To get into prestigious IIts, first and foremost your ranks should be under 10,000 and for that  ascore of above 210 is considered safe for entry into all the IIts with JEEadvanced.

Your rank needs to be in top 2.24 lakh from  all students who appear for JEE main 2018 to qualify for JEE advanced.

As per 2017 cutoff criteria, the closing rank in IIT BHU for Chemical Engineering is 5900 for general category.

For your information the cutoff varies for all branches and reserved categories.

Dropping  ayear is seriously not recommended, as it can have serious repurcussions once you graduate and go for job interviews where you need to showcase your year gaps.
