see if you want to study in aerospace engineering course, then you need to apply for gate exam  from  aerospace engineering department, and you need to have a btech degree or you must be in final year of btech degree course in any stream  to apply for gate exam

If you are in Mechanical branch and preparing for GATE, the most important part is your core subjects. Lay more stress on those.
