Shubham Gupta: I have completed my studies from Cambridge Court High School, Jaipur.
Careers360: What is your score in JEE Advanced 2018? What is your all India rank and category rank? What was your JEE Main rank?
Shubham Gupta: I scored 305 in JEE Advanced 2018. My All India Rank in JEE Main was 109 and JEE Advanced is 17. My category rank in JEE Advanced was also 17.

Careers360: JEE Advanced went online this year. What is your opinion about it? Did it change your preparation strategy for the exam?
Shubham Gupta: There was no harm in the online exam. I had enough practice because of the mock tests so I did not face any difficulty in the online mode.
Careers360: When did you start your JEE Advanced preparation? Tell us something about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Advanced?
Shubham Gupta: I started my preparation when I was in class 9 by setting my goal to get admission into IIT. I started preparing even more seriously from class 11. I used to wake up early and start my preparation. I did not go to school frequently. I utilised that time in doing self study. Then, I used to go for evening coaching classes and later study at night as well.
Careers360: How was the preparation for JEE Advanced different from JEE Main?
Shubham Gupta: Preparation of JEE Main required a thorough revision of NCERT which helped in JEE Advanced also but JEE Advanced was more about the clarity of concepts. JEE Main comprises of straight forward questions while JEE Advanced has questions with an elevated difficulty.
Careers360: Since there was just a month after the JEE Main, elaborate on your preparation strategy?
Shubham Gupta: My target during that time was to revise everything that teachers taught in the 2 years. I made sure that the revision was completed so that no regret was left after the exam. I even gave tests which helped me a lot.
Careers360: Did you take coaching for JEE and if yes from where? What are the benefits of coaching according to you?
Shubham Gupta: I took coaching from Allen Career Institute, Jaipur. Coaching can be of great help as they provide a platform to give tests regularly to keep a check on your preparation. They help you know your strengths and weaknesses. Since JEE level is increasing, I think there is a need of additional guidance other than schools.
Careers360: Mock tests and sample papers – how extensively did you practise with the help of these? Do you think practising from the previous year papers help and how?
Shubham Gupta: Yes, I gave many tests and practised sample papers. Previous year question papers give you an idea about the types of questions asked.

Shubham Gupta: I did not face any problem as such. According to me, Physics was the easiest. I found Maths to be a bit difficult. I lost my marks in Maths.
Careers360: What is the main difference between both the two papers in JEE Advanced?
Shubham Gupta: I found Maths to be difficult in the second paper of JEE Advanced.
Careers360: Did you face any technical glitches during the exam? What is your opinion on the way the exam was conducted?

Careers360: What do you think are the key factors behind your stupendous success in JEE Advanced?
Shubham Gupta: I want to give credits to regular hard work. Consistency is the key factor behind my success as I never took a break from studies. I revised everything I learnt in classes the same day itself. Blind faith in teachers helped me reach so far.
