Top Government Engineering Colleges in West Bengal 2025

West Bengal has IIT, Kharagpur, which is considered to be one of the top government engineering colleges in West Bengal and in India. According to NIRF, IIT Kharagpur ranks 4th among the engineering colleges. Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur is another good government engineering college in West Bengal which is ranked 19th among the engineering colleges. NIRF is a ranking framework which was launched to rank educational institutes. NIRF ranking is highly considered when a candidate wants to get admission. Apart from these two, some other top government engineering colleges in West Bengal are Jadavpur University, Kolkata, University of Kalyani, Kalyani, National Institute of Technology Durgapur, and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, Kolkata.

Some of the exams include JEE Main, JEE Advanced and for higher studies candidates can appear for GATE. IIT Kharagpur is known to invite the best companies in the market for the students of various sectors such as core engineering, IT, and automobiles with the median package of 12.75 LPA. Jadavpur University also invites esteemed companies to their campus and many students are placed with the median package of 5.30 LPA.
