Industrial Training Institutes have been established all over India by the Directorate General of Employment & Training (DGET), under the aegis of the Ministry of Labour and Employment. They provide technical and non-technical training to students. There are 71 registered ITIs in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh and five of them are government-run institutions. Interested candidates can gain admission to UP ITI colleges, through merit or via a state-level entrance exam conducted by Uttar Pradesh Vyavasayik Pariksha Parishad (UPVPP), in June/July. The basic qualification is matriculation with a minimum age limit of 14 years. The duration of the entire training period is one to two years, after which, students become eligible to enter the job market.
