With a 5600 OBC rank in JEE Mains, you have a good chance to get admission in decent government or private engineering colleges. You might get branches like Computer Science, Electronics, or Mechanical in some good NITs or IIITs, but it depends on your state and category quota. Also, check state-level engineering colleges and private universities with good placements. Use official counselling websites like JoSAA or your state counselling portal to see which colleges and branches are available for your rank.
Hello Bhuvan,
This is a personal decision based on a few important components:
Hello! With a JEE Mains score of 94.32 and 86% in 12th, your son has a good chance to get a seat in SASTRA University under the EWS category. SASTRA is known for quality education and good placements. I recommend applying through their official admission process and also checking for any entrance or counseling updates for EWS seats. Make sure to complete all required documents and submit the application on time to increase his chances. Good luck!
With your OBC-NCL rank of 949 in JEE Paper 2 and being female, getting a seat in SPA Vijayawada might be tough. Last year, the closing rank for OBC-NCL was around 619, and for female candidates, it was even better (lower rank needed). But since you are close, you should definitely try in JoSAA counseling and choose SPA Vijayawada as a preference. Sometimes, extra female seats (supernumerary quota) can help. Also, look at other SPAs like Bhopal and Delhi as backup options. Good luck!
Hello Raghav! Well done on your accomplishment. I think you have the following options based on your ranks:
Hello Radha ,

With a JEE Mains rank around 203,820, chances of getting top NITs or IIITs are low. You may get admission in some state-level or private engineering colleges across India. Branches like ECE or EE are more likely than CSE or IT, as those are highly competitive. Consider looking into newer NITs or private universities too.
With a JEE Main rank around 5 lakhs, getting CSE in top NITs or IIITs is unlikely. However, you can explore private universities like LPU, SRM, or state-level colleges through counselling. Also, check for spot round or management quota options in some institutes.
With an OBC-NCL category rank of 2,13,000 in JEE Mains, it is quite unlikely that you will get a seat in Government Engineering College Bikaner through the JoSAA counselling, especially in popular branches like CSE, ECE, or IT. This college generally closes at a much lower OBC rank for most branches.
However, you may still have a chance through CSAB special rounds , where cutoffs sometimes go higher. Also, if the college has any state quota or management quota options , it's worth exploring them separately. Keep checking the official CSAB website and the college’s admission notices.
Hello Vishal,
With 70 percentile in JEE Mains and OBC category, your approximate
CRL rank
would be around
2.5 to 3 lakh
, and your
OBC rank
might fall between
80,000 to 1,00,000
(this can vary slightly). Based on this, getting admission into top NITs, IIITs, or GFTIs for core branches like CSE or ECE is difficult, but you still have some decent options:
You can prefer the following types of colleges:
State Government Engineering Colleges
Many states like Rajasthan, Maharashtra, MP, UP, and Haryana accept JEE Main scores for their counselling (like MP DTE, Haryana HSTES, etc.). You have better chances in your
home state quota
.
Private Colleges with Good Reputation
Consider reputed private universities that accept JEE scores:
VIT (though it conducts VITEEE)
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham
SRM Institute of Science and Technology
Shiv Nadar University
UPES Dehradun
LNCT Bhopal
Galgotias University
Colleges under CSAB Special Round
Participate in CSAB special round after JoSAA; sometimes lower-rank students get seats in GFTIs or lesser-known NIT branches (like Civil, Metallurgy, or Biotechnology).
State-Level Counselling Based on JEE Score
If your state accepts JEE score for B.Tech admissions, you may get a seat in a government college using your
category rank
.
Tips:
Choose colleges where you get a full-time B.Tech degree and decent placement records.
Consider branches other than CSE if you're open to other options like Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, etc.
Be ready to appear for spot rounds or management quota seats in private colleges if needed.
