Q: Can a student with backlogs in the qualifying exam appear in GATE 2025?
Ans: Candidates with backlogs can apply for GATE 2025 using the marks sheet for the final semesters (anyone) of your B.Tech/ graduation. However, you will have to clear your backlog by the time admissions in M.Tech commence.
Q: I am pursuing B.Sc. am I eligible to appear in GATE 2025?
Ans: From the 2021 session onwards, the authorities have introduced various changes in GATE. According to this, a 3-year graduation is also valid.
Q: Can I appear for GATE 2025 if I have completed my B.Tech in Fire Engineering?
Ans: Yes, you can appear for GATE 2025 but you have to choose your GATE paper carefully.
Q: I have passed my degree in 2025. I don’t have my Degree Certificate but I have a Provisional Certificate. Will that be enough?
Ans: Yes, that would be enough. As per the eligibility criteria of GATE 2025, you need any one of the following documents while applying for GATE - degree certificate/ provisional certificate/ course completion certificate/ professional certificate/ membership certificate issued by the society or institute, where you have completed your last education.
Q: I have completed my B.Tech with 50%. Am I eligible for GATE 2025?
Ans: To appear for the GATE 2025 exam, there are no specific pass percentage criteria. The pass percentage matters during M.Tech admissions as some IITs ask for 60% and above, while some don't. Most PSUs ask for 60% and above.
Q: I have completed my graduation through distance learning. Do you think I can apply for GATE 2025?
Ans: Yes, you can very much apply for the GATE 2025 exam. Please make sure that the course based on which you are applying must be recognised by AICTE.
Q: I am a Postgraduate. Can I appear for GATE 2025? What are the documents I need to upload while applying?
Ans: In your case, you will have to upload the documents related to the relevant qualifying degree while filling the application form. Candidates can check the complete list of documents required for GATE 2025 online.
Q: I belong to OBC category and therefore want to upload my category certificate but I can't find any option to upload the certificate. What to do?
Ans: It is because a category certificate for the OBC candidates is not needed while applying for GATE 2025. The category certificate is used to ascertain the concession offered in the application fee. The OBC certificate would be needed while taking admission using GATE scores.
Q: I graduated in 2025 but I do not have my degree certificate or provisional certificate. What document should I upload to prove that I am eligible for GATE 2025?
Ans: You can upload a copy of your final year mark sheet OR a declaration from your college Principal (or other competent authority) along with the signature and seal.
Q: Is there any age limit to appear for GATE 2025?
Ans: No, there is no age limit to appear for GATE 2025.
Q: Are there any restrictions on the number of times one can appear for GATE?
Ans: No, one can appear for the GATE examination any number of times.
Q: Can I appear in any of the GATE 2025 papers?
Ans: Although the candidate is free to choose any of the papers (up to two from the given combinations), the candidate should select a paper appropriate to the discipline of the qualifying degree.
Q: How do I apply for GATE 2025 online?
Ans: To apply for GATE 2025 in online mode, candidates have to visit the official website gate 2025.iitr.ac.in. Click on the "apply now" link. Applicants have to generate their login by registering on the GATE GOAPS login portal to fill out the application form.
Q: Can I use one e-mail address to fill multiple application forms?
Ans: No, one e-mail address can be used to submit only one application form.
Q: Do I need to fill two forms to appear in two papers?
Ans: No, the two-paper option may be selected based on the given set of combinations in a single form only.
Q: Why should I choose three examination cities?
Ans: The candidates will most likely be allotted a centre in the examination city of their first choice. Only in cases, where there are too many candidates opting for a certain city as their first choice, the other two choices become relevant. The candidates are required to fill their choices of cities to appear in the examination, but should remember that because of operational constraints, the GATE committee reserves the right to add a new city or remove an existing one, and allot a city that may not be any of the choices of a candidate.
Q: What do I do, if the power/internet connection failed during the submission of application process?
Ans: Please login to your account at the GATE 2025 website again and continue the application process.
Q: Does the OBC (non-creamy layer) or EWS candidate need to upload the category certificate?
Ans: No.
Q: Does the SC/ST/PwD candidate need to upload the category certificate?
Ans: Yes, category certificate is required to avail the concession in application fee.
Q: How do I make the fee payment for GATE 2025 examination?
Ans: The payment option will appear after filling the online application form in GATE 2025 website. The candidate can opt for any of the payment options listed over there. The additional charges such as service charges, processing fees or bank charges, have to be borne by the candidate.
Q: How much fee should I pay to appear in two papers of GATE 2025 examination?
Ans: Candidates appearing for two papers in GATE 2025 have to twice the application fee. The GATE 2025 examination fee for female and reserved categories will be Rs. 1800 and Rs. 3600 for all other candidates.
Q: What is the fee for candidates with foreign nationality/NRIs?
Ans: The fee for foreign nationals is Rs 1800 for a single paper.
Q: What is the fee for candidates with Indian nationality appearing at International centres?
Ans: GATE 2025 will be conducted only in centres within India. It will not be conducted in centres outside India. Foreign nationals and Indian citizens residing abroad may appear for GATE 2025 by paying the full application fee, but they must choose examination cities within India. They must make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation to appear for the exam at an assigned centre within India.
Q: What do I do, if power/Internet connection failed during an online payment?
Ans: When you can get back online, log back to GATE 2025 website and check the status of the payment. If the payment was received by GATE, you can continue the process of printing the application form. If the payment was not received by GATE 2025, you may initiate a fresh payment.In case, any fee amount has been debited (deducted) from your bank account, but not received any acknowledgement for fee payment from GATE 2025, then the money will be credited back to your account. However, this may take a week or more.
Q: Money has been debited from my account more than once. How do I get the money back?
Ans: All multiple payments received on behalf of GATE 2025 from your account with respect to one application, will automatically be returned (credited) to the same bank account. However, this may take a week or more.
Q: Do I have to send the print-out of the application form?
Ans: No. The print-out of the application form is not required to be sent to the organising institute or any other GATE zonal offices.
Q: When and how will I know the status of my application?
Ans: You can check the status of your application by logging into GATE 2025 website from time to time.
Q: After completing the online application process and generating a PDF file, will I be able to change my application data?
Ans: No. After completing all the steps up to PDF application form generation in the online application process, you can only download the application form and cannot modify the data. Hence, you need to be very careful while entering the data.
Q: I have missed to take a print-out of my online application at the end of my application process. How will I get access to it?
Ans: You can log in using your enrolment ID and password and take a print-out for your own reference. The print-out must not be sent to GATE organising institute or zonal office.
Q: If I have not uploaded photograph/signature as per the specifications mentioned, will my application be rejected?
Ans: Your application will be marked defective. You will be intimated by email, SMS or phone call from your respective zone to rectify your defect (by uploading a new photograph). You will be given chances for rectification up to the deadline, beyond which your application will either be considered as provisional or rejected.
Q: Which Identity Document (ID) will be accepted in the application form?
Ans: For Indian candidates, the following valid photo identification documents/cards will be accepted: Aadhaar-UID (preferable), Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID and Driving License. For foreign nationals, documents like valid Passport, any other valid photo ID issued by their government, Driving License is acceptable.
Q: Is there a relaxation in qualifying mark and fee for the EWS (Economically weaker section) candidates?
Ans: The application fee for EWS candidates is the same as that of General candidates, however, the qualifying mark is 90% as that of the General candidates.
Q: What will happen if I am not able to produce EWS certificate at the time of admission/counselling etc.?
Ans: GATE has nothing to do with subsequent admission or recruitment process.
Q: Do I have to upload my EWS certificate during the application process?
Ans: No.
Q: I want to take TWO papers from the two papers combination. However, while filling online form I have added only one paper and made the payment. Can I add the second paper to the same enrolment ID?
Ans: Immediately after making the payment you will not be able to add the second paper. However, you can add the second paper in a given time duration at a later stage by paying an additional fee per change in your application.
Q: I want to take two papers from the two papers combination. However, while filling online form I have added only one paper and made the payment. Can I create a new enrolment ID for two papers?
Ans: You can create a new enrolment ID wherein you can opt for a permitted two papers combination. However, note that your previously created ID with single paper will be rejected at later stage and no fees will be refunded for the rejected application.
Q: I have requested for examination city change with the new city/cities by paying additional fee. Will I get the new city added?
Ans: It is not ensured that you will get the newly added city only. You will get one of the cities out of three choices given depending upon the availability of the seats in that city.
Q: My photograph and Photo ID are exchanged in the application while registering online. Will my application be rejected?
Ans: Your application will be marked defective. You will be intimated by email, SMS or phone call from your respective zone to rectify your defect (by uploading the correct images). You will be given chances for rectification up to a deadline, beyond which your application will either be considered as provisional or rejected.
Q: What part of the photo ID should be uploaded?
Ans: The part of the photo ID with your photo and your details like name, date of birth (DOB) and ID number should be uploaded. If the details are spread over two pages (that is, backside of the Photo ID) then both (front and backside) pages must be uploaded.
Q: I want to withdraw my application. Will my application fee be refunded?
Ans: No, the GATE application fee is non-refundable.
Q: I have more than 12-15 years older Aadhar card as my photo ID. Can I use it to complete the application registration?
Ans: The photo ID is supposed to have a recent photo so that the identity of the candidate can be matched against the photo ID card during the examination. If your facial features are difficult to match with your photo ID, then your candidature may be marked as a doubtful identity during the examination. Hence, the candidate must upload the photo ID which bears the recent photo.
Q: I have uploaded Aadhar Card as my photo ID but entered the PAN Card number in place of ID Number (or vice-versa). Will my application be rejected?
Ans: Your application will be marked defective. You will be intimated by e-mail, SMS or phone call from your respective Zone to rectify your defect by either uploading the correct image of the photo ID or making the correction in ID Number field. You will be given chances for rectification up to a deadline, beyond which your application will either be considered as provisional or rejected.
Q: I have chosen a wrong paper. Can I make correction to the application form to the paper?
Ans: Immediately after completion of the application form you will not be able to make any changes to it. However, you can change the paper in a given time duration at a later stage by paying an additional fee per change in your application. See important dates for GATE 2025.
Q: There is a spelling mistake in my name and my application has been marked as defective. Can I make corrections in my name spelling?
Ans: Immediately after completion of the application form you will not be able to make any changes to it. However, you can make corrections in a given time duration at a later stage by furnishing supporting documents.
Q. I want to use my new name taken after the marriage. I have photo ID with older name. Will my application be rejected?
Ans: You can upload the photo ID with old name along with an affidavit. Otherwise, your application will either be considered as provisional or rejected. Also, you should carry an affidavit along with the photo ID in the examination hall.
Q: What are GATE zonal centres and how will I know about mine?
Ans: The zonal centres of GATE 2025 are the IITs which are given the responsibility of coordinating with IIT Roorkee for each region as specified. The GATE 2025 zonal centre will be the IIT under which your exam centre will be listed. You can reach your zonal IIT for any of your queries and concerns related to the admit card or application form.
Q: Why should I choose three examination cities while filling GATE application form?
Ans: It is because a candidate will most likely be allotted a GATE exam centre in the city of his or her first choice. In cases, where there would be too many candidates opting for a certain city as their first choice, the other two choices will be relevant.
While filling out the choices of cities, you must remember that because of operational constraints, the GATE 2025 committee reserves all the right to add a new city or remove an existing one and allot a city that may not be any of the choices you made. Q: Can I change my mobile no. or Email ID after I have submitted my GATE 2025 Application Form?
Ans: No, you cannot change the registered mobile number or email ID.
Q: I have made some mistakes while filling out the application of GATE 2025. How to correct them?
Ans: You can change the following during the GATE application form correction facility - name, date of birth, name of parent/ guardian, qualifying degree, year of qualifying degree. The correction can be done after logging into your GOAPS account.
Q: Can I change my GATE 2025 exam city after submission of my GATE Application Form?
Ans: Yes. You can request a change of examination city with an additional fee to be paid online using GOAPS.
Q: I have selected the wrong paper, e.g., I have selected PH in my GATE application and want to write PE. What should I do?
Ans: You need to fill out a new application with a new email address (mobile number can be the same) and choose the correct exam paper. Please note that no refund will be made for the incorrect application. Change of exam paper can also be done during the correction period.
Q: I want to change my category in my GATE Application Form. What should I do?
Ans: To change your category, you will have to log into GOAPS and click on "change personal data". Change your category and verify the details before submitting. After you submit the necessary changes, you will be directed to pay the additional fee which is Rs 750 in case of category change from SC/ ST to General/ OBC (not applicable to female and PwD candidates). The additional fee will be non-refundable.
Q: My application status of GATE shows "Under Scrutiny". What does it mean?
Ans: IIT Roorkee will check the GATE 2025 applications for any discrepancies, or defects in photographs or signatures. If the status shows "Under Scrutiny" it is fine. Once they will check all the details, the status will be changed to "Successful Submission".
Q: How will I know that there are some defects in my GATE application form?
Ans: Candidates will receive a mail regarding defects in their application forms and their status will reflect the same. Once rectified, the application status will reflect"Under Scrutiny" till it gets cleared by IIT Madras.
Q: In the GATE application form, the guardian's name appears as the parent’s name. How to resolve it?
Ans: Don't worry. The name will be recorded correctly in the database. It is always mentioned as the Parent’s/ Guardian’s name.
Q: When will I receive my GATE Admit Card?
Ans: IIT Roorkee will release the GATE admit card online on January 2, 2025. Candidates have to provide the application number and password to download the admit card of GATE 2025
Q: In my GATE 2025 Admit Card, my college address is blank.
Ans: You need to mail your concern to your zonal IIT with a copy of the admit card.
Q: My photograph is blurred in the GATE Admit Card 2025. What should I do?
Ans: You immediately mail your concern to your zonal IIT with a copy of the admit card.
Q: My signature is not visible in the signature box on the admit card. What should I do?
Ans: You should call your IIT zonal centre. You will have to submit your admit card along with the confirmation page.
Q: Carrying GATE 2025 admit card to the examination hall would be enough?
Ans: No. It would not be. You will have to carry original and valid photo identification proof, whose details you have entered while filling the GATE 2025 application form along with a print-out of the downloaded admit card to the exam hall. You will not be permitted to take the exam if original and valid photo identification proof is not presented. Indian candidates need to carry an admit card along with any one of the following as photo ID proof - Passport, PAN card, Voter ID, Aadhaar-UID, College ID, Employee ID and Driving License. International Candidates need to carry an admit card along with any one of the following - a valid Passport/ Government issued ID/ College ID/ Employee ID to the examination hall. The Admit Card is valid if and ONLY if the candidate's photograph and signature images are clear and legible. The photograph on the Admit Card and that in the valid photo identity document should match the appearance of the candidate on the day of the exam.
Q: Can I bring soft copy of the admit card (in mobile phone/ tablet/ laptop) to enter the exam hall?
Ans: No. You cannot. You must bring the hard copy (printed in colour) of the GATE admit card to the exam centre along with at least one original (not photocopied/ scanned copy) and valid (not expired) Identity Document (ID), which was specified during the filling up of the online application.
Q: How long should I keep my GATE admit card 2025 with me?
Ans: You should keep your GATE 2025 admit card carefully till the admission process is over. It is advisable to keep a soft copy of GATE scores also as they are valid for three years. It may be required for counselling or during PSU recruitment.
Q: Will I be allowed to carry a physical calculator to the GATE exam hall?
Ans: No. You won't be allowed to carry it. You will be provided with a virtual scientific calculator which has to be used to answer the questions.
Q: When will the online or virtual calculator be available to practice? How to use the GATE 2025 virtual calculator?
Ans: The virtual calculator will be available for candidates to practice. It will be made available with the GATE 2025 mock test paper. With practice, you will learn how to use the virtual calculator for GATE.
Q: What happens if a physical calculator (even on an electronic watch) or a mobile phone (even in switched-off mode) is found in my possession in the exam hall?
Ans: You will be sent outside the exam hall as disqualified because such cases will naturally constitute a violation of the GATE 2025 code of conduct that leads to the disqualification of the candidature.
Q. Will the score card be required anywhere else?
Ans: Yes, the scorecard will be required for admissions and interviews. The PSUs involved in GATE 2025 will advertise for GATE qualified candidates along with this year's qualified candidates. Therefore, it is advised to download and keep a soft copy of the GATE 2025 scorecard as soon as you can access it.
Q: What are the details of the guidelines that will be followed for PwD candidates writing GATE 2025 examination?
Ans: GATE 2025 will follow the guidelines as mentioned in the government regulations for PwD and Dyslexic Candidates. Refer to the links given below:

Q: Will the facility of scribe and/ or compensatory (extra) time be given to all PwD candidates?
Ans: “The facility of a scribe is meant for only those PwD candidates who have physical limitations to write including that of speed. The scribe will be provided by the GATE authorities. The compensatory (extra) time would apply only to such candidates.” Please refer to ccdisabilities.nic.in/content/en/docs/CCDLetters.pdf (in particular to the fifth page of the document) for the clarification issued by CCPD on 18.03.2013.
Q: Will there be a “magnified question paper” for visually challenged PwD candidates?
Ans: YES. After reaching the exam hall, please contact the GATE Institute Representative through the invigilator in your exam hall and he/she will do the needful.
Q: Will the facility of scribe and/ or compensatory (extra) time be given to dyslexic candidates?
Ans: Yes, dyslexic candidates can avail of the services of the scribe, provided such candidates submit a proper dyslexic certificate issued by the competent authorities. The scribe will be provided by the GATE authorities. The compensatory (extra) time would apply only to such dyslexic candidates availing the scribe facility.
Q: Will there be any provision to keep my bag or other accessories like the mobile phone at the exam centre?
Ans: No, the authorities of GATE will not be making any such arrangements. You can carry things at your own risk.
Q: What items are not permitted inside the GATE examination venue?
Ans: You just have to carry your GATE admit card, identification proof and a pen inside the exam hall. Blank papers, clipboards, log tables, mobile phones, physical calculators, wristwatches, or any other electronic items are NOT permitted inside the exam hall. You can carry a simple wristwatch if you wish to. In case you carry any of the above-mentioned things in the exam hall, you will be debarred from the exam hall and your result will be withheld. Please note that your items will also be confiscated by the officials and will be returned after some months.
Q: Will I be allowed to leave the examination hall during the test?
Ans: No, you won't be. You will be allowed to move out of the examination hall only after the completion of the test.
Q: Will I be provided with any white paper for rough work and calculations during GATE exam?
Ans: You will be provided with a scribble pad which you can use to do calculations. Remember to return it to the invigilator after the exam.
Q: What if a candidate is found with a mobile phone, calculator or any other possession inside the examination hall?
Ans: In such a case, the candidate will be disqualified from the exam.
Q: How will I be able to check my GATE result 2025?
Ans: You will be able to check your GATE 2025 result by using your registration ID or enrolment number of GATE and date of birth.
Q: How to obtain the score card of GATE?
Ans: You will be able to download the scorecard of GATE through GOAPS during a certain period. You will have to use your enrollment ID or email address, GOAPS password and the captcha provided to view the scorecard. You are advised to download it and take a printout of the same.
Q: What if I am not able to access my GATE 2025 scorecard?
Ans: The GATE exam 2025 score card will be available for the qualifying candidates.
