see both of the exam is conducts for m.tech or post graduate courses , however gate exam is widely accepted in top tier 1 m.tech colleges like IITS, nits, iiest, iisc bangalore. however you must go through the syllabus  and make your strategies. gate questions papers is quite tougher

I haven't gone through the gate application form yet so cannot be sure whether muslim category is mentioned or not .But reservation is there of obc non creamy layer .So if you are muslim and comes under obc ncl category then you can get the benefits of reservation.non
