Biology is not that compulsory for giving Vellore Institute of Technology Entrance Examination. The candidate must have scored at least 60% marks in the aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the previous qualifying examination. However there is a huge difference for reserved categories that they have to score only 50% marks in the previous qualifying examination for being eligible for the examination.
but if you want to study biomedical engineering you should take biology for viteee.

As your rank in VIT is not that good i would say not to opt for it. However you can get cse specialisations in category 3 and there is a good chance to change your branch in 2nd year.
I would suggest you to go for comedk colleges as you have a good rank there and can take up cse branch there even if you don't get in the top 5 colleges because the cost in course four years of B.tech is less in the Bangalore colleges rather than VIT Vellore and SRM University.

So, with regard of you're query. In Campus Vellore, You cannot receive a CSE branch in any category with a rank of 31340, but you may get an IT, ECE, EE, or civil branch in category 4 or category 5. This data is derived from VIT Vellore's closing rank from the previous year.
