Careers360: Please describe your life at VIT in few sentences. What do you like the most?
Siddharth: I really don’t regret my step of choosing VIT as a second option. It was genuine and apt for me. I would rather pay load onto the technical aspect of the college as I myself am a little shifted or bent towards exploring the technical part of the college.
Infrastructure: VIT boasts of its well-planned and comprehensive infrastructure provided for both- students and faculty. It is totally a ‘Kingdom of Dreams’ for a person like me, who in stances of disruptive psychology, can easily manage to overcome that by just walking around the lush green campus.
Technical Facilities: Upto my knowledge and as far as I am involved into the projects and researches, I rarely find any difficulty in the type of experiment, which I personally want to do or the research work I want to take up as my electives.
Talking about the Curriculum, VIT offers FFCS that is Fully Flexible Credit System (i.e. we can chose our time of classes, our faculty, our academic building, and lots more.) that is not offered in any of the colleges in India apart from VIT. It’s purely an American system for which VIT utilizes international accreditation as an important means to benchmark its programs against the best in the world and assure that they meet the quality standards established by global professional organizations.
Last but not the least, I wouldn’t forget the magnificent Library.
The most important thing I like is that I feel very free when choosing my schedule for the semester as all the rope-ends are with me. I have freedom in choosing my subjects, my teachers, my building, my slots, etc. and secondly the discipline. Consequently, these are enough for me, atleast to become a professional in anything I aspire.
Careers360: How do you divide your weekly time between your studies and other activities?
Siddharth: As I mentioned before that VIT follows the FFCS and for this, I would reveal up my schedule for the week as:
This is a computer-generated timetable, which I registered and follow as per my choice. Saturdays and Sundays are holidays. For the all project and researches I am involved into are done in the free slots during my day. Academics is well-handled after the classes and on the weekends of-course.
There is a minimum attendance criterion of 75% of which we have to adhere to. But the 9 pointers are abstained from this criteria and so as per my wish, I prefer devoting that time for other activities.
Careers360: How do you get to know about the latest happenings in the college? Is there any in-house magazine or something else for that?
Siddharth: We have our own vit-gmail account. Any news whether achievements by students, any guest lecture, any important circular and all sorts of official notices are dealt-with at this place. This gmail account has the database of the VIT’s faculty, so that we can easily contact them at any time.
Careers360: Which are the various clubs and societies in college? Are you part of any? Do you think they are beneficial for the students?
Siddharth: There are many clubs, chapters, self-established organizations. Some of them are:
ASME (AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERS)
ASCE (AMERICA SOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS)
IEEE PES(POWER AND ENERGY SOCIETY)
IEEE EMBS(ENGINEERING IN MEDICINE AND BIOLOGY SOCIETY)
E2PC(ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION CLUB)
SMCE(SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL AND CIVIL ENGINEERS)
CSI(COMPUTER SOCIETY OF INDIA)
TEC(THE ELECTRONICS CLUB)
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS CLUB
INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF AUTOMATION
SOCIETY OF AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERS
INSTRUMENT SOCIETY OF INDIA
INDIAN SOCIETY FOR TECHNICAL EDUCATION
SEDS VIT(AMATEUR ASTRONOMY CLUB)
ISCHE(DIAN SOCIETY FOR CHEMICAL ENGINEERS)
ACM(ASSOCIATION OF COMPUTER MACHINERY)
SANSHRAY (NGO), and many more
I’m the part of ROBOVITICS (the official robotics club of VIT University) as the core committee member as well as OIKOS VELLORE (NGO) and KAWACH.
Being a part of such clubs not only advances your technical skills in that field but also you get to learn a lot of management skills. You are benefited by the knowledge the seniors have with them and the most important of all is the contacts. You get to know more and more people in your college, which not only enlarges your social blanket but you get a diverse kind of exposure when you sit and talk among the masters out there.
Careers360: Are there any regular events or functions that take place in your campus? How is the participation of students on such occasions?
Siddharth: Yes, the various societies, student chapters and clubs apart from what VIT does, hold technical as well as non-technical events within the campus. The advertising is done through class announcements, hoardings, posters, online advertisements, vitgmail. Interested students take part in such events. The events are almost on regular basis and the registrations may or may not be free.
Careers360: What are the best hangout spots at VIT? What, according to you, are the most-visited places nearby the campus?
Siddharth: The best hangout spots in VIT University are the food court where I myself love to chill. We have the wood-stocks, VIT Lake. The most visited places nearby include:
The hundred’s heritage
Careers360: What is your opinion about the infrastructure of the institution? How are faculty members, laboratories, mess, and everything else?
Siddharth: Infrastructure is far more important than anything an institution should have. VIT has a strong hold in the infrastructural facilities it provides. I would like to mention some important centers out here, which are one of a kind:
VIT-Technology Business Incubator, VIT
10kW Solar Dish Stirling Power system
CO2 research center, and many moreâ¦
The food is good here. We have five mess in total allotted to each block.
North Indian Veg.
North Indian Non Veg.
South Indian Veg.
South Indian Non Veg.
One can opt from any one of these.
The library at VIT is one of a kind. It is a 7 floor, centrally air-conditioned and spacious place to study with loads with material packed into a single sky-scraper.
Careers360: How do you like to spend your leisure time?
Siddharth: My schedule is totally jam-packed but still I find time to hang-out with friends on weekends and during free-slots of mine.
Careers360: What else fun-thing makes your campus unique and interesting?
Siddharth: VIT is unique because of following-
The student-proctor scheme
The freedom of doing your graduation through its well-planned curriculum
Co-curricular and extracurricular activities are planned and executed through a number of associations, clubs, societies and students' chapters of professional bodies. They are owned and managed by representatives of students and are monitored by the faculty in-charge.
