CBSE responds to Careers360‘s Open Letter on JEE Main 2014 Online Application Form!

Seeing the panic amongst the students, we at Careers360 had taken the initiative to put forth all the doubts that were arising on account of the JEE Main 2014 Online Application into an open letter to the CBSE chairman. Our Editor Mahesh Sarma also met the CBSE representatives to hand over the letter and conveyed the concerns of the students in person. We were assured of a response to all the queries and doubts by CBSE at the earliest.

All the questions asked by us at Careers360 in our Open Letter to the CBSE have been answered point wise and exactly as we asked them. We are nevertheless heartened to see a response from the CBSE albeit a bit late though. It was our idea to put the answers in the form of a FAQ which is exactly what the CBSE has done in their latest notice.

JEE Main 2014 Online Application Form:

Careers360: How will students know about the dates and sessions of the JEE Main 2014 Computer Based Exam if they have failed to book their sessions after paying the JEE Application Fees?

CBSE Answer: If a candidate does not make any selection, he/she shall be randomly assigned a slot/date as per the availability of the same as per page no.11 of information bulletin.

Careers360: Students don’t have a choice on booking the exam centres –online for the paper 1 and offline for paper 2. There is no provision for students wishing to appear for both the exams at different centres.

CBSE Answer: Since Paper-2 is only in offline mode, a student who is appearing for both the papers, paper 1 being online mode and paper 2 being offline mode will only get such centers that have facility for both the modes of examination.

For example: Test centers for this could be PATNA
:

PEN & PAPER BASED and COMPUTER BASED. Kindly refer to appendix 2 of information bulletin. Two different roll no and separate admit cards cannot be issued to a candidate to appear at different centres for paper 1 and 2 separately

Careers360: Eligibility for private candidates or students of a correspondence course is not specified

CBSE Answer: As per Page No 12: 2.9.2 - Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination (QE), only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2012 or 2013; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2014 are eligible to appear in JEE (Main) - 2014.

Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2011 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2015 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main)-2014.
Candidates who appeared in class 12th/equivalent Qualifying Examinations in 2011, did not pass in 2011, but passed in 2012 are also not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2014.

This criteria is applicable for both private and regular candidates. Private candidate can fill ‘xxx’ against the school name column

Careers360: Apart from the HSC vocational courses, a student with a Diploma recognized by AICTE or a state board of technical education of at least 3 year duration is eligible for [Only for Admission to IITs] Does this mean that the students should write the JEE main 2014 for the eligibility to appear for JEE Advanced 2014? Please Clarify

CBSE Answer: Yes, to appear in JEE (Advanced) a diploma holder can apply in JEE Main 2014 but his rank and score for JEE (Main) will not be declared as diploma holders cannot apply for admission in NITs and CFTIs through JEE (Main) channel.

Careers360: Which are the Public School/ Board/ University examinations in India recognized by the Association of Universities and are they available in each and every state? Are there any exams other than the ones given by the AIU on their website? If yes, elaborate on the names with details.

CBSE Answer: Kindly visit the website www.aiuweb.org

Careers360: HSC Vocational courses- many students have doubts regarding this. Can some examples and details be provided about these courses?

  • The candidates will have to verify these marks and confirm on the website. In case of any discrepancy, the candidate should upload the copy of the mark-sheet online only latest by 25th June 2014 on JEE (Main) website.

  • During this period i.e. after the declaration of result of qualifying examination, the candidate may update their request to consider the total marks of a mark-sheet having better marks out of the mark-sheet of passing year or improvement year.

Careers360: Thumb Impression: Is it the Left or the Right Thumb that has to be used? Why does the brochure specify that during the exam, the Left Thumb Impression of the candidate will be taken in the attendance sheet? (Pg 23 of the IB of JEE Main 2014)

CBSE Answer: If the payment status of online transaction (by credit/debit card) is not communicated by payment gateway in real time then fee payment is not completed. After reconciliation if the amount is found debited, the same will be processed at payment gateway for refund.

Candidates are required to pay the fees again either through online transaction or by e- challan and to download the acknowledgement page. Your amount will be refunded back within 7 to 10 days.

Questions related to JEE Main

Have a question related to JEE Main ?

With 64 percentile and a CRL rank around 5.4 lakh in JEE Mains 2025, getting admission in any NIT or IIIT is very unlikely, especially in the general category. Most NITs close their admissions below a rank of 1.5 lakh, and even the newer NITs usually fill seats by around 3 to 3.5 lakh rank. IIITs generally have closing ranks below 3 lakh.

Instead, you can try for state government engineering colleges through your state counselling or look for private engineering colleges that have lower cutoff ranks. Another option is to explore management quota or direct admission routes if available.

HEY THERE!!!

  1. Given a JEE B.Arch rank of approximately 30,000 in the general category, gaining admission to DCRUST for B.Arch is, frankly ,not feasible .
  2. The university’s recent cutoffs are far more competitive; for instance, the round 1 cutoff for the general category in 2024 was only 36.
  3. Your rank is significantly above this threshold, so admission to DCRUST with your current standing is highly improbable.
  4. It would be advisable to explore alternative institutions or consider other academic pathways.

Hello Aspirant,

If your B.Arch rank is approximately 30,000 in JEE in general category, it might not be easy to get admission into DR-CUET (Delhi Regional Centre of the Central University of Technology) or comparable or significantly better institutions, and therefore, the cut-off is much earlier for general candidates in good reputation colleges at about a range of 5000-15,000 rank. That said, you may still have a chance at newer or even less reputed NITs, SPAs, or GFTIs as an option at JOSAA or CSAB; you are recommended to apply in all rounds of counselling, keep open state-level architecture colleges too, and explore private universities that are accepting NATA or JEE B.Arch scores.

With a JEE B.Arch rank of 30,000, getting admission in DCRUST is not possible because their cutoff ranks are much lower and they mainly consider NATA scores, not JEE Paper 2.

You can try these options instead:

Apply to other colleges accepting NATA scores.

Consider management quota seats in private colleges.

Prepare and appear for NATA exam for better chances.

With a JEE Advanced rank of 20,340, your son can likely get admission in newer IITs like IIT Bhubaneswar, Gandhinagar, Ropar, Mandi, Indore, Patna, or Jodhpur, mostly in less competitive branches.

Top IITs and popular branches like CS or ECE are unlikely.
