Different types of eligibility in regards to age, domicile, education and more will have to be met by the applicants to be able to participate in the counselling session and seat allotment process of TNEA 2017. Only those applicants who are able to satisfy the required TNEA 2017 eligibility criteria will be allowed to proceed further in the admission process. Before applying, the applicants are requested to read the eligibility criteria in detail. The applicants who fail to meet the criteria will be eliminated from the admission process. All applicants will be required to fulfil the TNEA eligibility criteria. Failure to fulfil the criteria will lead to the disqualification of the applicant from the entire TNEA 2017 admission procedure. Therefore, all applicants will be required to read through the set criteria and apply only if they are eligible.

 

TNEA Eligibility Criteria 2017

 

TNEA 2017 eligibility criteria are the standards and qualifications that an applicant will be required to meet in order to be termed as eligible for the admission procedure. A variety of standards relating to the age, nativity, education and more will have to be met by the applicants. Only those applicants who meet the eligibility criteria are requested to fill and submit the application form as ineligible applicants will be disqualified.

Educational Qualifications

  • The applicants will have to qualify 10+2th standard (or equivalent) examination with the required minimum average aggregate in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

  • General category applicants will have to score 50% aggregate in 10+2th standard (or equivalent) exam.

  • The applicants belonging to the backward classes will have to secure 40% marks and applicants of MBC & DNC along with SC/SCA/ST will have to score an aggregate of 40% in 10+2th standard (or equivalent) examination.

Nativity of the Applicants

  • Domicile residents of Tamil Nadu should have qualified 8th, 9th, 10th and 10+2th standard in the state.

  • If the domicile residents have completed their 8th, 9th, 10th and 10+2th standard from outside the state, then they will also be eligible provided they bring their copy of nativity certificate.

  • Children of government employees whose parents have been serving the state for the past 5 years from the day of application will also be eligible even if they are not domicile residents.

  • The children of All India Service Tamil Nadu cadre officers will also be termed eligible for admission.

  • If the applicant’s parent have been working in public sector or government recognized institutions for the past 5 years from the time of application, then they will also be eligible for admission.

  • Non-resident applicants of Tamil Nadu will also be considered eligible for admissions provided they have completed their 8th, 9th, 10th and 10+2th standard in the state. These applicants will not have to submit their nativity certificate.

  • Under the category of open competition, the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees who have completed their studies in Tamil Nadu will be eligible for admission if they are able to submit their identification certificate from the Head Quarters Tahsildar.

Marine Engineering Branch

To be eligible for the marine engineering branch, the applicants will be required to meet the following criteria:

  • Should have qualified 10+2 examination with Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and English as a separate subject.

  • The aggregate of 60% should be secured in PCM and 50% marks should be obtained in English.

  • Age: The applicant should be maximum 25 years old.

  • Height: Should be minimum 157 cm.

  • Weight: Minimum 48 Kg.

  • Should have normal colour vision.

  • The applicant should be medically fit.

Mining Engineering Branch

Female applicants who wish to pursue this subject will have to keep a few points in mind before applying:

  • As per the Mines Act 1952, 46 (1), no women will be employed in any part of the mine which is below ground and in any mine above ground except between the hours of 6 AM and 7 PM.

  • As per the Coal Mines Regulation 1957, 86 (2) no adolescent or women will be allowed to enter a shaft in a cage or other means of conveyance unless accompanied by one or more adult male.

Only those applicants who meet the above-mentioned criteria will be eligible for admission into the 571 participating institutes under TNEA 2017. After confirming their eligibility, the applicants will be able to fill and submit the application form. Only those applicants who fulfil the criteria and have successfully submitted the application form will be listed in the rank list which will be announced by the admission committee. Based on the rankings in the rank list, the applicants will be called in for counselling and allotted seats in the participating institutes. Any applicant who fails to fulfil the TNEA eligibility criteria 2017 will not be allowed to advance further in the admission procedure.
