Careers360: Congratulations for your outstanding performance in JEE Advanced 2022. What was your reaction upon knowing your rank?
Mahit: I was very happy. I was expecting to score good marks but being among JEE Advanced toppers was cherry on the cake.
Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. Which board have you studied under? Which school did you study in?
Mahit: I have cleared class 12 from Surat, Gujarat. I have studied at the Scholar English Academy (CBSE Board). I took PCMB in my class 12 and also appeared for NEET examination previously. I had secured a good score in the NEET examination, however, my interest was inclined towards the Engineering course only from the beginning.
Careers360: What is your overall and subject wise score in JEE Advanced 2022? What is your all India rank and category rank?
Mahit: Overall I secured 285 out of 360 with 93 in Chemistry, 107 in Physics and 85 in Mathematics. My AIR is 9 in Open (CRL).
Careers360: What was your JEE Main rank and marks?
Mahit: My JEE Main rank 2022 was 29. I scored 290 out of 300.
Careers360: Why do you want to study engineering? When did you decide to study engineering? Which branch would you be interested in? Any reason?
Mahit: I am willing to pursue CSE from IIT Bombay due to emerging scope in future. I was in a dilemma during my schooling years. However, I decided to pursue engineering after reading the syllabus for the NEET exam. Since the biological science of the NEET exam was inclined towards the practical aspect, which i was not interested in.
Careers360: When did you start your JEE Advanced preparation? Tell us something about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Advanced?
Mahit: During my coaching time at Allen Institute, the JEE Advanced mock tests were available in CBT mode to help students understand the CBT process which helped during the examination as well. Teachers at Allen Institute helped me alot during my JEE Advanced 2022 preparation. My JEE Advanced paper 1 didn’t went well as per the expectation. However, I did not let it affect my paper 2 exam. I aim to finish the questions with accuracy in as little time as possible.
Careers360: How was the preparation for JEE Advanced different from JEE Main?
Mahit: I started my JEE Advanced preparation from standard 10. I used to have classes and test studies on a regular basis. By the time I reached class 12, I was on my revision period. With the continuous study and solving test series, I completed my studies. The preparation for JEE Main and Advanced is different as per the perspective. The analytical knowledge is being judged on the JEE Advanced exam. I was simultaneously preparing for the international olympiad that helped me in my preparation journey.
Careers360: Since JEE Advanced was held just a few weeks after the JEE Main, how did you cope up preparing for both?
Mahit: The JEE Main rank helped me to boost confidence that I will be among top 100 candidates of JEE Advanced. With the preparation from class 10, I was able to quickly revise the important topics of the JEE Advanced exam.
Careers360: Mock tests and sample papers – how extensively did you practise with the help of these? Do you think practising from the previous year papers help and how?
Mahit: Yes, JEE Advanced previous year papers are very helpful during preparation. They help to analyze the approach with which the JEE Advanced exam shall be attempted. The questions in JEE Advanced are never direct. Hence, with the help of the JEE Advanced mock test, one can increase speed and accuracy required for the examination.
Careers360: Are there any special books that you feel have helped with your JEE Advanced preparation?
Mahit: I broadly studied from NCERT only. However, for inorganic chemistry I studied from V.K and for organic chemistry, I studied from M.S. Chauhan. For Mathematics I referred to the Balaji publication book. For calculus I referred to Sameer bansal. These are some of the best books for JEE Advanced as per my understanding.
Careers360: Did you face any problem during the JEE Advanced examination? Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest in JEE Advanced?
Mahit: Yes, as the JEE Advanced examination is one of the toughest exams, I faced a lot of pressure in the beginning. But, I aimed to solve the problems with accuracy and it helped. Physics was the easiest while Mathematics was the toughest for me.
Careers360: What do you think is a tough thing to manage during the JEE Advanced exam?
Mahit: Maintaining discipline is the toughest part of the JEE Advanced exam. Also, keeping it calm during the examination time is also something that is extremely important.
Careers360: What do you feel is the main difference between Paper 1 and Paper 2 in JEE Advanced?
Mahit: Paper 1 was much tougher for me as it was subjective. It was time taking as well as complicated. While, Paper 2 was moderately challenging.
Careers360: Did you face any technical glitches during the exam? What is your opinion on the way the exam was conducted?
Mahit: Yes, there were some technical glitches with the computers in PAN india.
Careers360: What do you think are the key factors behind your stupendous success in JEE Advanced?
Mahit: The support of parents and Ellen coaching institute was supportive during my preparation.
Careers360: How did you de-stress yourself during the preparation? What are your hobbies? How often could you pursue them?
Mahit: I like watching movies. Every night I used to take out time for movies/series to de-stress myself for 40-45 minutes.
Careers360: Who is your ideal or biggest inspiration in life and why?
Mahit: My biggest inspiration was AIR -1 Chirag, topper of the 2021 batch of JEE Advanced. He got AIR-1 with variation in Paper 1 and paper 2 marks. It helped me to motivate myself during the examination.
Careers360: You know you are an inspiration to thousands of students across the country. Do you have any message for future aspirants on tackling the JEE Advanced exam?
Mahit: I would suggest candidates to focus more on the basic concepts of the JEE Advanced exam. Make sure to check the JEE Advanced exam pattern beforehand. Students should focus more on what is asked in the question. I would also suggest future candidates to focus on mental fitness during preparation.

Hey,
If you take an additional exam in mathematics from an open board, as you want to pursue engineering, you will have two mark sheets which is not acceptable for JEE Mains or Advanced or JOSSA. NTA and IIT require single 10+2 certificate with the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
