Vivek: My name is Vivek Agrawal, and I am currently working at Emerson. My overall experience at the college has been very positive and enriching. The strong legacy of the institution, its reputation for discipline, and its excellent placement opportunities were the major reasons I chose this college as my alma mater.
Careers360: How would you describe the overall academic atmosphere on campus?
Vivek: The overall academic atmosphere on campus is very good. The faculty members are highly qualified, knowledgeable, and supportive toward students. The environment encourages learning, discipline, and academic growth.
Careers360: Do you find the library, labs, and digital resources sufficient for your academic needs?
Vivek: Yes, the library, laboratories, and digital resources are sufficient for academic needs. The library is well maintained and offers a wide range of books and study materials. The labs are equipped with the required instruments and facilities, and the lab assistants are also supportive and helpful during practical sessions.
Careers360: How approachable and supportive are the faculty members outside the classroom?
Vivek: The faculty members are approachable and supportive outside the classroom as well. They are always willing to guide students regarding academics, projects, and career-related concerns whenever needed.
Careers360: Are there opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, research, or innovation?
Vivek: Yes, there are several opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, research, and innovation on campus. Events such as Startup Conclave encourage innovation and entrepreneurship. The college also has various centers and facilities such as the NI LabVIEW Center, Fab Lab, and Drone Academy, which provide students with practical exposure and research opportunities.
Careers360: What student clubs, committees, or organizations are most active and engaging?
Vivek: The campus has many active and engaging student clubs and societies. Technical societies include the Programming Club, SI, Phoenix (the technical society of ECE), Cloud Computing Society, and Blockchain Society. Cultural societies such as Taal, Goonj, Horizon, Renaissance, and Euphony are also very active and provide students with opportunities to showcase their talents.
Careers360: Are events like cultural fests, sports meets, and social activities held regularly at AKGEC? If yes, did you participate, and how was the experience?
Vivek: Yes, cultural fests, sports meets, and social activities are organized regularly at the college. Events such as Jashn-e-Rekhta, Vibrations, and TEDx AKGEC are conducted enthusiastically every year. Inter-college sports competitions are also held regularly. In addition, social initiatives such as blood donation camps are organized frequently. Participating in these activities was a great experience as they helped in personality development and team building.
Careers360: Do you have a favorite spot on campus? If so, what is it, and why does it stand out to you
Vivek: Yes, my favorite spot on campus is the amphitheatre. It stands out because it is a vibrant place where various dance performances, singing events, and cultural activities are organized. It is also a relaxing place where students can sit and spend quality time with friends.
Careers360: How effective is the career services/placement cell in guiding and preparing students?
Vivek: The placement cell is quite effective in guiding and preparing students for placements. Placement opportunities in core companies are good, and I personally received two offers through campus placements. During the placement season,students are provided with aptitude preparation booklets and important interview questions, which are very helpful.
Careers360: What challenges do you face in balancing academics with extracurricular activities?
Vivek: One of the main challenges I faced was managing the 75% attendance criteria while participating in extracurricular and competition activities. However, the college is supportive in cases where students have genuine reasons. For example, I participated in the Smart India Hackathon competition at Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, due to which my attendance went below the required percentage, but the college considered it a valid reason and allowed me to appear for examinations.
Careers360: Are there any suggestions/ improvements you would like to see to make campus life better?
Vivek: One improvement I would like to see is the development of a stronger coding culture on campus. Organizing more coding competitions, hackathons, and small technical contests with rewards and recognition would encourage greater student participation and skill development.
Careers360: What is one memory from your time at the college that you think you'll cherish the most after you graduate?
Vivek: One of the memories I will cherish the most after graduation is receiving prizes and awards for topping in my STs, PUTs, and UTs. Those achievements and moments of recognition gave me confidence and motivation throughout my academic journey.
Careers360: Would you recommend this campus to future students? Please state your reasons.
Vivek: Yes, I would definitely recommend this campus to future students. The college provides a balanced environment for both academics and extracurricular activities. It helps students grow professionally as well as personally by offering quality education, discipline, placement opportunities, and exposure to various technical and cultural activities.
