According to the trends based on previous year trends if you get rank around 5000 then you may get a good branch under general category. But for top 5 IITs you must be under 1000-1500 rank for a good branch in any of the IIT.

Once registration is done it can't be changed. It's a strict rule from the board. So in any way there can't be any changes in your registration or in your rank list. If you are not satisfied for this year marks then you have to go for next year.
