BIT Durg – CSE with 89 Percentile (JEE Main 2025)

General Category: CSE unlikely (cutoff ~95%ile).

State Quota / EWS / OBC: Possible in later rounds.

Management Quota: Yes, CSE possible (direct admission with higher fees).

Tip: Apply through state counselling & keep backup private colleges

hi,

decent colleges — especially in private or semi-government institutions, depending on your state and category.

If you're from Karnataka and this is your KCET rank, then colleges like Acharya Institute of Technology , New Horizon College of Engineering , JSSATE Bengaluru , and BMSIT might be possible in later rounds. Government colleges might be tough for CS at this rank, but you could still get other branches and try for branch change later.

If you're from another state, let me know — because cutoffs change from state to state and quota to quota. Also, if you're from a reserved category (SC/ST/OBC), your chances improve significantly.

hi,

With a rank of 173,000 in JEE Main, getting admission to Computer Science Engineering (CSE) in top government colleges like NITs or IIITs will be very tough. Usually, CSE seats in these colleges close much earlier, with ranks going up to around 30,000 or 40,000. But don’t worry, you can still look at private engineering colleges, many of which offer CSE and have more flexible admission criteria.

You can also check state-level colleges and counselling where cutoffs might be lower. If you’re open to related branches like Information Technology, Electronics, or Electrical Engineering, you might find more options. It’s important to participate in all counselling rounds because sometimes seats remain vacant in later rounds, giving you a chance.

With a KCET rank of 46,000, your cousin has a fair chance of getting admission into AI & ML or Computer Science (CS) in some good private colleges in Bangalore under the government quota. Top colleges like RV, BMS, and MSRIT may be tough, but colleges like Acharya Institute, East West Institute, AMC Engineering, or T John College could be possible. It’s a good idea to apply to multiple colleges and check cutoffs in each counselling round for better chances.

Your JEE Mains score of 94.32 percentile is good and can be considered by AIEMS (All India Engineering Management System) for admission, especially if you are in the CS (Computer Science) group. AIEMS accepts JEE scores for many engineering colleges. However, admission depends on the specific college’s cut-off and seat availability. It’s best to check the AIEMS official website or contact them directly to know if your score fits their CS program and what the next steps are for applying.

Hello Ansh,

Whether you can get admission in the Computer Science (CS) or Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) branch depends on several key factors:

  • Entrance Exam Rank/Score : Your performance in entrance exams like JEE Mains, JEE Advanced, state-level exams (like KCET, AP EAMCET, TS EAMCET), or university-specific exams plays a major role. A high rank increases your chances for CS or ECE.

  • Category and Reservation : SC, ST, OBC, EWS, or other reserved categories may have lower cut-off ranks for CS and ECE branches.

  • College Preference : Top colleges like IITs, NITs, IIITs, and top private universities have higher cut-offs for CS and ECE. Mid-tier or private colleges may offer more flexibility with lower ranks.

  • State Quota vs. All India Quota : Home state students often have a better chance under the state quota.

  • Gender-Based Quotas : Some institutions offer female-only seats or relaxed cut-offs for girls.

If you mention your entrance exam name, rank or percentile, category, and state, I can give a more specific answer.

I hope this answer helps you. If you have more queries, feel free to share your questions with us, and we will be happy to assist you.

Thank you, and I wish you all the best in your bright future.

Dear Candidate ,
With a KCET 2025 rank of 137,614 getting a Computer Science ( CSE ) seat in a government engineering college in Karnataka in quite difficult, as the closing ranks for CSE in these colleges are generally much lower - mostly under 85,000 . However you can still explore other branches like Mechanical , Civil or Electrical Engineering , which may have higher closing ranks and  thus a better chance . Additionally , consider applying to private colleges where CSE seats might still be available at your rank , or explore options under the management quota . Make sure to participate in all rounds of counseling, including the extended and spot rounds .

Deciding whether to pursue a BCA or a B.Sc Computer Science (CS) through distance learning is best depends on your individual goals and circumstances . A BCA focuses more on computer applications, while a B.Sc Computer Science (CS) places more emphasis on theoretical knowledge and research.

BCA:

Focus:

Computer Applications and Programming.

Career Path:

Software Development, Web Development, IT Support, Network Administration.

Benefit:

Job opportunities are wide, as BCA graduates are immediately industry ready.

negative:

If your goal is advanced research or AI and data analytics, then BSc (CS) may be a better choice.

B.Sc.(CS)(Distance Education):

Focus:

Theoretical knowledge of computer science, such as algorithms, data structures, and systems architecture.

Career Path:

Researchers, data scientists, AI specialists, systems engineers.

Benefit:

Distance learning can be more affordable and allows you to tailor your studies to your situation.

negative:

It may take more time and effort to earn a degree.

Which one is better for you?

If you want to get immediate job opportunities and practical computer skills, then BCA may be a better option.

If you are interested in theoretical knowledge and research or want to pursue higher education, then B.Sc.(CS) may be more suitable.

If you want flexibility and financial independence in your career, then BSc (CS) through distance learning may be a good option.

conclusion:

When deciding which course is right for you, take into account your career goals, personal interests and financial situation. Both BCA and BSc (CS) provide a good foundation for a successful career in their respective fields.

For students with a rank around 1 lakh and under the SC category, many state universities and government colleges offer courses in Data Science, Computer Science, AI, or Cybersecurity. Consider state-level counseling like KCET, UPSEE, or WBJEE, where reserved seats help SC students get admission. Also, look for newer private universities with good scholarships. It’s best to check specific state counseling websites for available colleges and cutoff trends to find a suitable option that fits your rank and category.

Hello,

It is unlikely to get core CSE or AI in prestigious government or Tier-1 colleges with a KCET 2025 rank of 100,000. You can still target respectable private universities that offer CSE or AI-related programs, though. Think about educational institutions such as Bangalore's Acharya Institute of Technology, AMC Engineering College, East West Institute of Technology, Gopalan College of Engineering, and HKBK College. Investigate related fields like data science, AI & ML, and information science as well. Engage in active counselling and maintain a variety of options. Even if they are not highly ranked, pay attention to universities with strong faculty, placement assistance, and infrastructure.
All the best.
