The board's goal is to assess a student's knowledge of the subject matter, not the language in which they write the answers.

If you have been given a compartment in Mathematics but an overall percentage of 63, you need to first clear the compartment exam. Then, you can attempt the improvement exam to raise your marks. But where admissions into NITs and IITs are concerned, the eligibility criteria are strict.

For JEE Mains,  you must fulfill the general eligibility requirements, including having cleared your Class 12 (or equivalent) examination with at least 75% marks or falling within the top 20 percentile of your board (for general category). For reserved categories, the percentage requirement is waived. If you clear your compartment exam and score better marks, make sure you are eligible before applying for JEE Mains.
2. For JEE Advanced, you have to qualify JEE Mains and satisfy the institute's eligibility criteria to become eligible for JEE Advanced. You must have cleared your Class 12 (or equivalent) exam, and any increase in marks after the compartment exam will be taken into account during the time of selection.

Finally, you can still appear for JEE Mains and Advanced after clearing the improvement and compartment exam, subject to your eligibility based on the marks and other criteria.
