Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or GATE is a national-level exam held by IITs and IISc, on behalf of the NCB, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.
This year, IIT Guwahati is the organising body of GATE 2026. The authority will conduct the exam in online mode (CBT). The GATE exam centres will be provided on the official website.
GATE exam is held to test the aspirants' knowledge regarding the subjects studied at the graduate level. The GATE test papers will be based on the subjects - Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture, Commerce, Arts, or Humanities.
GATE scorecard will be valid for three years, starting from the date of result declaration.
As per the GATE 2026 poster, candidates in third or higher years of UG programs related to Engineering, Technology, Science, Architecture, Commerce, Arts or Humanities can take this exam. However, the undergraduate degree program must be recognised by the government.
