Deciding to switch from CISCE board to a CBSE school for cracking JEE in Class 11 depends on various factors. While the CBSE syllabus aligns more closely with JEE curriculum, transitioning involves adapting to a new system and syllabus, which might initially pose challenges. However, CBSE's focus on JEE preparation through its curriculum and resources can be advantageous. Consider factors such as your comfort with the ICSE system, your ability to adapt, the quality of coaching available, and your determination to excel in JEE. Ultimately, choose a path that suits your learning style and goals best.

According to the eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced, the candidates must have appeared in Class 12th and scored 75% aggregate marks. For the first time, you appeared in the CBSE Class 12 board exam in 2024, and in 2025, you appeared in the 12th examination from the NIOS board and scored 75%. Since NIOS is a recognised board, and you fulfil the aggregate marks, you are eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2026 .

The minimum percentage required to take admission in the science stream for class 11 can be between 45% to 65%. The eligibility criteria for admission in the Science stream are generally based on the requirements of the school. Private schools may require 70% or higher marks for admission, and some government schools require 50% to 60% marks.

Hello Aspirant,

The eligibility criteria of jee mains are as follows -

  • Candidates should pass from any recognised board or University in their class 12th.
  • Candidates should opt for physics chemistry and mathematics as mandatory subjects in their class 12th.
  • Candidates should secure a minimum of 75 percentage in their class 12th.

If you fulfill the above eligibility criterias then only you are eligible to sit for jee mains.

If you passed 12th in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) in 2023, you need to study PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Math) to be eligible for BTech in IIT Bombay through JEE Advanced. You can join 12th again with PCM subjects in 2024 and appear for JEE Main and Advanced after passing. This way, you become eligible because math is compulsory for engineering. So yes, you can do 12th again with PCM and then try for IIT through JEE. Keep working hard!

Hello,
According to your score 20 percentile in JEE mains , your rank will be under 1000000 . With this rank it is impossible to get any of the NITs or IIITs or CFTIs. Percentile indicates how many students have been outperformed by you in exam. Top 20 percentile means that you are ahead of 80% of the people. Percentile scores range from the 1st through 99th percentile, indicating the percentage of scores in the comparison group which are lower than the test taker's score. Generally the students are required to score more than 75% or above to enter to the top 20 percentile of their respective boards just to be eligible for joint entrance examination(JEE). Usually the cutoff marks for the general category students goes to 66-68%, for OBC 65-66% ,for SC 63% ,for ST 62.5% . Percentile ranks are often expressed as a number between 1 and 99, with 50 being the average. So if a student scored a percentile rank of 87, it would mean that they performed better than 87% of the other students in his norm group. There is no qualification criteria for giving JEE. For JEE you must have passed your class 12 board examination. But, to get admission into NIT/ IIT you'll have to be in the top 20 percentile of the boards.
In 2019, general category cutoff stood at 66.8%, fo 65.2% for other backward class (OBC), 63% for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 62.8% for Scheduled Tribes (ST).
So, usually for general category the percentage falls between 65-72. The official percentile data has not been declared by JOSAA yet.

Hello Alka

For JEE Advance, the best 5 subjects through which you need to calculate your percentage is:

1. Physics
2. Chemistry
3. Mathematics
4. One language (which is English)
5. One other subject of your choice

So you will need to choose PCM + English + a 5th subject to calculate your percentage.

Hope this answer helps! Thank You!!!

Hello!

In JEE Advanced eligibility, the top 5 subjects from your board exam are considered. Usually, they are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and any two other subjects from the main curriculum. If CMS is your optional subject and IT is an additional subject, the board will still calculate based on the 5 highest marks from your eligible subjects. Additional subjects are considered only if they replace a lower score from another subject. For example, if IT has a higher score than English or CMS, then IT can be counted. However, some boards follow strict rules where only main subjects are counted, so you must verify with your board’s official notification. The 75% criteria means your average percentage in those best 5 subjects must meet the requirement. My advice—list all your subjects, arrange them from highest to lowest marks, and take the top five as per rules.

Hope this clears your doubt!
