Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering
Hi aspirant,
Yes, you are eligible to apply for the GATE exam . GATE is generally used for admission to postgraduate programs such as MTech, M.E., and M.Sc. at top institutes in India, as well as for recruitment in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
By clearing GATE, you can pursue a relevant course. Since you mentioned that you already have a B.Sc. degree in Computer Science, a Master's program in Computer Science and Technology would be an excellent fit for you.
Here are the eligibility criteria to participate in GATE:
- Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in science.
- You can also apply if you are in your third year.
- There is no minimum percentage requirement.
- There is no age limit.
Here is a guide for you to prepare for the upcoming gate exam:

Good luck with your application!
Unfortunately, you cannot use your last year’s GATE marks of 30.33 for admissions or PSU applications this year. Although your score was higher than this year’s cutoff (24), it didn’t meet the cutoff for the year you appeared (35), so it’s not considered a qualified score .
GATE scores are valid for 3 years , but only if you qualified in that particular year by crossing the cutoff. Since you didn’t qualify last year and also scored below the cutoff this year (18), neither attempt can be used for M.Tech admissions or stipend eligibility.
To be eligible for admissions or fellowships, you must score equal to or above the cutoff in the same year you are applying. So, even though your 30.33 seems good now, it doesn’t help unless it was above the cutoff when you took the exam.
Your best option is to prepare again and aim to clear the cutoff next year.
Hello,
Thapar Institute of engineering and Technology (TIET) reserves 50% of its seats for candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from schools located in punjab you are 11th and 12th grades in punjab, you are eligible for the punjab state quota at TIET regardless of your permanent residency. this quota provides an advantage in the admission process for candidates who have studied imm punjab.
With a GATE score of 549 in Data Science, you've got a decent chance at some good colleges, especially the National Institutes of Technology (NITs). Keep in mind that cutoffs can change each year depending on how many people apply and how tough the exam was.
For NITs, you could look at places like NIT Warangal, NIT Trichy, and NIT Surathkal. They often have M.Tech programs in Data Science or related fields like AI that might be within your score range. Some of the newer IITs, like IIT Guwahati, IIT Jodhpur, and IIT Hyderabad, also offer M.Tech in Data Science or AI and could be possibilities.
Don't just focus on the top IITs though. Check out other well-regarded government and even some private colleges that accept GATE scores for their Data Science programs. Places like the University of Hyderabad or IIIT Bangalore (though their cutoffs might be a bit higher) are worth looking into.
Your best bet is to check the specific admission websites of these colleges. They'll have the most up-to-date information on their GATE score cutoffs for Data Science programs. Good luck with your applications!
With a GATE score of 549 in Data Science, you have good chances of getting into several reputed institutes. Here are some colleges where you can apply:
Top Institutes with Data Science/AI Programs
1. IIT Hyderabad – M.Tech in Data Science or AI
2. IIT Guwahati – M.Tech in Data Science
3. IIT Jodhpur – M.Tech in AI and Data Science
4. IIIT Hyderabad – M.Tech in Computer Science and Information Security (with Data Science electives)
5. IIIT Bangalore – M.Tech in Data Science
6. NIT Warangal / NIT Trichy / NIT Surathkal – M.Tech in Data Science or AI
7. University of Hyderabad – M.Tech in Data Science
With a GATE score of 549 in Data Science (DA) , you can target several reputed institutes for M.Tech admissions, though top IITs may be out of reach for general category candidates.
Newer IITs (like IIT Jodhpur, IIT Bhilai) may consider this score, especially for reserved categories.
Top NITs (like NIT Trichy, Warangal, Surathkal) offer Data Science or AI programs, and your score is competitive for some of them.
IIITs like IIIT Bangalore and IIIT Hyderabad have DS programs. While IIIT-H conducts its own entrance, IIIT-B accepts GATE.
Other universities (e.g., University of Hyderabad, DTU, JNU) also offer good programs in Data Science and often have lower cutoffs.
Check institute websites for past cutoffs and eligibility.
Apply via CCMT portal for NITs and through COAP for IITs.
Consider category reservations if applicable.
Keep backups like state universities and IIITs in mind.
Your score is decent for several good institutes—apply smartly and widely to improve your chances!
A minor spelling mistake in your father's name on the GATE 2025 scorecard is usually not a major issue, and colleges generally do not reject applications solely for this reason. However, to avoid any complications, you should be ready with an affidavit stating the correct name.
When and How to Show the Affidavit :-
If the institute specifically asks for a correction, they might request the affidavit during document verification.
Some colleges may ask you to upload it during the online application process.
If there is no option to upload it, carry the affidavit and other supporting documents during the physical verification process.
You can also email the concerned authority of the respective institute if required.
What to Mention in the Affidavit :-
A statement that both names belong to the same person (your father).
Your correct details and the GATE 2025 scorecard reference.
Signature and attestation from a notary or gazetted officer .
Also, you will be eligible for IITs and NITs as long as all other details are correct. This minor mistake should not lead to rejection if you provide proper clarification during document verification.
Hope it helps !

IITs and IISc offering Life Sciences through GATE:
1. IISc Bangalore – M.Sc. in Life Sciences (GATE accepted).
2. IIT Kanpur – M.Tech in Life Sciences (GATE required for regular candidates).
Your GATE score of 508 (EWS) makes you eligible for these programs. Consider applying to IISc and IIT Kanpur.
IITs generally offer M.Sc. in Life Sciences through IIT JAM, not GATE. However, IISc Bangalore accepts GATE scores for its M.Sc. programs.
With a GATE score of 508 (EWS), check IISc’s official website for cutoffs and eligibility. Some IITs may offer interdisciplinary M.Tech programs accepting GATE scores—explore their admissions pages for details.
