Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. Where are you from? What makes you want to pursue an Engineering degree? What do you hope to achieve with your degree?

Harshavardhan M: I’m Harshavardhan M, a 6th semester student pursuing B.E. in Computer Science & Engineering at East Point College of Engineering & Technology, Bengaluru. Being raised in Bengaluru, a city synonymous with technology and innovation, I was naturally inclined towards tech from a young age. I’ve always enjoyed solving problems creatively, which led me to explore programming and participate in hackathons—many of which I’ve been fortunate to win. Engineering, for me, is not just a degree but a means to bring ideas to life.

Careers360: Presently which course are you pursuing and in which year are you? What has been your most rewarding academic experience thus far?

Harshavardhan M: I am currently in my 6th semester of B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering. Among my most rewarding academic experiences has been my active participation in national-level hackathons. These events have provided the perfect platform to apply theoretical knowledge in high-pressure, real-world scenarios. Working in teams, solving complex problems, and building functional prototypes under tight deadlines has sharpened my critical thinking and collaboration skills.

Careers360: Tell us about the course curriculum and specializations offered. Are the learnings more theory-based or practical-based?

Harshavardhan M: The Computer Science curriculum at East Point College is well-balanced between theoretical fundamentals and hands-on application. We start with core subjects like Data Structures, Algorithms, Operating Systems, and Computer Networks, gradually moving into specialized electives such as Artificial Intelligence, IoT, Cybersecurity, and Cloud Computing.

What sets the program apart is its emphasis on practical learning. Alongside classroom teaching, we have regular lab sessions, mini-projects, and real-time assignments. Our curriculum is supported by the Industry-Institute Integrated Learning Program (IIILP), which bridges the gap between academia and industry.

Careers360: Did you face any difficulty in the initial months when you joined the institute?

Harshavardhan M: Yes, like many students, I experienced some initial difficulty adjusting to the transition from school to college. The engineering curriculum felt intense at first, and managing a new environment along with academic expectations took time. However, East Point College provided a welcoming atmosphere with excellent faculty and student support systems.

Careers360: Since now classes are being held in online mode majorly. Share your experience of online classes with us. What are the challenges of distance learning amid the coronavirus pandemic?

Harshavardhan M: Transitioning to online learning during the pandemic was a major change. While the flexibility was a positive, there were definitely challenges—especially in the early stages. Internet connectivity issues, lack of face-to-face interaction, and increased screen time made it harder to stay focused.

Despite these challenges, the college adapted quickly. Recorded lectures, interactive tools, and online doubt sessions helped us stay engaged.

Careers360. Chalk out the differences you felt between online and offline classes. How stressful is distance learning for you during the COVID-19 pandemic? Which mode of learning do you prefer?

Harshavardhan M: The most significant difference between online and offline classes is the quality of interaction. Offline classes offer real-time discussions, instant doubt resolution, and stronger peer engagement.

Harshavardhan M: Distance learning also brought about screen fatigue and reduced motivation at times. Coordinating with peers for group work was tougher, and it was easy to feel isolated. Personally, I found offline learning much more stimulating and structured. While online tools were helpful, I definitely prefer offline mode for its better engagement, mentorship opportunities, and team dynamics.

Careers360: Were there any guest lectures/industry interactions held by the Institute during remote learning? Tell us about them.

Harshavardhan M: Yes, the institute ensured that learning continued beyond textbooks during remote learning. Several guest lectures and webinars were organized with professionals from top tech companies like Salesforce, UiPath, CISCO, Oracle, and AWS.

These sessions covered topics ranging from cloud computing and virtualization to automation and industry trends. Such interactions were highly beneficial, offering insights into the practical applications of our subjects and current industry demands. They also gave us the opportunity to ask questions and understand how to better prepare for roles in the tech industry.

Careers360: Does the institute provide opportunities to interact with industry stalwarts and people from the corporate world? Share your experience and learnings.

Harshavardhan M: Definitely. East Point College has a strong Industry-Institute Integrated Learning Program (IIILP) that connects students with mentors from reputed companies. We’ve had workshops, mentorship sessions, and project reviews conducted by industry professionals.

These sessions provide exposure to real-world tools and expectations. They help us understand workplace dynamics, software development cycles, and emerging technologies. Personally, such interactions helped me align my learning with industry requirements and even inspired some of my hackathon ideas.

Careers360: What initiatives are taken by the institute to make the classes and learning more engaging for all students?

Harshavardhan M: East Point College takes several creative steps to make learning interactive and engaging. Regular project expos, coding marathons, tech fests, innovation challenges, and hands-on workshops are organized to stimulate practical learning.

Faculty members often integrate real-world examples, live case studies, and interactive activities during lectures to maintain interest. We also have access to tech clubs, hackathons, and innovation centers that encourage us to go beyond the curriculum.

Careers360: What activities are offered in the institute? Are there any clubs, societies, etc., for the various extracurricular activities? Which ones have you taken up and are a part of?

Harshavardhan M: East Point offers a vibrant mix of extracurricular clubs and societies catering to diverse interests. There are technical clubs like coding and robotics, creative clubs for photography and literary pursuits, as well as cultural clubs for dance, music, and drama.

I’m actively involved in the innovation and coding club. We work on mini-projects, attend coding challenges, and even mentor juniors. These clubs have not only helped me sharpen my technical skills but also enhanced my leadership and teamwork capabilities.

Careers360: Tell us about the faculty-student ratio here and the teacher-student relationship in your understanding.

Harshavardhan M: The faculty-student ratio at East Point is well-balanced, ensuring that each student receives adequate attention and mentoring. Professors are approachable and willing to guide us beyond classroom hours.

What makes the relationship unique is the mentorship approach—teachers act not just as educators, but also as career advisors and personal mentors. They encourage us to take up research, projects, and certifications, and often share industry insights. This bond fosters a positive learning environment and helps us build confidence.

Careers360: Does your college help you get internships? Have you undergone an internship via college? Share your internship experience.

Harshavardhan M: Yes, the college actively supports students in securing internships through its placement cell and the Industry-Institute Integrated Learning Program. I had the opportunity to intern in Web Development at a Bengaluru-based startup, facilitated by the college.

Although it was an unpaid internship, it was incredibly enriching. I worked on UI/UX design, front-end development, and also interacted with clients. It gave me a clear understanding of software development cycles, team coordination, and real-world project execution, making it a valuable stepping stone in my career.

Careers360: Tell us about the placement drive. Do teachers/seniors help you prepare for placements?

Harshavardhan M: Our placement drive is structured and well-supported by the Training & Placement Cell. From aptitude test prep to group discussions and mock interviews, we are trained on all fronts.

Teachers provide technical guidance, while alumni and seniors share their experiences and conduct mock interviews. Resume-building sessions and career counselling are also part of the preparation. This 360-degree support system makes students feel confident and ready to face recruitment processes.

Careers360: Which all companies generally visit your campus for placements? Can you give an idea about the salary packages?

Harshavardhan M: Some of the companies which recruit our students are Infosys, Wipro, Capgemini, TCS, Mindtree, Deloitte, Huron, UST Global, HashedIn, and, Cognizant among others.

The average package offered is in the range of 4 to 6 LPA, with some high-performing students securing offers of up to 12 LPA from product-based or niche companies. The diversity of recruiters ensures opportunities across software development, automation, analytics, and consulting domains.

Careers360: What all facilities do you have on the campus? What do you like here the most which you feel is unique and differentiating?

Harshavardhan M: East Point College offers a well-equipped and vibrant campus environment. Facilities include advanced computer labs, digital classrooms, a central library, Idea Labs and research centers, sports grounds, and comfortable hostel accommodations.

One of the most unique aspects is the Industry-Institute Integrated Learning Program (IIILP), which offers real-time project exposure and direct mentorship from industry experts. This hands-on, industry-aligned approach sets East Point apart and helps us become job-ready even before graduation.

Careers360: What about the medical facilities? Can you avail requisite medical attention if needed in an emergency?

Harshavardhan M: Yes, the campus is home to the East Point Hospital, a fully functional multi-specialty medical facility with trained professionals and 24/7 emergency services.

Students have easy access to first aid, consultations, and routine check-ups. The presence of an on-campus hospital offers a great sense of security, especially during emergencies or health-related concerns.

Careers360: How do you balance your studies, projects, exams, and other activities?

Harshavardhan M: Time management is key to maintaining balance. I follow a weekly planner that allocates specific time slots for classes, coding practice, club activities, and personal downtime.

Prioritizing tasks based on deadlines and importance helps me stay organized. I also set small daily goals, which keep me productive without getting overwhelmed. Involving myself in activities I enjoy—like coding or brainstorming with peers—makes the workload feel less like a burden and more like a journey.

Careers360: How comfortable are your hostels and how about the cleanliness factor over there?

Harshavardhan M: The hostel facilities at East Point are clean, secure, and student-friendly. Rooms are spacious and regularly maintained, and the common areas like bathrooms and mess are cleaned daily.

We also have access to 24/7 security, power backup, and hot water. The mess offers hygienic meals, and there's a dedicated maintenance team to address issues. Overall, hostel life here is comfortable and fosters a strong sense of community and collaboration.

Careers360: What are the popular hangouts at the institute? What, according to you, are the most-visited places nearby?

Harshavardhan M: On campus, the canteen, open lawns, and the innovation center are the go-to places for students to relax, collaborate, or brainstorm project ideas. These spaces are lively and often serve as informal meeting hubs.

Outside campus, students frequently visit Phoenix Marketcity for shopping and entertainment. KR Puram and areas around Whitefield are also popular hangouts due to their proximity and variety of food options and cafés.

Careers360: How do you spend your leisure time at the campus?

Harshavardhan M: In my free time, I usually catch up with friends at the canteen, participate in club activities, or explore new tech trends and tools. I also enjoy playing outdoor games or unwinding with music.

Sometimes, I spend time working on mini-projects or discussing ideas with peers. It’s this mix of relaxation and creative engagement that keeps campus life enjoyable and meaningful.
