Careers360: Tell us something about the institute. When was it set up? What is its vision and mission?

Prof. Amita Dev: Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College (AKGEC), Ghaziabad, was established in 1998 with the objective of providing quality technical education and developing engineers who are not only academically strong but also industry-ready and socially responsible. Over the last 28 years, the institute has earned a reputation as one of the leading engineering colleges in North India through its unwavering focus on academic excellence, innovation, research, and holistic student development.

Our vision is to emerge as one of the finest engineering institutions in the country by continuously expanding quality technical education through undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes, while progressing towards the status of a deemed university.

Prof. Amita Dev: Admissions to our B.Tech programmes are conducted primarily through the Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling (UPTAC) based on JEE Main scores, in accordance with the guidelines of the Government of Uttar Pradesh and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU).

While admission is based on merit, we always encourage students to look beyond popular trends while choosing their branch. Engineering offers diverse opportunities, and with the right mentoring, academic support, and exposure to industry, students can build rewarding careers in any discipline. It includes smart classrooms, modern laboratories, advanced computing facilities, a well-stocked central library, seminar halls, innovation spaces, sports facilities, and well-maintained hostels.

A distinguishing feature of AKGEC is its forward-looking integration of Artificial Intelligence across academics, research, and campus operations. Rather than treating AI as just another subject, we are embedding it into our academic ecosystem to promote intelligent learning, data-driven decision-making, interdisciplinary research, and innovation.

To support this vision, the college has established specialized R&D centres such as the Idea Lab, Cloud Computing Cell, Big Data Centre of Excellence, Metaverse Lab, Blockchain Research Lab, Machine Learning Centre of Excellence, and several other advanced technology laboratories. Our objective is to expose students to industry practices from the early years of their academic journey so that they graduate with the skills and confidence expected by employers.

Throughout the year, we organise industrial visits, expert lectures, technical workshops, certification programmes, hackathons, innovation challenges, and seminars in collaboration with leading organisations. These interactions give students valuable insights into current technologies, industry expectations, and emerging career opportunities.

A major focus area at the institute is continuous technical skill development. Students undergo structured training in competitive coding, programming, data structures and algorithms, aptitude, emerging technologies, and other domain-specific technical skills. A significant part of this training is delivered by experienced industry professionals and technical experts who bring real-world perspectives, contemporary tools, and best practices directly into the learning process.

AKGEC actively supports students in securing internship opportunities through its Training and Placement Cell, industry collaborations, alumni network, and faculty mentorship. To further strengthen practical learning, this year the institute has successfully launched 23 Summer Technical Training Internship Programmes on a self-sustainable model. These programmes are delivered by highly experienced industry professionals with proven expertise in their respective domains, ensuring that students receive hands-on training aligned with current industry practices and emerging technologies. This initiative reflects AKGEC’s strong commitment to equipping students with industry-relevant skills and preparing them to excel in an ever-evolving technological landscape.

Careers360: Please share placement statistics with information on the average package, highest and lowest package, number of students placed, and details of companies that have recruited.

Prof. Amita Dev: Placements have consistently been one of AKGEC's key strengths, with our students securing opportunities across leading multinational corporations, product companies, consulting firms, manufacturing organisations, and emerging technology startups.

Every year, a large number of reputed recruiters visit our campus. Our students have been placed with organisations such as Amazon, Google, TCS, Infosys, Accenture, Cognizant, Capgemini, HCLTech, IBM, Wipro along with several leading product-based companies and core engineering organisations.

What is particularly encouraging is the diversity of career opportunities available to our students. While many graduates pursue careers in software and IT, others build successful careers in manufacturing, automation, analytics, consulting, research, and other emerging technology domains.

For the current placement season, the highest package offered stands at Rs 40 LPA, reflecting the high calibre of our students and the confidence that recruiters continue to place in the talent nurtured at AKGEC.

As the placement process is still underway, the average package, entry-level package, number of students placed, and other placement statistics are being updated regularly. The latest verified figures are maintained by our Training and Placement Cell and can be shared once the ongoing recruitment cycle progresses further.

While placements remain an important outcome, our broader objective is to prepare graduates with strong technical knowledge, practical skills, and the adaptability needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
