Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) is one of the most established engineering branches. It has a huge influence on sectors such as power systems, renewable energy, manufacturing, electronics design and automation. Keeping the reputation aside, what do the placement numbers show? The RTI sourced data takes into consideration various parameters such as intake, registration, placement conversion and salary outcome at NITs offering EEE.

The dataset covers five NITs offering Electrical & Electronics Engineering. The comparison includes intake, registration, placement conversion, and salary data. The analysis takes into consideration five NITs, making it indicative rather than exhaustive.
This table captures intake strength, registration numbers, offers accepted and salary figures for 2024–25.
| Institute Name | Approved Intake 2021-22 | Students Registered for Placements 2024-25 | Placement Offer Accepted by Students 2024-25 | Placement % (Intake) | Placement % (Registered ) | Max CTC | Average CTC |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
75 | 56 | 48 | 64.00% | 85.71% | - | - | |
33 | 28 | 14 | 42.42% | 50.00% | 20.45 | 11.40 | |
60 | 52 | 40 | 66.67% | 76.92% | 16.00 | 5.90 | |
116 | 108 | 85 | 73.28% | 78.70% | 56.67 | 18.55 | |
172 | 121 | 97 | 56.40% | 80.17% | 36.50 | 12.26 | |
Total | 456 | 365 | 284 | 62.28% | 77.81% | - | 12.03 |
Observation: The placement percentage is 77.81 per cent for registered students, while the placement percentage against total intake is 62.28 per cent. NIT Surathkal leads in salary (Rs. 56.67 LPA highest) as well as the average CTC (Rs. 18.55 LPA). There is a gap between institutions, indicating that college choice significantly affects outcomes within the same branch.
This comparison showcases the structural difference between a mass-demand branch (CSE) and a core branch (EEE).
| Parameter | CSE (Top Branch) | EEE Engineering |
|---|---|---|
No. of Institutes | 23 | 5 |
Approved Intake (2021–22) | 2332 | 456 |
Students Registered for Placements (2024–25) | 2188 (93%) | 365 (80%) |
Placement Offers Accepted (2024–25) | 1892 | 284 |
Placement % (Registered) | 86.47% | 77.81% |
Placement % (Intake) | 81.13% | 62.28% |
Average CTC | 20.35 L | 12.03 L |
Observation: CSE clearly outperforms EEE in scale, registration ratio and salary outcomes. The intake difference alone (2332 vs 456) shows the structural demand gap. EEE’s average CTC (Rs.12.03 LPA) is significantly lower than CSE’s Rs. 20.35 LPA.
To remove the “institute quality” variable, this table compares both branches within the same five NITs.
| Parameter | CSE (Top Branch) | EEE Engineering |
|---|---|---|
No. of Institutes | 5 | 5 |
Approved Intake (2021–22) | 476 | 456 |
Students Registered for Placements (2024–25) | 437 (91%) | 365 (80%) |
Placement Offers Accepted (2024–25) | 407 | 284 |
Placement % (Registered) | 93% | 77.81% |
Placement % (Intake) | 91% | 62.28% |
Average CTC | 17.16 L | 12.03 L |
Observation: Even if we consider the same institute, Computer Science Engineering is ahead; 93 per cent placement (registered) versus 77.81 per cent for EEE. The salary difference narrows compared to the broader dataset but remains significant (Rs. 17.16 L vs Rs. 12.03 L).
EEE Is Stable, But Not a “Top Salary” Branch: Placement rates are respectable (nearly 78% of registered students placed), but salary averages trail CSE by a wide margin.
College Matters Within the Branch: NIT Surathkal and NIT Calicut show stronger salary outcomes than some others. Institute choice plays a major role.
Intake-to-Placement Gap Is Important: Only 62.28 per cent of total intake secured placements, meaning not all enrolled students convert into jobs through campus placements.
EEE Requires Clarity of Interest: Students inclined toward power systems, electronics, embedded systems, or PSU/government roles may find EEE suitable. Those primarily chasing software salaries may face stiffer competition.
