Joint preparation for JEE Main and COMEDK might be more convenient than preparing for these exams individually. Quite a lot of preparation for Physics, Chemistry, and Maths will be common for the two exams since they include the same topics covered in Classes 11 and 12. However, a different question-solving technique and strategy for taking mock tests will be needed for each exam.

In the COMEDK 2027 exam, there will be 180 MCQs, which are 60 questions each for Physics, Chemistry, and Maths, while one mark was awarded for every correct answer and there was no negative marking. The syllabus of this exam was based on the CBSE syllabus and included 33% topics from Class 11 and 67% topics from Class 12. JEE Main candidates need to refer to the latest syllabus issued by NTA.
Refer to the table given below for a comparison of JEE Main and COMEDK exam patterns. This exam pattern comparison helps in common preparation for engineering entrance exams.

Yes, JEE Main preparation can be effectively applied for COMEDK in many ways.
If you have been preparing hard for JEE Main, there is no need for you to begin your Physics, Chemistry, and Math preparations from scratch for COMEDK.
You can use:
1. Study materials from NCERT and others
2. Class 11 & 12 concepts
3. Formula sheet
4. Chapter-wise practice
5. Past years question paper practice
6. Revision
7. Practice of calculations
8. Mock test analysis

Preparation | Can You Reuse It? | What to Change |
Physics concepts | Yes | Practise more precise and time-bound questions |
Chemistry concepts | Yes | Revise NCERT topics on a regular basis |
Mathematics concepts | Yes | Improve calculation speed |
Formula notes | Yes | Practice new techniques to solve quickly |
Chapter notes | Yes | Keep short so that it is easy to revise |
Question practice | Partly | Incorporate practice from the COMEDK point of view |
JEE Main mocks | No | Give mocks separately for COMEDK |
Revision | Yes | Revising according to the need of each test |
Time management | Partly | Timing yourself according to the COMEDK format |
Previous year papers | No | Practise |
The most significant benefit of preparing for both COMEDK and JEE Main is the overlapping syllabus.
Also Check
1. Physics Concepts
Almost all of your Physics concepts are reusable.
Areas such as mechanics, thermodynamics, electrostatics, current electricity, magnetism, optics, and modern physics are very important for your preparation for engineering entrance examinations.
Since you have already prepared these areas for the JEE Main exam, there is no need to start from scratch for COMEDK.
2. Chemistry Preparation
Chemistry is another area that can be reused by you.
Save the following materials prepared by you for JEE Main preparation:
Short notes
Reaction notes
Formula sheets
Important concepts
Revision of NCERT chapters
Chapter-wise questions
Rather than studying the same chapter once again, revise your notes and practice COMEDK level questions with your saved time.
3. Mathematics Concepts
JEE Main Mathematics preparation is also helpful for COMEDK.
You can reuse the preparation of Algebra, Calculus, Coordinate geometry, Trigonometry, Vectors, three-dimensional geometry, Probability, Statistics. Only the difference lies in the question-solving speed.

While there is substantial overlap, there are certain areas where your preparation would be distinct.
1. COMEDK Mock Tests
You should not rely solely on JEE Main mock tests.
The COMEDK test is of a distinct pattern and timing. The official 2026 COMEDK pattern involved 180 questions overall without any negative marking. Hence, you should separately practice COMEDK mock tests and also practice answering the test paper within the specified time limit.
Exam Specific Practice Questions
The same chapter can be questioned in an exam in a way that is specific to that particular exam.
Candidates appearing for both COMEDK and JEE Main exam can use an easy preparation plan given below:
1. Form the Common Foundation
At first, begin with the syllabus that both share. Get your concepts clear in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. You need not form two different study schedules at this point.
2. JEE Main Practice
Once you have completed the syllabus satisfactorily, move on to practicing more JEE Main questions. Practice chapter wise questions and mock tests as per the latest JEE Main pattern.
Analyze your mistakes after each practice session.
3. COMEDK Practice
Now, as COMEDK comes closer, allocate some portion of your preparation for COMEDK practice. Attempt COMEDK mocks, improve speed, and try to make calculations fast
4. Reusing JEE Main Notes for COMEDK Exam
Your JEE Main notes will be your biggest time saver. Do not create a new set of notes for COMEDK. Only include a small COMEDK revision part in your existing notes.
In each chapter, keep:
Formulas
Tricks
Concepts that are likely to be forgotten
Mistakes
Fast calculation questions

Below are some points on how students can score good marks in JEE Main and COMEDK:
1) Understand both the exam pattern and syllabus.
2) Read theory from NCERT books.
2) Give more importance to the most asked chapters and topics from both exams
3) Students need to revise formulas from each chapter again and again.
4) After preparation, solve previous year questions, mock tests, and sample papers.
5) Try to solve the maximum number of questions from the most asked chapters and topics.
Practise Using:
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Yes, around 85-90% of the syllabus is common, so you can follow a common preparation for both exams.
JEE Main is mostly more concept-based, while in COMEDK, questions are relatively easier. Overall, JEE Main is difficult among all engineering exams.
The ideal number of hours that most students need to be putting into their studies is somewhere around 8-10 hours.
One can reuse JEE Main notes, formulas, concepts, books, and chapter wise questions for COMEDK preparation.
