Vacant B.Tech Seats in UP Colleges - Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling recently released the BTech vacant seats, where a total of 74,000+ seats remained empty despite multiple counselling rounds. This huge number of vacant seats is a huge setback for the UP engineering colleges. The engineering colleges are failing to attract students, indicating a lower product value. There are atleast 22k vacant seats in core branches like CSE. The huge number of vacant seats in core branches has created more confusion among students. Further, the top colleges under AKTU have ended up with more than 200 vacant seats after counselling rounds. The major reasons behind the vacant seats include alternate branches' popularity, placements, curriculum, college credibility, etc.
Here are the vacant seats in top colleges after UPTAC Round 3 Allotment.

With the number of vacant seats being in the hundreds in the AKTU engineering colleges, one can certainly find few major factors in play. Check below to find more details on the same.
Despite conducting multiple admission counselling rounds, the core branches like Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, etc. remain vacant with multiple seats. With a huge number of vacant seats in top UP colleges including IET Lucknow, BIET Jhansi, and KNIT Sultanpur, students are looking for branches that will provide them job opportunities, not just a degree.
With the rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence, there has been a huge demand for engineers who can develop intelligent systems and automate business operations. This has led to students pursuing the CS, IT, AI, and Data Science branches. Students are now familiar with the latest industry trends and hence prefer new engineering branches over the traditional ones.
Latest updates have revealed that many private and mid/low-tier colleges under AKTU-affiliated engineering colleges have recorded uneven placement records and often have a weak and badly structured curriculum. This has led to the discontinuation of recent years; more than 50 private colleges affiliated with AKTU have discontinued engineering education over the past five to seven years. As per recent placement records, the Average packages in some colleges are often just Rs 3–5 LPA.
Further, the curriculum structure of core engineering branches (Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, etc.) are still being taught using traditional methods, and no upgrade has been made in the curriculum to match current industry needs. Students consider these curricula outdated and less useful for job opportunities. Hence, this has resulted in students leaving core branch seats even for lower cutoffs.
AKTU college has over 2 lakh+ engineering seats across 600 affiliated state and private institutions in Uttar Pradesh. The seats are offered for B.Tech programmes in all branches (CSE, Mechanical, Civil, ECE, AI, etc.). However, there are quite a few serious engineering students to fill the seats, resulting in vacant seats. The UPTAC phase 1 counselling process has allotted only 31,958 seats out of the 2 lakh seats across AKTU/UPTAC.
As stated by officials, there are around 753 colleges affiliated with the AKTU university. Some of the colleges have reduced engineering streams. These colleges end up offering classes up to 12th grade, despite the fact that such institutions are small in number.
