One of the best strategies to prepare for GATE 2026 is to check the official exam pattern. Candidates will be able to find the details regarding how the entrance examination will be conducted through the GATE exam pattern. Through the exam pattern, the candidates will be able to know the marking scheme and the type of questions that will come for the examination. Knowing the exam pattern will also help the candidates plan out their strategy for GATE 2026 Chemical Engineering (CH).
Particulars | Details |
Mode | Computer Based Test |
Duration | 3 Hours |
Type of Questions |
|
Total Number of Questions | 65 |
Total Marks | 100 |
Negative Marking | MCQs will have negative marking while NAT will not. |
Next, the candidates are advised to create a study schedule. Through the study schedule, the candidates can divide out the topics and units and allot certain days and time slots for it. This will keep the candidates on track and will also allow them to track their progress. It should be noted that a study schedule should be created as per the aptitude of the candidates. Don’t follow the study plans of other candidates. They should make their own and follow it accordingly to get good results in the examination.
GATE mock tests are the recommended go-to resource for exam preparation. By attempting mock tests and sample papers for GATE, the candidates will be able to assess their current progress and accordingly move ahead. Candidates should analyse their mistakes and correct them. Mock tests and GATE 2026 sample papers will also allow the students to have a taste of how the entrance examination is conducted. Time management can also be practised by attempting mock tests and sample papers in an examination like environment.
Candidates should include daily revisions in their study schedule. By revising what has been learnt on a regular basis, the chances of forgetting any particular topic will be less. Daily revisions will also allow the students to completely understand the syllabus so that no confusion arises during the examination. Especially, the candidates should constantly revise those topics which they find difficult to understand and remember.
| Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday | Saturday | Sunday |
| Engineering Mathematics (2 hrs) | General Aptitude (1.5 hrs) | Solve Previous Year Questions (3 hrs) | Core Subject 3 Study (3 hrs) | Engineering Mathematics (2 hrs) | Full-Length Subject Test (3 hrs) | Weekly Review and Revision (3 hrs) |
| Core Subject 1 Study (3 hrs) | Core Subject 2 Study (3.5 hrs) | Conceptual Revision and Notes (2 hrs) | Topic-wise Mock Test Practice (2 hrs) | Core Subject 4 Study (3 hrs) | Error Analysis and Notes Update (2 hrs) | Strategy Planning for Next Week (2 hrs) |
Keep Yourself Busy
During the preparation process, there may come a time when the candidate feels unmotivated and lazy. To make sure that this does not occur, the candidates should make the process a bit less monotonous. The study schedule should mix up the topics and units so that different things are being learned. Regular breaks should also be given in between in which the candidates can indulge in their preferred extracurricular activities. Candidates should not give up on their sleep and should keep their mental and physical health at its best.

This is likely a temporary portal or validation issue, not something you did wrong. When candidates try to change category from GEN to OBC-NCL during the GATE correction window, the system checks required fields and sometimes a supporting certificate or fee is needed. If any required data or document is missing, or the server is busy, the portal can show Something went wrong, please try again. Explain to them that first they should log into the GATE portal, open the Correction tab and confirm which fields are editable and whether a payment or document upload is required for category change. Tell them to clear browser cache or try a different browser/device and retry. If the error persists, advise contacting GATE support or the zonal office with a screenshot and timing of the error so officials can check server logs.
