How are the JEE Main percentile and rank calculated

NTA calculates the percentile of the candidate using the JEE Main 2026 normalisation process. The normalisation process converted the raw scores of the candidates into a percentile out of 100. This is done to ensure that all the candidates have a fair scoring chance as the JEE Main exam is conducted in multiple sessions.

The JEE Main 2026 rank of the candidates is calculated based on their percentile score. The authority employs a formula to calculate the rank.

Formula- (1-P/100)*N+1,

For JEE Main 2026, calculators will not be allowed in the exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has confirmed that no physical or virtual calculator will be provided. Earlier, there was confusion because of a typing mistake in the information bulletin, but NTA has now clearly said that students have to do all the calculations manually during the exam.

The calculator ban in JEE Main 2026 will test aspirants’ mental arithmetic and manual calculation skills, making speed and accuracy entirely dependent on practice. Regular solving of numerical problems without a calculator will be key to maintaining efficiency during the exam.  For more information, go through this article https://engineering.careers360.com/articles/how-virtual-calculator-impacts-the-preparation-of-jee-mains
