JoSAA Seat withdrawal is the process through which a candidate freely cancels the seat allotted through JoSAA 2026 counselling. Once the withdrawal request is approved, the candidate is removed from the seat allocation process. Candidates generally choose seat withdrawal when:
They have secured admission through another entrance examination.
They are not satisfied with the allotted institute or branch.
They plan to take a drop year and prepare again.
They no longer wish to participate in JoSAA counselling.
The refund amount is based on the stage of withdrawal, processing charges, JoSAA refund procedures, admission status, etc. Candidates belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD categories are required to pay a seat acceptance fee of ₹15,000, while candidates from all other categories must pay ₹30,000. If a candidate willingly withdraws their seat, a processing charge of ₹7,000 is deducted, and the remaining amount is refunded. However, if the allotted seat is cancelled by the authorities due to non-fulfilment of eligibility criteria or document verification discrepancies, a deduction of ₹5,000 is made before the refund is processed. Candidates should refer to the latest JoSAA counselling guidelines for updated refund rules and timelines.
