Questions related to JEE Main

Have a question related to JEE Main ?

With an OBC rank of 5600 in JEE Main, you're in a good position to get into a variety of NITs and IIITs. You'll likely be able to secure a spot in a reputable engineering program, though it may not be in the top-tier NITs for the most competitive branches like CSE/IT.

Here's a breakdown of your options:

Top-Tier NITs:

For top-tier NITs (like NIT Trichy, NIT Warangal, NIT Rourkela, etc.), you may not be able to get into the most sought-after branches like CSE or IT with an OBC rank of 5600. You might be able to get into other core engineering branches like Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil.

Mid-Tier and Lower-Tier NITs:

You have a strong chance of getting into many mid-tier and lower-tier NITs with a good branch selection. You may also be able to get into some top branches like CSE/IT in less competitive NITs.

IIITs:

IIITs are a great option, especially with a rank like yours. Many IIITs accept JEE Main scores and offer excellent engineering programs.

GFTIs:

Government Funded Technical Institutes are also worth considering.

Private Colleges:

If you are not able to get into an NIT or IIIT, you may need to consider private colleges, but these are typically more expensive.

To maximize your chances, consider:

Branch Preference:

Be realistic about your branch preferences. If you're not able to get into CSE/IT in top-tier NITs, explore other core branches like Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil.

State-Level Counseling:

Check for state-level counseling options in your home state.

IIIT and GFTI Options:

Explore options in IIITs and GFTIs as they often have lower cutoff ranks than NITs.

Private Colleges:

If you are not able to get into an NIT or IIIT, you may need to consider private colleges, but these are typically more expensive.

Some specific examples of colleges you might consider:

NITs: NIT Hamirpur, NIT Kurukshetra, NIT Silchar, NIT Durgapur, NIT Raipur, NIT Jamshedpur

IIITs: IIIT Gwalior, IIIT Lucknow

In summary: With a rank of 5600, you have several excellent options for engineering education. Be strategic with your branch preferences, explore different types of colleges, and don't be afraid to consider alternatives if you're not able to get into your top choice initially.

Hello Bhuvan,

This is a personal decision based on a few important components:

  1. Goal Clarity: If IIT Bombay is your dream school and you feel you can prepare for the next iteration of JEE Advanced, dropping a year to study for JEE Advanced is a reasonable option. A dedicated and focused drop year has helped many students achieve great scores on JEE Advanced, and the top ranks.
  2. Current Opportunity: NIT Surathkal is one of the top NITs with opportunities for excellent placements, research opportunities, and the opportunity for interactions with top companies - especially for ECE/EEE. After that, with good academics, you can potentially earn your way into top M.Tech programs like MIT, Stanford, or IITs via GATE or GRE.
  3. Risk vs Reward: Dropping a year has a risk component: mental and academic risk. Think about whether you can handle that level of pressure and if your performance at JEE Advanced can improve with one more year of preparation.
  4. Ambition for MIT M.Tech: For M.Tech, you don't need an IIT degree to get into MIT. Strong research and projects, GRE scores, and thoughtful and compelling YES at SOP matter more than an IIT degree. Many students from top NITs get into MIT and other institutions throughout the world.

With a JEE Mains score of 94.32 percentile and a 12th grade score of 86%, and being an EWS candidate, your son has a good chance of securing a seat in a National Institute of Technology (NIT) or a less competitive Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). His score is in the top 5% of JEE Main candidates, which is a good position. While securing a seat in a top NIT or IIT might be difficult, there are other options like IIITs and good state-level engineering colleges.

JEE Main Score:

94.32 percentile is a strong score, placing him in the top 5% of JEE Main candidates.

12th Grade Score:

86% is also a good score.

EWS Category:

This provides him with a 10% reservation benefit in JEE Main, increasing his chances of admission.

Institutes to consider:

NITs: While competitive, he can consider NITs with lower cutoff scores.

IIITs: IIITs offer good quality engineering education and are a viable option.

State-level engineering colleges: Several state-level engineering colleges also accept JEE Main scores and can be a good option.

JoSAA and State Counseling:

He needs to participate in the JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) counseling process and also consider state-level counseling for admissions.

Preference Filling:

He needs to carefully fill his preferences during counseling, keeping in mind his JEE Main score, EWS category, and preferred institutes.

In summary, your son's score is strong, and with careful counseling and preference filling, he has a good chance of securing a seat in a good engineering college, including NITs, IIITs, and state-level colleges.

With an OBC-NCL rank of 949 in JEE Paper 2, and being female, your chances of getting a seat at the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) Vijayawada are likely very good, especially if you are also pursuing B.Arch or B.Planning. SPA Vijayawada is known for its strong architecture and planning programs, and your rank puts you in a strong position to secure a seat, especially given the female and OBC-NCL category advantages.

OBC-NCL and Female Category:

The OBC-NCL and female category benefits provide a significant advantage in admissions, increasing your chances compared to other candidates.

JEE Paper 2 Rank:

Your rank of 949 is a strong indicator of your performance, especially within the OBC-NCL category. This generally puts you within the top quartile of candidates for the program.

SPA Vijayawada's Admissions:

SPA Vijayawada is a popular and prestigious institution, and admissions are highly competitive. However, your rank suggests you have a very good chance of being admitted, especially with the female and OBC-NCL category benefits.

Important Considerations:

Seat Availability:

The specific number of seats available for OBC-NCL and female candidates in the B.Arch/B.Planning program at SPA Vijayawada will impact your chances.

Counselling:

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will conduct the counselling process, where you will have the opportunity to select your preferred program and college based on your rank and preferences.

Competition:

Be aware that other talented candidates with similar ranks and categories will also be applying for the same seats. However, your rank and category benefits are strong indicators of a good chance of admission.

In conclusion, your rank and category provide a strong foundation for securing a seat at SPA Vijayawada, particularly in the B.Arch/B.Planning programs. Be prepared for the counselling process and make sure to prioritize your preferences.

Hello Raghav! Well done on your accomplishment. I think you have the following options based on your ranks:

  1. JEE Main Rank 5764 (General; Karnataka): CSE at NIT Trichy or Warangal is difficult at this rank in General. The good news is that you can get into NIT Surathkal CSE through Home State quota. Surathkal is one of the best NITs for CSE and is at par with Trichy and Warangal in terms of placement.
  2. KCET Rank 165 : This is a good rank. You should be able to get CSE in any of the top colleges in Karnataka - RVCE, BMSCE, or MSRIT. These colleges also have good placements and reputations.
  3. VITEEE Rank 605: With this rank you can easily get CSE at VIT Vellore (including preferred categories). But, NIT Surathkal and top KCET colleges (RVCE, BMSCE, MSRIT) have generally more reputation than VIT.
  4. JEE Advanced and BITSAT : If you do well in JEE Advanced, then old IITs or IIT-Hyderabad would be worth targeting. BITS Pilani CSE is also a very good option, it is as good as old NITs and better than some IITs.
