JoSAA Seat Allotment 2026 - The Joint Seat Allocation Authority will announce the dates for the JoSAA 2026 seat allotment on the official website, josaa.nic.in. The authority will announce the JoSAA 2026 seat allotment results 2026 in multiple rounds. There are usually 6 rounds of the JoSAA 2026 counselling for which the seat allotment will be released separately. To check the seat allotment, candidates need to login with their application number and password. Once the candidate is allotted a seat, they have to pay a seat acceptance fee by the last date to accept the seat for the JoSAA 2026 exam.

The JoSAA 2026 mock seat allotment will be announced online. Candidates can choose as many programs and institutes as they can and lock their choices before the final date. If they fail to lock the choices, then their last saved choices were automatically selected. During the seat allocation of JoSAA 2026, the authorities will segregate the candidates into the following categories.

The authority will conduct six rounds of JoSAA seat allocation. It will be based on the merit of the student, category, selected preferences, and availability of seats. Candidates who are allotted seats will have to download their provisional seat allotment letter and an e-challan to remit the seat acceptance fee. Here are the steps to download the provisional JoSAA 2026 seat allotment letter.
Go to the official website of JoSAA.
Click on the seat allotment link
Login using the JEE Main roll number and password
Click on the “Submit” button
Upon successful login, a provisional JoSAA 2026 seat allotment letter will be displayed.
Download and take a printout of the allotment letter of JoSAA 2026.
Once the authorities allot seats, the candidates will have the select opt for one three options given below.
Freeze - If the applicant is satisfied with the allotted seat and does not wish to participate in the further rounds of JoSAA counselling 2026.
Float - For candidates who are satisfied with the seat but would like to be considered for other institutes during the future rounds of JoSAA seat allocation.
Slide - The aspirant accepts the allotted seat, but is also open for admission into a higher preferred course in the same institute.
Those who accept the seat can pay the fee directly on the official website, without logging in. Seat acceptance fee can be paid using the e-challan or SBI Net Banking.
Candidates can also make a pre-payment of the "JoSAA seat acceptance fee" through the payment link that will be active from the starting date of JoSAA choice filling till the last date of fee payment for the last round.
Since the admission fee of each institute varies, candidates have to pay only the JoSAA counselling fee 2026, which will be adjusted against the admission fee.

After accepting a seat, candidates will have to report at the reporting centre for document verification as per the specified date and time. Those who fail to accept the seat or report on time will not be considered for admission. It should be noted that original documents will be required at the time of document verification.

Yes, the authorities will allow candidates to withdraw a seat after accepting, but it can be done only before the last round of JoSAA seat allocation. In such case, the JoSAA 2026 counselling fees will be refunded to the candidates after deducting the processing charges of Rs. 1500. Withdrawal of seats will not be accepted after the announcement of the last round of seat allocation of JoSAA 2026.

After downloading the letter, candidates and his/her parents have to sign the withdrawal request letter and report at a reporting centre to vacate the seat.
If a candidate has chosen a float option while accepting the seat allotted in an IIT in one round and in an NIT/IIIT/GFTI in a subsequent round, then he or she will be required to report to the institute again for document verification.
Similarly, if a candidate is allocated a seat in an NIT / IIEST/IIIT (Triple-I-T) or Other-GFTI in one round and in an IIT in a subsequent round, then he or she will be required to report at the institute again for document verification.
Note: If any student fails to report for the second document verification, then the allotted seat will be rejected. Also, a candidate will not be allowed to participate in further rounds of seat allotment.
