Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia on May 15, 2017, inaugurated the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi’s (IIIT-D) Summer Camp for school students. The month-long camp will include academic sessions and fun activities for students of selected schools in the vicinity.
Inaugurating the camp, Sisodia said, “It’s a wonderful opportunity and you need to make the most of it. It’s learning, not just for school students, but for students of IIIT Delhi as well. Both ought to benefit from the experience.” He encouraged students to ask questions, seek advice on career choices and personality development.
Sisodia, also the Education Minister of Delhi, lauded the efforts of IIIT-D which has set an example for other institutes and colleges of getting involved and paying back to the local community through this initiative.
The camp has been conceived as a group activity with each group comprising 30 members.
There will be educational sessions on all weekdays from 9 AM to 1 PM. In addition to the regular subjects like Mathematics, Computers, Science, General Knowledge and Communication, students at the camp will be taught soft skills such as handling problematic situations, social etiquette, table manners, personal hygiene and cleanliness as part of personality development. There will also be other activities such as Theatre, Dance, Music, Arts and Craft, plus a weekly movie screen with refreshments.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Pankaj Jalote, Director IIITD, said, “What students will learn at this summer camp, no school or text book can provide. The exposure the students are going to get here is going to be truly invaluable.”
The participating schools are Govt. Boys’ Senior Secondary School, Harkesh Nagar; Govt. Girls’ Senior Secondary School, Harkesh Nagar; Govt. Boys’ Senior Secondary School, Kalkaji; RPVV, Lajpat Nagar; Veer Savarkar Sarvodya Kanya Vidyalaya, No. 1, Kalkaji.
