With a 5600 OBC rank in JEE Mains, you have a good chance to get admission in decent government or private engineering colleges. You might get branches like Computer Science, Electronics, or Mechanical in some good NITs or IIITs, but it depends on your state and category quota. Also, check state-level engineering colleges and private universities with good placements. Use official counselling websites like JoSAA or your state counselling portal to see which colleges and branches are available for your rank.

Hello Bhuvan,

This is a personal decision based on a few important components:

  1. Goal Clarity: If IIT Bombay is your dream school and you feel you can prepare for the next iteration of JEE Advanced, dropping a year to study for JEE Advanced is a reasonable option. A dedicated and focused drop year has helped many students achieve great scores on JEE Advanced, and the top ranks.
  2. Current Opportunity: NIT Surathkal is one of the top NITs with opportunities for excellent placements, research opportunities, and the opportunity for interactions with top companies - especially for ECE/EEE. After that, with good academics, you can potentially earn your way into top M.Tech programs like MIT, Stanford, or IITs via GATE or GRE.
  3. Risk vs Reward: Dropping a year has a risk component: mental and academic risk. Think about whether you can handle that level of pressure and if your performance at JEE Advanced can improve with one more year of preparation.
  4. Ambition for MIT M.Tech: For M.Tech, you don't need an IIT degree to get into MIT. Strong research and projects, GRE scores, and thoughtful and compelling YES at SOP matter more than an IIT degree. Many students from top NITs get into MIT and other institutions throughout the world.

Hello! With a JEE Mains score of 94.32 and 86% in 12th, your son has a good chance to get a seat in SASTRA University under the EWS category. SASTRA is known for quality education and good placements. I recommend applying through their official admission process and also checking for any entrance or counseling updates for EWS seats. Make sure to complete all required documents and submit the application on time to increase his chances. Good luck!

With your OBC-NCL rank of 949 in JEE Paper 2 and being female, getting a seat in SPA Vijayawada might be tough. Last year, the closing rank for OBC-NCL was around 619, and for female candidates, it was even better (lower rank needed). But since you are close, you should definitely try in JoSAA counseling and choose SPA Vijayawada as a preference. Sometimes, extra female seats (supernumerary quota) can help. Also, look at other SPAs like Bhopal and Delhi as backup options. Good luck!

Hello Raghav! Well done on your accomplishment. I think you have the following options based on your ranks:

  1. JEE Main Rank 5764 (General; Karnataka): CSE at NIT Trichy or Warangal is difficult at this rank in General. The good news is that you can get into NIT Surathkal CSE through Home State quota. Surathkal is one of the best NITs for CSE and is at par with Trichy and Warangal in terms of placement.
  2. KCET Rank 165 : This is a good rank. You should be able to get CSE in any of the top colleges in Karnataka - RVCE, BMSCE, or MSRIT. These colleges also have good placements and reputations.
  3. VITEEE Rank 605: With this rank you can easily get CSE at VIT Vellore (including preferred categories). But, NIT Surathkal and top KCET colleges (RVCE, BMSCE, MSRIT) have generally more reputation than VIT.
  4. JEE Advanced and BITSAT : If you do well in JEE Advanced, then old IITs or IIT-Hyderabad would be worth targeting. BITS Pilani CSE is also a very good option, it is as good as old NITs and better than some IITs.

Hello Radha ,

I hope you are doing well. As per your mentioned query, yes jee advanced is mandatory for AAT exam. Only the qualifiers of JEE advanced can attempt the Architecture Aptitude Test.

With a JEE Mains rank around 203,820, chances of getting top NITs or IIITs are low. You may get admission in some state-level or private engineering colleges across India. Branches like ECE or EE are more likely than CSE or IT, as those are highly competitive. Consider looking into newer NITs or private universities too.

With a JEE Main rank around 5 lakhs, getting CSE in top NITs or IIITs is unlikely. However, you can explore private universities like LPU, SRM, or state-level colleges through counselling. Also, check for spot round or management quota options in some institutes.

With an OBC-NCL category rank of 2,13,000 in JEE Mains, it is quite unlikely that you will get a seat in Government Engineering College Bikaner through the JoSAA counselling, especially in popular branches like CSE, ECE, or IT. This college generally closes at a much lower OBC rank for most branches.

However, you may still have a chance through CSAB special rounds , where cutoffs sometimes go higher. Also, if the college has any state quota or management quota options , it's worth exploring them separately. Keep checking the official CSAB website and the college’s admission notices.

Hello Vishal,

With 70 percentile in JEE Mains and OBC category, your approximate CRL rank would be around 2.5 to 3 lakh , and your OBC rank might fall between 80,000 to 1,00,000 (this can vary slightly). Based on this, getting admission into top NITs, IIITs, or GFTIs for core branches like CSE or ECE is difficult, but you still have some decent options:

You can prefer the following types of colleges:

  • State Government Engineering Colleges

    • Many states like Rajasthan, Maharashtra, MP, UP, and Haryana accept JEE Main scores for their counselling (like MP DTE, Haryana HSTES, etc.). You have better chances in your home state quota .

  • Private Colleges with Good Reputation

    • Consider reputed private universities that accept JEE scores:

      • VIT (though it conducts VITEEE)

      • Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham

      • SRM Institute of Science and Technology

      • Shiv Nadar University

      • UPES Dehradun

      • LNCT Bhopal

      • Galgotias University

  • Colleges under CSAB Special Round

    • Participate in CSAB special round after JoSAA; sometimes lower-rank students get seats in GFTIs or lesser-known NIT branches (like Civil, Metallurgy, or Biotechnology).

  • State-Level Counselling Based on JEE Score

    • If your state accepts JEE score for B.Tech admissions, you may get a seat in a government college using your category rank .

      Tips:

  • Choose colleges where you get a full-time B.Tech degree and decent placement records.

  • Consider branches other than CSE if you're open to other options like Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, etc.

  • Be ready to appear for spot rounds or management quota seats in private colleges if needed.
