QnA related to JEE Main

Ask your question related to JEE Main

With a 71 percentile and an OBC rank of 1.5 lakh in JEE Main, your chances of getting into IGDTUW, NSUT, or IPU are generally low, especially for competitive branches like CSE. While NSUT and IGDTUW are more likely to offer seats to Delhi OBC candidates, your rank may fall outside the acceptable range for the most sought-after programs

If you have secured an EWS rank of 45930 in JEE Mains, your chances of getting into the top National Institutes of Technology (NITs) or Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) may be slightly difficult under the All India Quota, especially for popular branches like Computer Science or Electronics. However, you still have good chances in some newer NITs, IIITs, and Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) depending on your preferred branch, home state quota, and category reservation.

Here are some colleges where you may have a chance for admission:

  1. Newer NITs such as NIT Mizoram, NIT Nagaland, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Puducherry, etc. – You may get lower-demand branches like Civil or Mechanical.

  2. IIITs such as IIIT Bhagalpur, IIIT Una, IIIT Kurnool, and other newer IIITs.

  3. GFTIs like Assam University Silchar, Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, or other state-level colleges that accept JEE Main scores.

Since you belong to the EWS category, you have the benefit of reservation which increases your chances. You should also apply through JoSAA counselling and select as many choices as possible during the option filling. This increases your chances of getting at least one decent college.

Extra tip : Keep an eye on spot round counselling and CSAB rounds after the main JoSAA rounds. Many students leave seats, and you may grab a better college during those rounds. Also, explore state counselling processes where your JEE rank can get you a better local college

Hello,

No, you should not give different income details in JEE Main and AKTU counselling forms. It’s important to be honest and consistent with the information you provide.

If you wrote 3 to 4 lakh for your parental income in JEE Main, you should not show less than 1 lakh in AKTU counselling . Giving wrong information can cause problems later, like cancellation of admission.

Hope it helps !

If your JEE Main rank is around 446126, getting a seat in top government colleges like NITs, IIITs, or GFTIs is highly unlikely, especially under the general category or for popular branches like Computer Science or Electronics. However, do not lose hope yet. You still have a few options depending on your category, state quota, and preferred branch .

If you belong to a reserved category like SC, ST, or OBC , or EWS, you still might have some chances in lesser competitive colleges, especially under your home state quota . For example, some state government engineering colleges in Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh accept JEE Main scores and offer seats to students with higher ranks through their state counselling process.

Another thing you can do is apply through JoSAA and CSAB counselling rounds . In CSAB special rounds , many students leave seats, and you may get lucky with leftover seats in some government-funded colleges — especially in branches like Civil Engineering, Metallurgy, or Textile Engineering.

Extra tip : Don't just focus on JEE-based admissions. Look for state-level entrance exams or even private universities that offer scholarships for students who appeared in JEE. Colleges like SRM, VIT, or Amrita might provide you partial scholarships too.

Also, consider improving your preparation and giving JEE again next year if you’re passionate about getting into a better college.

So, while chances are limited for central govt colleges at this rank, there is still a pathway — be flexible and use all the options available.

With an 11 lakh rank in JEE Mains, it’s quite difficult to get a seat in top-tier NITs or IIITs. However, you can still try for:

  • State-level government colleges through your state quota

  • Private colleges with government fee structure (some have lower cutoffs)

  • Colleges offering seats through CSAB (Special Round) — you might find options there with open seats.

Also, consider diploma to degree (lateral entry) after 3 years in polytechnic, or explore state CETs where competition is slightly lower.

A JEE Main percentile of 90.084 might make it challenging to secure Computer Science Engineering (CSE) in top-tier colleges, but it's still possible in some NITs like NIT Meghalaya, NIT Puducherry Karaikal and private institutions. With a 90 percentile, you're more likely to get into specializations like Civil, Mechanical, Electronics & Communication, and Chemical Engineering.

The JEE Main cutoff for admission varies from one university to another and also depends on several factors such as the category of the candidate (General, OBC, SC, ST, etc.), gender, and the specific branch of engineering. In Tamil Nadu, most engineering colleges accept admissions through their state-level entrance exams, but some reputed institutions do consider JEE Main scores for admission, especially under All India Quota or Management Quota.

Here are the top 5 universities in Tamil Nadu that consider JEE Main scores to some extent or are preferred by students preparing for national-level engineering exams:

1. Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) - Although admissions here are through JEE Advanced, only those who qualify JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.

2. National Institute of Technology Trichy (NIT Trichy) - NIT Trichy is one of the best NITs in India. It accepts JEE Main scores, and the cutoff varies each year. For general category students, the cutoff is usually between 5000 to 15000 rank depending on the branch. For OBC, SC, and ST categories, the cutoffs are slightly relaxed.

3. Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham - Offers admission through JEE Main as well as its own entrance test. The JEE Main cutoff varies each year.

4. Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) - Primarily conducts its own exam (VITEEE) but also accepts JEE Main scores for some programs.

5. SRM Institute of Science and Technology - Similar to VIT, SRM accepts both JEE Main and SRMJEEE scores for admission.

Since cutoffs differ based on caste category, it is advisable to refer to the JoSAA or college-specific counselling portals for the exact cutoff rank for your caste and course preference.

Hello Aditya,

with a 62.75 percentile and 570018 rank in JEE Mains, getting into NITs or IIITs is unlikely even with category benefit. you can explore state engineering colleges through state level counseling like REAP in Rajasthan or private colleges like LPU, Amity, etc. also consider management quota or diploma to degree options if you're open to alternatives.

Securing admission to the B.Tech program at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) is highly unlikely.

JMI primarily reserves its B.Tech seats for Muslim applicants under various subcategories, as it is a Muslim minority institution. There are limited seats available for non-Muslim candidates, and these are typically filled based on the Common Rank List (CRL) rather than category-specific ranks. For instance, in previous years, the closing CRL ranks for general category candidates in B.Tech programs ranged from approximately 15,766 to 73,279, depending on the branch

Hello,

For JEE Main candidates looking for private colleges in Indore offering payment (management) seats, you can explore private engineering colleges like IPS Academy, Acropolis Institute of Technology & Research, and Shri G.S. Institute of Technology & Science.

These colleges offer management quota seats where admission can be taken by paying the specified fees. It’s best to contact the college admission offices directly or visit their official websites for detailed fee structure and seat availability.
