QnA related to JEE Main

Ask your question related to JEE Main

Hello,

Securing admission to Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, or Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR), Bhubaneswar, with a JEE Main rank of 4.5 lakh under the ex-servicemen quota is challenging, especially for sought-after branches like Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Information Technology (IT), and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE).

Understanding the Ex-Servicemen Quota: The ex-servicemen quota is typically a horizontal reservation, meaning it cuts across various categories such as General, OBC, SC, and ST. Since you belong to the OBC category, your admission would be considered within the OBC category with the ex-servicemen reservation applied.

VSSUT, Burla: Specific cutoff ranks for the ex-servicemen quota are not readily available. However, general trends indicate that highly sought-after branches like CSE have much lower cutoff ranks. For instance, the expected cutoff for CSE is between 47,176 and 47,181 for general category students. Given your rank, securing admission in top branches at VSSUT may be difficult. https://www.careers360.com/

OUTR (formerly CET), Bhubaneswar: Similarly, detailed cutoff information for the ex-servicemen quota at OUTR is limited. Previous data suggests that the closing rank for B.Tech in Civil Engineering was around 244,549 for general category students. This indicates that less competitive branches may have higher cutoff ranks, but a rank of 4.5 lakh still poses a significant challenge.

Recommendations:

  1. Explore State Counseling: Participate in the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) counseling process, as state-level counseling may offer more opportunities, especially under specific quotas.

  2. Consider Alternative Institutions: Research other engineering colleges in Odisha and neighboring states that may have higher cutoff ranks, increasing your chances of admission.

  3. Look into Management Quotas: Some private institutions offer management quota seats, which might have different eligibility criteria.

  4. Prepare for Spot Rounds: Stay informed about spot or mop-up round counseling sessions, where unfilled seats are offered, sometimes with relaxed cutoff ranks.

  5. Evaluate Other Engineering Disciplines: Be open to enrolling in engineering branches that are less competitive, as they may have higher cutoff ranks.

Hello,

Yes, you will be eligible for JoSAA counseling in 2026 if you meet the following conditions:

JoSAA Eligibility Rules

  • JEE Main Qualification – You must qualify JEE Main 2026 with a valid rank.

  • 12th Board Exam Qualification – Your improvement exam in 2026 will be considered, and your latest marks will be valid for eligibility.

  • Minimum Percentage Requirement

For NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs , you need at least 75% marks (65% for SC/ST) in the 12th board exam OR be in the top 20 percentile of your board.

For IITs , you need to qualify JEE Advanced and meet the 75% (or top 20 percentile) rule.

Important Notes:

  • JoSAA considers the latest board exam result for eligibility.

  • Since you will be appearing for an improvement exam in 2026 , your 2026 marks will be considered for eligibility, not your 2025 results.

  • You must ensure that your improvement exam covers all subjects , as JoSAA does not accept partial improvements (only in some subjects).

Hello,

Unfortunately, you are not eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2025 even if you qualify JEE Mains.

Why?

The eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced state that a candidate can attempt the exam only twice in consecutive years after passing Class 12.

  • Since you passed Class 12 in 2023 , your two chances to write JEE Advanced were in 2023 and 2024 (provided you qualified JEE Mains).

  • You skipped JEE Advanced in both years, which means you are no longer eligible for JEE Advanced 2025 .

What Can You Do?

  1. Focus on JEE Mains: You can still get into NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs if you score well in JEE Mains.

  2. Consider Private or State Engineering Colleges: Many top private colleges accept JEE Main scores or conduct their own entrance exams (e.g., BITS Pilani, VIT, SRM, Manipal, etc.).

  3. Explore Other Career Options: If you are open to different career paths, you can consider other entrance exams or alternative fields.

Hi misha.

For jee 2026 first thing you can do is checkout previous year question paper and then firstly analyse the topics priority wise.

Create a study plan so that you can divide your subjects as per no of hours and your strengths and weakness.

You can join a good coaching platform so that you can build your concepts and get guided as per doubts.

Thanks.

Yes, you are eligible for both JEE Mains 2026 and JEE Advanced 2026 because:

  • JEE Mains : You can attempt for 3 years after 12th (2024, 2025, 2026).

  • JEE Advanced : You get 2 consecutive attempts (2025 & 2026).

So, if you don’t qualify for Advanced in 2025, you still have a chance in 2026.

All the best!!
