Hello there,
With a
7,00,000 rank in JEE Mains
, admission to top colleges in Kolkata for
ECE
is challenging, but still possible through
private colleges
or
management quota
.
1.
Private Colleges in Kolkata
:
Techno India University
Future Institute of Engineering and Management
B.P. Poddar Institute of Management and Technology
Narula Institute of Technology
These may offer admission through
management quota
or direct admission, especially in the later rounds.
2.
Private Universities
:
Sister Nivedita University
University of Engineering & Management (UEM) Kolkata
These universities might also accept students with higher ranks via
management quota
.
3.
Lateral Entry Option
:
You could pursue a
diploma in ECE
and later join a
B.Tech program
through lateral entry.
4.
WBJEE Counselling
:
If you’ve appeared for
WBJEE
, check for opportunities in government colleges with a more flexible cutoff for in-state students.
5.
Alternative Streams
:
Consider related fields like Electrical Engineering or Computer Science , which may have slightly higher cutoffs but still be accessible.

With a 65 percentile in JEE Mains and an ST category rank of 11115 , getting admission into a top NIT would be challenging, as the closing ranks for popular branches (like CSE, ECE, etc.) are much lower. However, you may still have chances for admission in less competitive NITs or for less preferred branches .
NITs with lower closing ranks : You may have a chance in NITs like NIT Mizoram, NIT Nagaland, or NIT Puducherry .
Less preferred branches : Consider branches with lower demand like Mining Engineering , Metallurgical Engineering , etc.
State Quota : Some states may offer additional seats for ST candidates under state-level counselling.
Make sure to participate in all rounds of JoSAA counselling to maximize your chances.
With an OBC-NCL rank of 273576 in JEE Main, chances for top government colleges in Tamil Nadu like NIT Trichy are very low. However, you may get admission in some private engineering colleges under management or TFW quota. Check state counselling.
With a JEE Main rank of 2,46,565 (assuming general category), chances at top NITs/IIITs are low. However, you can still consider:
Good Engineering Colleges That May Accept:
1. Private Colleges (through JEE Main or direct):
Shiv Nadar University, Noida
NIIT University, Neemrana
UPES Dehradun
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (some campuses)
SRM University (mainly through SRMJEEE, but JEE score also accepted)
Lovely Professional University (LPU)
2. State Colleges (via State Counseling):
TNEA (if Tamil Nadu domicile)
MHT CET (Maharashtra)
COMEDK (Karnataka, for private colleges)
With 53.82 percentile and AIR 57069 (SC), getting CS or AI in top NITs is unlikely. However, you may have a chance in newer or less popular NITs or through home state quota. Try CS-related branches too.
Hello,
As per your mentioned query, it is impossible to get seat in NIT delhi having 72 percentile as a general category. It falls below the cut off. You must have above 95 percentile to get admission in NIT.

Good luck!
With 91.76 percentile and an OBC-NCL rank of ~39,000, getting top NITs or IIITs is difficult, but you might still get lower branches in newer NITs or IIITs in later rounds.
Possible Options (in JoSAA Round 5-6 or CSAB Special Round):
NITs (Low-Demand Branches, Home State Advantage helps):
NIT Sikkim
NIT Meghalaya
NIT Mizoram
NIT Nagaland
NIT Arunachal Pradesh
IIITs (Less Competitive Ones):
IIIT Bhagalpur
IIIT Una
IIIT Kalyani
IIIT Manipur
IIIT agartala
With a 78 percentile in JEE Mains and EWS category, your approximate CRL (Common Rank List) rank would be around 2.4 to 2.6 lakh, and your EWS rank could be around 30,000–35,000.
Admission Chances:
NITs:
Very low chance for core branches (CSE, ECE, etc.), even in lower NITs. Cutoffs for EWS category in NITs are usually under 15,000 EWS rank.
IIITs:
Slight chance in newer IIITs for non-core branches like Mechanical or Civil, but still difficult for CSE.
State Quota:
If you're from a state with home quota in an NIT, you may get better chances in spot rounds.
Top NITs – No chance.
New NITs (like Mizoram, Nagaland) – Very slim chance in low-demand branches.
Top IIITs – No chance.
New IIITs – Very difficult, almost no chance.
Tip: Try for state government colleges through JEE Main too.
Since you’ve qualified JEE Mains Paper 2 but not Paper 1, you cannot apply for JEE Advanced directly, as the eligibility for JEE Advanced requires candidates to have qualified JEE Mains Paper 1 .
Eligibility for JEE Advanced : You must qualify Paper 1 of JEE Mains, which is the entrance exam for JEE Advanced . Paper 2 is for B.Arch aspirants and does not affect eligibility for JEE Advanced.
Which Score is Counted : For JEE Advanced , only the Paper 1 score is considered, and it’s used to determine your eligibility for the exam.
You may be able to apply for other B.Arch colleges based on your Paper 2 result, but for JEE Advanced, you would need to clear Paper 1 in a future attempt.
Cleared only Paper 2 in JEE mains
