, and daily campus experiences shared over the years.

Vansh: Yes, I would recommend Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College to future students, especially those who want a disciplined academic environment with decent placement opportunities. The college provides good academic support, active technical communities, regular events, and an environment where students can genuinely improve themselves if they stay consistent.
