i got 82 marks in 4 th april 1st shift jee mains paper .. what percentile can i expect ??? and am i eligible for jee advanced 2024 ( obc ncl student ) ??

Akansha Sharma 24th Dec, 2024

With 82 marks in the JEE Main 4th April 1st shift, your expected percentile could range between 87 to 92, depending on the paper's difficulty and performance of other candidates. As an OBC-NCL student, the JEE Advanced cutoff is typically lower than the General category. If the cutoff percentile for OBC-NCL remains around 68-70 (as in previous years), you are likely eligible to fill the JEE Advanced 2024 form. Confirm this with the official results and cutoff announcements.

I am a jee 2025 aspirant have a obc cl certificate. I want to transform it to obc ncl as my parents annual income is under 8 lakh. Should I do it now or after 1st April, 2025 to get reservation benefits?

Akansha Sharma 2nd Jun, 2025

To get OBC-NCL reservation for JEE 2025, your certificate must be issued on or after April 1, 2025. Since your parents’ income is below 8 lakh, you qualify. So, apply for the OBC-NCL certificate after April 1, 2025 to make sure it’s valid for the exam. Start the process early because it can take some time. Don’t use your current OBC-CL certificate because it won’t give you reservation benefits.

I have got 50 percent in class 12 CBSE boards and 81 percentile in JEE Mains. What are the best college options for me ?

Shubham Aggarwal 9th Apr, 2024

Hi,

With 50% in Class 12 CBSE boards and 81 percentile in JEE Mains, your options for college admission may vary depending on your preferences, category (if applicable), and other factors. Here are some potential college options you can consider:

  1. National Institutes of Technology (NITs) : NITs are premier engineering institutions in India. With your JEE Mains percentile, you may have a chance to get admission to some NITs for branches like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, etc. Your Class 12 percentage may not be a significant factor for admission to NITs, as they primarily consider JEE Mains scores.

  2. Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) : IIITs also offer excellent engineering programs. With your JEE Mains percentile, you may have options to consider IIITs for branches like Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, etc. IIITs often have different admission criteria compared to NITs.

  3. Government Engineering Colleges : Various state-level government engineering colleges may offer admission based on JEE Mains scores. These colleges may have different admission criteria and cutoffs, so it's essential to research and apply to colleges where you meet the eligibility criteria.

  4. State Government Universities : Some state government universities offer B.Tech programs and may consider JEE Mains scores for admission. These universities may have different branches and admission processes, so you can explore options in your state of domicile.

  5. Private Engineering Colleges : Several private engineering colleges across India offer B.Tech programs and may consider JEE Mains scores for admission. These colleges often have different fee structures, infrastructure, and placement opportunities, so you can explore options based on your preferences.

  6. Consider Diploma Courses : If you are interested in pursuing engineering but unable to secure admission to B.Tech programs, you can consider diploma courses in engineering from polytechnic institutes. After completing a diploma, you can opt for lateral entry into the second year of B.Tech programs in some colleges.

Additionally, utilize the JEE Main College Predictor to assess your admission possibilities based on your percentile and preferences.

If i get a percentile of 87 in jee mains and get decent engineering course in bits pilani. should it take drop for next year jee advanced or get the bits pilani?

Shubham Aggarwal 4th Apr, 2024

Hi,

Deciding whether to take a drop for JEE Advanced or accept admission to BITS Pilani depends on various factors and ultimately comes down to your personal goals, circumstances, and priorities. Here are some points to consider when making this decision:

  1. Rank Comparison : Compare your expected JEE Advanced rank with your BITSAT score. If you believe you have a realistic chance of significantly improving your rank in JEE Advanced and getting into a better institute than BITS Pilani, then taking a drop might be worth considering.

  2. Institute Reputation : Consider the reputation and ranking of BITS Pilani compared to the institutes you might target through JEE Advanced. BITS Pilani is widely recognized as one of the top engineering institutes in India, so accepting admission there may provide you with excellent opportunities for academic and career growth.

  3. Course and Campus : Evaluate the specific engineering course and campus you have been offered at BITS Pilani. If you are satisfied with the course offerings, facilities, and campus environment, it may weigh in favor of accepting the admission offer.

  4. Financial Considerations : Think about the financial implications of taking a drop versus accepting admission to BITS Pilani. Taking a drop may involve additional expenses for coaching, study materials, and living expenses for another year, whereas accepting admission to BITS Pilani may offer financial stability.

  5. Personal Readiness : Assess your readiness to go through another year of preparation for JEE Advanced. Consider factors such as your motivation, determination, and willingness to commit to the rigorous preparation required for the exam.

  6. Alternative Options : Explore alternative options available to you if you choose to take a drop. Consider whether there are other institutes or courses you would be interested in applying to if you don't succeed in JEE Advanced next year.

Ultimately, it's essential to weigh these factors carefully and make a decision that aligns with your academic and career aspirations, as well as your personal circumstances.

is taking a drop year to prepare for jee worth it? also how much rank do i need to get to qualify for advance? and if I do qualify for advanced what% chance is there that Ill get into an IIT? how many marks are required in jee advanced to get a good branch?

Shubham Aggarwal 4th Apr, 2024

Hi,

Deciding to take a drop year to prepare for JEE can be a significant decision with both potential benefits and drawbacks. Here are some factors to consider:

Pros of Taking a Drop Year:

  1. Opportunity for Improvement : Taking a drop year allows you to dedicate more time and effort to preparation, potentially leading to a higher score and better rank in JEE Advanced.
  2. Focused Preparation : With a year solely dedicated to preparation, you can focus on strengthening your weak areas, revising concepts thoroughly, and practicing extensively, which may lead to better performance in the exam.
  3. Chance to Target Specific Institutes : If you have a particular institute or course in mind that requires a higher rank, taking a drop year may give you the opportunity to aim for that goal.
  4. Personal Growth : A drop year can also be a time for personal growth, self-reflection, and maturity, which can be valuable qualities for success in academics and beyond.

Cons of Taking a Drop Year:

  1. Uncertainty : There's no guarantee that taking a drop year will lead to a significant improvement in your JEE Advanced rank. Factors like exam difficulty, personal circumstances, and other variables can affect your performance.
  2. Time and Opportunity Cost : Taking a drop year means delaying your entry into college and potentially missing out on a year of academic and professional development.
  3. Pressure and Stress : The pressure to perform better after taking a drop year can be immense, leading to increased stress and anxiety during preparation.
  4. Alternative Paths : There may be alternative paths to achieve your academic and career goals without taking a drop year, such as exploring other institutes or courses based on your current rank.

Qualifying for JEE Advanced: To qualify for JEE Advanced, you need to meet the cutoff criteria set by the exam conducting authority. Typically, the top 2.5 lakh candidates (including all categories) based on their JEE Main ranks are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.

Chances of Getting into an IIT: The chances of getting into an IIT depend on various factors, including your JEE Advanced rank, the availability of seats in your preferred branch and institute, reservation criteria, and competition from other candidates. It's challenging to quantify the exact percentage chance of admission as it varies from year to year and among different IITs and branches.

Marks Required in JEE Advanced: The marks required to get a good branch in JEE Advanced depend on factors like the difficulty of the paper, the performance of other candidates, and the cutoff ranks for different branches and institutes. Generally, securing a higher rank translates to better chances of getting a preferred branch. It's essential to aim for a rank that aligns with the cutoff ranks of the branches and institutes you are targeting.

i got 73 percentile in jee mains session 1 2024 . ews Category i am qualified for jee advance 2024, and is i am get any nit and what is my rank ??

Satvik 14th Oct, 2024

Hi

hope you doing well

Based on your 73 percentile in JEE Mains 2024 and EWS category, let’s calculate an approximate rank and discuss the possibility of getting into NITs.

So, your CRL (Common Rank List) rank is around 2,51,000.
Since you're under the EWS category, your EWS rank will be roughly 10-12% of CRL rank, i.e., around 25,000 - 30,000.

Core NITs (like NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal, NIT Warangal, etc.):
Getting popular branches (CSE, ECE, Mechanical) is difficult with this percentile.

Lower-ranked NITs and Newer NITs:
You might get branches like Civil, Metallurgy, or Environmental Engineering in newer NITs or NITs in the northeast (like NIT Mizoram, NIT Nagaland, etc.).

Qualified for JEE Advanced 2024: Yes, you are eligible since EWS cutoffs tend to be a bit more lenient.

Getting an NIT: It’s possible but likely through less competitive branches or newer NITs.

Next Steps: Prepare for JEE Advanced if you're interested in IITs or keep a lookout for CSAB counseling for a better shot at an NIT seat.
