How to Prepare for GATE 2020 Chemical Engineering (CH) - After completing B.Tech in chemical engineering, the next target for many candidates is to get a good rank in GATE. High performers in GATE chemical engineering (CH) paper are frequently absorbed by top PSUs and MNCs. Many also go for higher studies in top institutes like IITs and NITs. But chemical engineering being a popular discipline, the number of test takers is high and so also the competition. Consequently, to perform well the candidate at the minimum needs to know how to prepare for GATE chemical engineering paper. For example, while good and easy-to-follow study material can aid preparation, those with convoluted explanations can really slow down progress. There are many other ways that can send a well-meaning preparation cartwheeling towards failure. It is the reason why we have come up with this article on How to Prepare for GATE 2020 Chemical Engineering (CH).
Latest: GATE 2020 mock test released. IIT Delhi will release the admit card of GATE 2020 on January 3.

Get hold of the GATE syllabus. Check out the topics included in it. Please note that questions will invariably be asked from the official GATE syllabus only, so there is no point wasting time and effort elsewhere. It is also a good idea to segregate the syllabus into smaller segments, say based on difficulty level, how a topic is interrelated, and also weightage they carry. It will bring a method to your preparation.

Make a study schedule: Having a schedule will make it easier to keep tab of things like the candidate can check how much progress has been made. It is generally a good idea to be flexible with the schedule, as this way the candidate will be able to make the necessary changes.

Check out the exam pattern

Many students don’t give much thought to the exam pattern of GATE 2020. But it shouldn’t be the case as a proper understanding of the exam pattern can help the candidate prepare better. For example, the exam pattern tells that some questions carry negative marks, while question type may be multiple choice or NAT type. Such details would help the candidate plan a strategy – like focus on speed and accuracy.

Key points of GATE 2020 exam pattern

  • The test will be of 3 hours

  • Questions will be asked from – General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics, and Subject-specific part

  • A total of 65 questions, carrying total 100 marks, will be asked

  • Question type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions.

  • Marking scheme: MCQs carry negative marks, while NAT questions don’t

Prepare from good books

Unless the books the candidate is relying on are not of the desired standard, a good outcome can’t be expected. When selecting books for GATE, some of the points that must be considered are:

  • Do the books meet prescribed GATE standards?

  • Are they properly edited for factual and other errors?

  • Is the language simple enough for the candidate to follow

  • Is the book (s) the latest edition with all the latest GATE guidelines incorporated.

Solve sample papers

Simple reading and trying a few problems here and there is not going to be enough. Instead, the candidate must solve as many sample papers and previous years’ GATE question papers he/ she can. Also, it is not necessary that sample and questions papers be solved only in the last few months of the exam. Instead, the candidate must make it a part of the preparation strategy early on. After completing a chapter, the candidate may start solving problems related to it. This exercise will help build problem-solving ability and also instill confidence.

Take mock tests

The next item included in our GATE 2020 - How to Prepare for Chemical Engineering list is related to mock tests. The GATE exam will be conducted online and mock tests are designed to help the candidate get familiar with the functionalities of the test. The GATE mock test is just like the actual test, so candidates can find out how questions are distributed across sections, the segregation of questions as per their status, and much more. In addition to official mock tests, the candidates may also attempt mock tests at school or even online.

Stay positive

The trials and tribulations of preparation often take a toll on the student. To withstand it, the candidate needs to ensure that there are gaps during preparation that give enough breathing space. Also, to distract from the pressure, physical activities are recommended. Another thing is the candidate shouldn’t stay completely isolated, as it will make it difficult for others to help the candidate if help is required.

which online class is best for Mechanical engineering for GATE exam?

Naufal Mohamed 15th Dec, 2019
You have so many online websites for tutorials of GATE.
I would advise you to refer to a few youtube channels for the same. Tutorials point is one such channel. Also make sure to go through solved papers from previous years. I would also suggest the gate prep book by McGraw Hill.

hello careers360 . Im btech 3rd year IT student. my 3-1 has almost completed. And 3-2 is about to start . I want to write GATE-2021 exam .Im an average student with CGPA 6.8. Is there any least possibility that I can crack gate exam. If so could you please suggest me good coaching centre ,strategy

Aditi Amrendra Student Expert 15th Dec, 2019

Nothing is impossible in this world if you will have dedications and discipline towards your goal.
No one is an average student or brilliant students, the only difference between an average students and a brilliant students is the mindset. So, if you will have better mindset then this exam will also be easy for you.Clearing any exam requires hardwork, dedication and discipline.

First of all make a study plan and set targets for daily, weekly and monthly.
Give more importance to those topics which have more chances of having high weightage in the examination and work on your weak areas.

Having right books an sources are must for the preparation so you must have best books. You can find books for preparing from the link below

Focus on Engineering Mathematics and Aptitude Test
The following books can be referred to for Engineering Mathematics:

Engineering Mathematics by Erwin Kreyszig
Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications by Kenneth Rosen
Engineering Mathematics by BS Garewal

A good conceptual understanding will be able to help you during the examination as it will make the questions explanatory which may eventually lead to a correct answer. By having a clear understanding of the concepts, you will be able to apply the concepts accordingly to the questions and solve it instead of relying on rote memory.

Time management is the key.You have college also and you will have to take care of your health so take care of everything accordingly.

You must do revision multiple times.Analyze your preparation. After completing every mock test or solving sample papers, it is important to check and try to correct all of the wrong answers marked by you. This will ensure that you will not wrongly answer the same question next time.
