A JEE rank of 212399 is not enough to be accepted by top IIITs. A few IIITs have managed to secure places in the top ranks, mainly for a few branches and categories. Let’s look at it step by step¹:

- General Category: Most top IIITs tend to set a minimum cutoff rank from around 100,000 to 150,000. Because your rank is above the grouping, reserving a spot for you becomes more difficult.

- Options to Consider: You may consider some IIITs that closed at higher rankings the previous academic years such as:

Malayalam is taught at IIIT Kottayam.

- B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering: Overall closing rank 7568 (SC category)

Closing rank 7611, B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering is for SC category.

- IIIT Ranchi is also as a good choice.

B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering Hons: Placed at closing rank 7842 (for SC candidates)

- Indian Institute of Information Technology, Bhagalpur.

B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering: Closing rank 8114 (SC category)

The following strategies might increase your opportunity to attend an IIIT:

If you are part of a reserved category (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS), the contest for your rank may be tougher.

In some cases, Electronics and Communication Engineering or Information Technology, may have better closing ranks than Computer Science.

- Go Through Many Rounds: Attend many rounds of JoSAA counseling for the best outcome.

Each year, cutoffs can be different and where seats are available matters significantly. Regularly visit the JoSAA website to see if your preferred course is still open and what rank is needed.

Hello Aspirant,

Given your JEE Mains EWS rank of 14,000, getting CSE in any of the top NITs or IIITs is going to be difficult. However, you might be able to get into newer or lower ranked NITs/IIITs, or branch CSE-related branches such as IT, Software Engineering or Data Science, which are not as competitive.

These are some of the possiblities:

  1. NIT Mizoram, NIT Nagaland, NIT Meghalaya (CSE or computer related branches)
  2. IIITs like IIIT Bhagalpur, IIIT Bhopal, IIIT Kalyani

These are the factors that can affect your chances:

  • Home state quota
  • Category seat variations every year
  • Round number (chances can increase in further rounds)

Hello,

With a JEE Advanced rank of 3878 in the female category, your chances of getting Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at an IIT depend on the specific IIT and its previous year cutoffs.

Usually, for general female category (also called female-open or female-general), ECE cutoffs in older IITs like Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, and Madras are quite high, often within the top 2000-3000 ranks.

For your rank around 3878, you might have a chance at newer or mid-tier IITs like IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Patna, IIT Ropar, or IIT Indore, where the ECE cutoff for female candidates has sometimes gone beyond 3500 or 4000 in recent years.

So, based on past trends, Electronics in top older IITs may be tough, but in newer IITs, you have a reasonable chance.

Hope it helps !

Hello,

Yes, If you work hard and study regularly, you can definitely crack JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

IIT Madras is tough, but many students from state boards have made it with good preparation. Focus on understanding concepts well, practice lots of questions, and solve previous years’ papers.

Also, try to join a good coaching or online classes if possible. Believe in yourself and stay consistent. You have a good chance!

Hope it helps !

Hello,

With a 5874 EWS rank in JEE Advanced, you can expect admission to some of the lower-tier NITs or IIITs based on previous year cutoffs.

You might get branches like Civil, Mechanical, or other core branches in NITs like NIT Jamshedpur, NIT Raipur, or IIIT Hyderabad (if you are lucky). Getting into top NITs or IITs is unlikely with this rank.
