QnA related to JEE Advanced

Ask your question related to JEE Advanced

If you crack JEE Mains and appear for JEE Advanced but fail to qualify, you don't need to reappear for JEE Mains.

Your JEE Mains score and rank will remain valid, and you'll be eligible for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs based on your JEE Mains score.

However, if you want to reappear for JEE Advanced, you'll need to reappear for JEE Mains and secure a rank within the top 2.5 lakh candidates to be eligible for JEE Advanced.

Hope it helps!!

The qualifying marks for JEE Advanced vary annually based on factors like exam difficulty and candidate performance. For the 2024 exam, the minimum aggregate percentage required for inclusion in the rank list was 35% for the General category, 31.5% for OBC-NCL/EWS, and 17.5% for SC/ST/PwD candidates. These percentages translate to minimum aggregate scores of 109 for General category candidates and 98 for OBC-NCL/EWS candidates. While the exact cutoff for JEE Advanced 2025 will be determined after the exam, it is anticipated to be in a similar range. Therefore, aiming for an aggregate score of around 35% or higher would be advisable for General category candidates to qualify.

Hello,

The JEE Advanced qualifying cutoff is usually released after the JEE Main April attempt results. Since JEE Advanced is conducted for students who qualify JEE Main, the National Testing Agency (NTA) first declares the JEE Main cutoff for JEE Advanced eligibility along with the April session results. This cutoff determines the minimum percentile required to appear for JEE Advanced. The final qualifying cutoff for JEE Advanced itself, which determines selection for IIT admissions, is released by IITs after the exam results. Therefore, students should wait until the April JEE Main results to know if they are eligible for JEE Advanced.

In JEE Advanced, your OBC rank and CRL (Common Rank List) rank are two separate rankings, and the relationship between them varies each year. While it's not a fixed conversion, historically, an OBC rank of 350 could be roughly equivalent to a CRL rank around 1,500-2,000, though this can fluctuate based on factors like the total number of candidates and their performance.

Here’s a rough way to estimate the CRL rank:

1. Find the Total Number of Candidates: Check how many people appeared for JEE Advanced that year.

2. OBC Category Percentage: Find out how many of those candidates belong to the OBC category.

3. Estimate the CRL Rank: Multiply your OBC rank by the inverse of the OBC percentage.

For example, if OBC candidates make up about 50% of the total candidates, your CRL rank could be roughly double your OBC rank, so an OBC rank of 350 could translate to a CRL rank of about 700.

However, this is just an approximation. The actual CRL rank can vary each year based on the specific distribution and performance of candidates. It’s always best to refer to the official JEE Advanced resources or speak with academic advisors for the most accurate information.

Hello Siddhi,

Admission to the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, for the Bachelor of Science (Research) program primarily depends on your performance in various national-level entrance exams such as JEE Main, JEE Advanced, KVPY, and NEET-UG. For the BS program, IISc accepts JEE Main scores, making it a crucial exam for students applying through this route.

If you perform well in JEE Main but not in JEE Advanced, it won’t necessarily affect your chances of getting into IISc for the BS (Research) program, as JEE Advanced scores are not required for this specific course. IISc’s admission criteria for the BS program focus on JEE Main performance, and many students have successfully gained admission based on their JEE Main ranks. However, for other courses and programs, JEE Advanced may be a requirement, and a lower score in JEE Advanced could impact your eligibility for those programs.

It’s important to keep in mind that IISc establishes specific cutoff ranks for each entrance exam, and these cutoffs change every year based on the number of applicants and available seats. For instance, last year’s cutoff ranks for JEE Main ranged from 241 to 353 for the BS (Research) program. This range can provide insight into the competition, and aiming for a high score in JEE Main is essential for securing admission.

In summary, while achieving a good score in JEE Main is enough to gain admission to the BS (Research) program at IISc, a lower score in JEE Advanced will not necessarily affect your admission, provided you excel in JEE Main. However, doing well in JEE Main will enhance your chances of obtaining a favourable rank and securing a place in this esteemed institution.

Hello aspirant,
