The percentage required is 75%(overall)*, which should include PCM+English and additional subject. If one has qualified the above criteria then he/she is egligble for both NITs and IITs.

*-this percentage is required for general/OBC students whereas for other it's 65%.

For VIT Vellore Campus Mechanical Engineering, the predicted cutoff accroding to previous year cutoffs can be around rank 18000-19000. For VIT Chennai campus, cutoff for mechanical engineering would be around rank 39000.

Both VIT and SRM has proved themselves as well established engineering institutes in India. Though, VIT gained recognition bit more than SRM but still the potential in both the colleges are same. Both are good and the placement scenario is average like any new IIT or average NIT.
