Careers360: Tell us something about the institute. When was it set up? What is its vision and mission?
Prof. Amita Dev: Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College (AKGEC), Ghaziabad, was established in 1998 with the objective of providing quality technical education and developing engineers who are not only academically strong but also industry-ready and socially responsible. Over the last 28 years, the institute has earned a reputation as one of the leading engineering colleges in North India through its unwavering focus on academic excellence, innovation, research, and holistic student development.
Our vision is to emerge as one of the finest engineering institutions in the country by continuously expanding quality technical education through undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes, while progressing towards the status of a deemed university.
To achieve this, we strive to provide an academic environment that enables maximum learning through transparent academic and administrative practices. We are equally committed to promoting research, innovation, consultancy, and industry collaboration, creating opportunities for both students and faculty to contribute at national and international levels.
At AKGEC, education goes well beyond the curriculum. We encourage our students to innovate, undertake research, develop leadership qualities, and work on real-world challenges. Our goal is to nurture professionals who possess not only technical competence but also integrity, creativity, and a lifelong passion for learning.

Careers360: Tell us something about the admission process.
Prof. Amita Dev: Admissions to our B.Tech programmes are conducted primarily through the Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling (UPTAC) based on JEE Main scores, in accordance with the guidelines of the Government of Uttar Pradesh and Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU).
While admission is based on merit, we always encourage students to look beyond popular trends while choosing their branch. Engineering offers diverse opportunities, and with the right mentoring, academic support, and exposure to industry, students can build rewarding careers in any discipline. At AKGEC, we focus on helping every student realise their potential, irrespective of the branch they choose.
Careers360: What kind of infrastructure can students expect at the institute? Please elaborate.
Prof. Amita Dev: We believe that an inspiring learning environment plays a vital role in shaping future engineers. Our campus has been designed to provide students with all the facilities they need for academic, professional, and personal growth. It includes smart classrooms, modern laboratories, advanced computing facilities, a well-stocked central library, seminar halls, innovation spaces, sports facilities, and well-maintained hostels.
A distinguishing feature of AKGEC is its forward-looking integration of Artificial Intelligence across academics, research, and campus operations. Rather than treating AI as just another subject, we are embedding it into our academic ecosystem to promote intelligent learning, data-driven decision-making, interdisciplinary research, and innovation.
To support this vision, the college has established specialized R&D centres such as the Idea Lab, Cloud Computing Cell, Big Data Centre of Excellence, Metaverse Lab, Blockchain Research Lab, Machine Learning Centre of Excellence, and several other advanced technology laboratories. These facilities enable students to work on real-world challenges using emerging technologies while fostering research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
The institute further strengthens industry readiness through its 14 Centres of Excellence, established in collaboration with leading global technology and industrial partners such as Siemens, KUKA, and Bosch Rexroth. These centres provide hands-on exposure to advanced manufacturing, automation, robotics, Industry 4.0 technologies, and other cutting-edge engineering solutions, effectively bridging the gap between academic learning and professional practice.
Our endeavor is to ensure that students graduate with not only strong theoretical knowledge but also the practical skills, confidence, and problem-solving ability expected by today’s industry.
Careers360: There is a lot of emphasis on interaction with industry as well as companies that recruit. What are the steps being taken by the institute in this direction?
Prof. Amita Dev: At AKGEC, we believe that industry engagement should be a continuous process rather than something that begins just before placements. Our objective is to expose students to industry practices from the early years of their academic journey so that they graduate with the skills and confidence expected by employers.
Throughout the year, we organise industrial visits, expert lectures, technical workshops, certification programmes, hackathons, innovation challenges, and seminars in collaboration with leading organisations. These interactions give students valuable insights into current technologies, industry expectations, and emerging career opportunities.
A major focus area at the institute is continuous technical skill development. Students undergo structured training in competitive coding, programming, data structures and algorithms, aptitude, emerging technologies, and other domain-specific technical skills. A significant part of this training is delivered by experienced industry professionals and technical experts who bring real-world perspectives, contemporary tools, and best practices directly into the learning process.
To reinforce these learning outcomes, students regularly participate in coding contests, technical assessments, project-based learning, and innovation challenges that strengthen their analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and technical proficiency.
Alongside technical training, we also provide focused guidance in communication skills, resume preparation, group discussions, mock interviews, and personality development to ensure students are equally prepared for the recruitment process.
Our emphasis is not merely on achieving good placement numbers but on nurturing technically competent, industry-ready professionals who are capable of adapting to new technologies, solving real-world problems, and building successful long-term careers.

Careers360: Internships are now mandatory as per AICTE guidelines. Does the institute help students with this? If yes, how?
Prof. Amita Dev: Absolutely. We consider internships to be an essential component of engineering education because they help students connect classroom learning with practical industrial experience.
AKGEC actively supports students in securing internship opportunities through its Training and Placement Cell, industry collaborations, alumni network, and faculty mentorship. Students receive guidance in identifying suitable opportunities, preparing resumes, improving interview skills, and developing the technical competencies expected by employers.
To further strengthen practical learning, this year the institute has successfully launched 23 Summer Technical Training Internship Programmes on a self-sustainable model. These programmes are delivered by highly experienced industry professionals with proven expertise in their respective domains, ensuring that students receive hands-on training aligned with current industry practices and emerging technologies. This initiative reflects AKGEC’s strong commitment to equipping students with industry-relevant skills and preparing them to excel in an ever-evolving technological landscape.
In addition to industrial internships, many of our students also participate in research projects, innovation-driven assignments, and industry-sponsored projects. These experiences not only enhance technical knowledge but also improve problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and professional confidence.
Careers360: Can you please share details if there is any collaboration with universities abroad?
Prof. Amita Dev: Engineering today is truly global, and we believe our students should be exposed to international perspectives and best practices. AKGEC has established academic collaborations and partnerships that facilitate knowledge exchange, joint research initiatives, expert lectures, and international interactions for students and faculty members.
These collaborations help our students gain insights into emerging technologies, global research trends, and international academic practices. We continue to strengthen our global academic network and actively explore new opportunities that can enrich the learning experience of our students and faculty.
Careers360: Please share placement statistics with information on the average package, highest and lowest package, number of students placed, and details of companies that have recruited.
Prof. Amita Dev: Placements have consistently been one of AKGEC's key strengths, with our students securing opportunities across leading multinational corporations, product companies, consulting firms, manufacturing organisations, and emerging technology startups.
Every year, a large number of reputed recruiters visit our campus. Our students have been placed with organisations such as Amazon, Google, TCS, Infosys, Accenture, Cognizant, Capgemini, HCLTech, IBM, Wipro along with several leading product-based companies and core engineering organisations.
What is particularly encouraging is the diversity of career opportunities available to our students. While many graduates pursue careers in software and IT, others build successful careers in manufacturing, automation, analytics, consulting, research, and other emerging technology domains.
For the current placement season, the highest package offered stands at Rs 40 LPA, reflecting the high calibre of our students and the confidence that recruiters continue to place in the talent nurtured at AKGEC.
As the placement process is still underway, the average package, entry-level package, number of students placed, and other placement statistics are being updated regularly. The latest verified figures are maintained by our Training and Placement Cell and can be shared once the ongoing recruitment cycle progresses further.
While placements remain an important outcome, our broader objective is to prepare graduates with strong technical knowledge, practical skills, and the adaptability needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. The continued trust shown by recruiters year after year is a reflection of the academic foundation, industry exposure, and professional values that our students develop at AKGEC.
