TNEA Counselling 2020 - Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Tamil Nadu will conduct the counselling of TNEA 2020. The authorities will conduct the in-person TNEA 2020 counselling for special reservations and vocational stream candidates tentatively in the last week of June. After this, online TNEA counselling 2020 for all other candidates will commence tentatively from the first week of July. The authorities will group the candidates according to their rank and each group of candidates will be called to participate in TNEA 2020 counselling on their turn. The counselling of TNEA 2020 will be conducted in four to five rounds and the authorities will release the list of eligible candidates before each round. After publication of list, candidates will have to pay the counselling fee of TNEA in order to participate in the process. Candidates will have to lock their choices of institutes and courses during TNEA 2020 counselling. Candidates shortlisted on the basis of merit/rank list will be called to participate in the counselling of TNEA 2020. The authorities will group the shortlisted candidates according to their ranks and release the list of eligible candidates before each round of counselling. Candidates can refer to the following steps to understand the detailed procedure of TNEA counselling 2020.

Step 1: Publication of List of Eligible Candidates- Firstly, the authorities will release the list of candidates for counselling.
Step 2: Payment of Fee- Eligible candidates will have to pay the counselling fee of TNEA 2020 in online mode through credit/debit card or internet banking. It should be noted that the candidates will be able to participate in counselling only after payment of fees. Thus, candidates must pay the fees before the last date.

Step 3: Adding Choices- After the payment of fees, candidates will have login to the TNEA portal using their user Id and password (Same that used at the time of registration). After this, candidates will also have to choose their preferred choices of institutes and courses. Candidates will have to add their choices within 3 days of the commencement of the round. Candidates are advised to save their choices at regular intervals.
Step 4: Locking Choices- Candidates will have to finally lock the choices entered by them on the third day after the commencement of round. It should be noted that no modification can be done to the choices after locking. Once the choices are locked, a PDF document containing the list of choices locked by the candidates will be sent to their registered email with the generated integrity code. The integrity code is to prevent any further modification to the applicant’s choice list that has been submitted. If a candidate fails to lock his/her choices within the stipulated time, the system will automatically lock the choices.
Step 5: Tentative Allotment- After locking of choices, the system will allot a seat on the basis of choices set by the candidates. Candidates will be able to check their tentative allotment through their login.
Step 6: Submission of Allotment Options- After allotment of seats, a candidate will have an option to confirm, decline or reject the offer.
If a candidate is allotted a seat, he/she has the following options-
Accept the offer
Confirm the offer with upward movement
Upward movement here means that the candidates wishes to change his allotted seat and participate in further rounds of counselling.
Decline the offer and opt for upward movement
If a candidate is not allotted any seat as per his choices, he/she has the following options-
Opt for upward movement
Opt to participate in the next round of counselling as per the next round’s vacancy position
Note- If a candidate fails to submit any allotment option within the stipulated time, then his/her seat will be cancelled. However, the candidates can participate in further rounds of counselling.
Step 7: Final Allotment- After submission of allotment options by the candidates, the system will finally allot the seat to the candidates as per their options. The result of seat allotment will be available on the TNEA portal.
Step 8: Admission- Candidates who will be allotted seats in the final allotment will have to report the allotted institute for the payment of admission fee and confirmation of seat.
If a candidate is not allotted any seat during TNEA 2020 counselling, he/she can claim for refund of the initial deposit. The refund will be made according to the TNEA procedure.
In-person Counselling for Special Reservations and Vocational Stream Candidates
TNEA 2020 Counselling for Eminent sports persons, Differently abled persons,Sons and daughters of Ex-service men, Vocational candidates and Supplementary Counselling and counselling for vacant seats of SCA will be held in person only at Chennai. However, candidates must ensure that all online counselling activities like making payment, adding choices, locking choices, submission of allotment option and final allotment are performed through TNEA Web portal.
