What to be filled in year if first jee advance attempt? Is it the first year when you appeared in JEE Main or it when you are eligible for JEE advance?

Mayumi DAS 24th Apr, 2025

You should fill the year when you were first eligible to appear for JEE Advanced, not necessarily when you actually appeared.

For Example:

  • If you passed your Class 12 in 2024 , then you were first eligible for JEE Advanced in 2024 , even if you didn’t appear for it that year.

  • So, in the form, you should fill 2024 as your first attempt year , even if your first real attempt is in 2025 .

Why?

Because JEE Advanced eligibility is strictly tied to the year you passed Class 12 . Candidates are allowed to attempt JEE Advanced only in the year of passing 12th and the immediate next year .

So even if you're attempting JEE Advanced for the first time in 2025 , if you passed 12th in 2024, your first eligible year is 2024 , and that is what should be entered .

can i change oci to indian citizenship in jee advance after appearing for jee mains

Mayumi DAS 24th Apr, 2025

Yes, you can change your status from OCI to Indian citizenship for JEE Advanced , but it depends on when your Indian citizenship is granted and whether the change is officially updated before registering for JEE Advanced.

1. Citizenship Change Timeline Matters

  • If you receive Indian citizenship before JEE Advanced registration begins , you can register as an Indian national .

You must provide a valid Indian passport or citizenship certificate as proof.
2. Update in JEE Records

After appearing in JEE Main as an OCI, if you receive Indian citizenship:

  • You need to contact JEE Advanced authorities during the registration period and request a correction .

  • You may be asked to submit supporting documents (citizenship proof).

3. Category & Eligibility

  • If you're now an Indian citizen, you’ll be treated as a general or reserved category candidate based on your actual category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS).

  • OCI candidates are treated under General (GEN) category unless citizenship is updated.

4. What You Need to Do:

  • Get Indian citizenship officially before JEE Advanced registration.

  • Keep a soft copy and hard copy of the citizenship proof ready.

  • During JEE Advanced registration, use the updated citizenship status and upload the necessary documents.

  • If the form doesn’t allow change, contact JEE Advanced helpdesk/email immediately with proof.

i have filled my both jan and april jee mains form in general category. can i change general to ews category in jee advanced to get ews benefits for college admission

kumardurgesh1802 22nd Apr, 2025

Hello Diksha,

No, you cannot change your category from General to EWS for JEE Advanced if you have already filled your form as General in both the January and April JEE Mains. The category you select during your JEE Mains registration is considered for JEE Advanced as well.

However, if you are eligible for the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) category, you can apply for a correction in your JEE Mains application during the correction window (if the window is still open). If the correction window is closed, you will not be able to change your category.

Make sure that the EWS certificate is valid and that you meet all the eligibility criteria for EWS benefits. If your category remains General, you will not be able to avail of EWS reservations for college admissions.

What should we do to write the jee advanced eaxam

SUKRITI GUPTA 23rd Apr, 2025

First and foremost, thoroughly understand the exam pattern and syllabus. JEE Advanced has two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2, and both are compulsory. Each paper has three sections: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The types of questions can vary, including multiple-choice with single or multiple correct answers, numerical answer type questions where you have to enter a numerical value, and sometimes matching-type or paragraph-based questions. Knowing the marking scheme, including negative marking for some question types, is crucial for effective test-taking. The syllabus goes deeper into concepts than JEE Main, so a strong foundation is key.

Next, focus on in-depth conceptual understanding. Rote learning won't get you far in JEE Advanced. You need to truly grasp the 'why' behind the concepts and be able to apply them in various problem-solving scenarios. This involves going beyond the surface level of topics and understanding the underlying principles and their interconnections. Consistent practice with a variety of challenging problems is essential to solidify these concepts.

Develop strong problem-solving skills. JEE Advanced is all about application. You need to be comfortable tackling complex problems that might involve combining concepts from different chapters. Regular practice with problems of varying difficulty levels, including those from previous years' JEE Advanced papers, is vital. Focus on understanding the thought process behind solving each problem, not just memorizing steps.

Master time management. The exam is lengthy and requires you to solve a significant number of challenging questions within a limited time. Practicing with timed mock tests that simulate the actual exam environment is crucial to develop speed and accuracy. Learn to prioritize questions and manage your time effectively across subjects and different types of questions.

Regularly revise and analyze your performance. Consistent revision of concepts and formulas is necessary to retain what you've learned. After every practice session or mock test, take time to analyze your mistakes. Identify your weak areas and work specifically on improving those. Understanding why you went wrong is as important as getting the correct answers.

Maintain a disciplined and consistent study schedule. JEE Advanced preparation requires sustained effort over a significant period. Create a realistic and detailed study plan, allocating sufficient time to each subject and revision. Stick to your schedule as much as possible and avoid procrastination.

Finally, stay calm and maintain a positive attitude. The preparation for JEE Advanced can be stressful, but it's important to take care of your physical and mental well-being. Get enough sleep, eat healthy, and take breaks to avoid burnout. Believe in your hard work and stay motivated throughout the process.

I hope this helps.

I am female obc candidate...I got 74 percentile in jee mains 2025...is I am eligible for jee advanced

Prachi Kumari 19th Apr, 2025

Hello,

For JEE Advanced, the eligibility depends on your JEE Main percentile and category rank. Generally, candidates need to be in the top 2.5 lakh candidates (across all categories) to qualify for JEE Advanced. The exact cutoff for OBC (Other Backward Classes) candidates will depend on the overall rank and the category-specific cutoff.

Since you scored 74 percentile in JEE Mains, it’s unlikely that you'll qualify for JEE Advanced, as the cutoff is typically much higher.

Hope it helps !

My son is OCI. Wanted to know if you have any information and collage predictions based on Jee or Jee advance

kumardurgesh1802 19th Apr, 2025

Hello there,

For your OCI son's IIT/NIT admissions based on JEE:

  • JEE Main: He's treated as General Category . Use standard JEE Main college predictors with his rank.

  • JEE Advanced:
    • OCI issued after March 4, 2021: Considered foreign national , applies directly to JEE Advanced for supernumerary seats (up to 10%). Prediction is harder due to limited cutoff data.

    • OCI issued before March 4, 2021: Generally treated as General Category , needs JEE Main rank. Use standard JEE Advanced college predictors.

  • No Category Reservations (except OPEN-PwD).
  • Use online JEE college predictor tools after results with his General Category rank.

Key: Check official JEE websites for the latest OCI rules. Prediction for the foreign national route in JEE Advanced is less precise.

My jee mains 2025 percentile is 43 and my category is st then I am eligible for fill the form of jee advance exam or not

kumardurgesh1802 19th Apr, 2025

Hello there,

You are likely eligible to fill the form for the JEE Advanced 2025 exam with a 43 percentile in JEE Main 2025 if you belong to the ST category.

Here's why:

  • JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for JEE Advanced, you need to be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates in JEE Main (including all categories). Within this, there are category-wise percentage allocations.

  • Category-wise Cutoffs: The National Testing Agency (NTA) releases the category-wise cutoffs for JEE Main, which determine who is eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. These cutoffs are usually a percentile score.

  • Previous Year Trends: Looking at the previous year's (2024) JEE Main cutoff for JEE Advanced, the qualifying percentile for the ST category was 46.6975840 . In 2023, it was 37.2348772 , and in 2022, it was 26.7771328 .

Given these past trends, a percentile of 43 in the ST category is likely to be above the qualifying percentile for JEE Advanced 2025.

Therefore, you should be prepared to fill the JEE Advanced 2025 application form once the results and official cutoffs are announced, as your percentile in the ST category is likely to meet the eligibility criteria. Keep an eye on the official JEE Advanced website for the application dates and further information.
